Good little rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I built both the VEC-1280K and the VEC-1240K QRP x-mitters. Both kits were very simple to build in a very short time and performed well.

To sum it up, I believe it is a very good kit for anyone to build. I have made contacts with both rigs on 80 and 40 meters. The capicitor for tuning left or right of primary crystal frequency works well. If you need to tweek a little "the freq" to bring up or down more, tinker with some capacitors with the VXO to adjust accordingly.

Output on both rigs is a good solid 1.25 watts. Key note is properly winding of toriod and that will make the difference. On most nights on 80 or 40 meters when band conditions are good, 559-579 rpt's are relatively common. I will try building a 40 meter QRP transciever next as a project.
As with any kit, build it and test and run it, and then experiment a little. This is a good way to learn and note positives and negatives of your testing. Lots of fun and who needs a kilowatt to make contacts. Just have a solar panel or battery and a good cut tuned portable dipole to the frequency with no tuner and get the flea power out as much as you can with min loss.
