sloppy assembly Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Fortunately, I didn't pay much, even including the shipping for my PR-15. It was listed as "works great" and upon powering up, it appeared that way. Then the sparks started and the smoke appeared. This unit appeared to have never been used at all and once I opened it, I found loose hardware, especially the power studs extending through the chassis. Great voltage but no current capacity until I checked and remounted the output transistors and resoldered the output leads of the power transformer. Good quality components inside but poorly assembled. Mine works fine now but I'd never buy another unless I could see it working first, even a brand new one!!

Easy to repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
.
Sixteen plus years with the PR20 and finally broke down. replaced the 2N3771 NPN transistors and it is up and running. Ran the repair for 24 hours and during the contest yesterday and today and it is running like new. Can't beat this for the many good years of service and guess I will get another 16 plus years out of this PR20.

A no hash power supply. Paid $60.00 brand new, I believe I have had my moneys worth. $3.75 a year for the past 16 years is something to boast about.

Have been using my PR20 for over 15 years. I keep it looking good and it still works as new.

Ran a Beacon test 24/7 on it for one solid week at full current drawn and yes it got hot, but never failed.

No complaints and well satisfied.

Not bad! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought a 60 amp supplier back in 1995 and had it for a year. I ended up selling it to a guy that needed it more than I did. When i had it it seemed to work well. I never ran it to its full potential so i never had the heat issue.
granted they are not quite up to par with a Astron but they are good for what they are. A basic power supply for basic needs..

Bad, bad, bad! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have a PR-12 that quit after a few years. I just emailed Tripp Lite asking for a schematic so I can repair it and was told they don't supply schematics but would be happy to exchange my unit for a new one - at a price. I'll never buy another Tripp Lite product!

No Line Filter! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have a Trip-Lite PR40A powering my FT-840. A 40 Amp supply for a 100 Watt rig is overkill but that way I can use it with other rigs at the same time. Unfortunately my FT-840 generates noise that is impressed on the DC input. The Trip-Lite HAD no filtering for EMI on either the output side or the AC side.

The Noise from the FT-840 ran right through the supply and to the house wiring. In turn I picked it up and had a high back ground noise. Adding filtering on the Power Supply eliminated the noise from the FT-840. Before adding the filtering I monitored the noise with my SP-600 and even with no antenna on the FT-840 but just with it powered up the noise was present. Adding the filtering. 0.01 caps to chassis on each AC line and the same across the output cleaned up my problem.

Power supplies used in a RF environment should have some filtering on the AC line.

No good at all. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I had one of those supplies, it let go--after looking at it and a telephone call to them, I repaired it and sold it. Tech support is non-existant. Their reply to tech inquiries: "We will sell you a new one." I have found this is true with ALL of their products, not just their power supplies. UPS units, other emergency electronics units--anything they sell.

I will not buy another Tripp-Lite product, even if it is the only thing available for the purpose I need it for--I'll go without. Tripp-Lite is just another greedy money sucking company that doesn't give a damn.

I own a PR-60, 60 amp power supply. Other then generating its "own" heat, it powers my shack just fine.

Piece of Merd,Crap etc Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Mine worked fine for 4 years.until I added more power leads to the binding screws. When I tighened the nut I heard a crack. Plastic Insulators broke so I had to remove the regulator board and replace the insulators. Worked fine for a few months then I had a voltage regulation problem so I took it to another ham who dicovered the problem,, The regulator board. Since the binding screws are also attached directly to the regulator board they would loosen up from adding or deleting other power wires. When the screws loosen up arcing occurs between the screws and the board. I caleed the Tripplite people for a new reg board they told me that they did NOT supply any new parts but I could buy a new PR 40 from them. I asked the why would I do that and have the same problems later! I told them that I would NOT recommend any of their power supplies to any one!!!!! Did repair it, Gave it away!!
