BUYER BEWARE Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I purchased a Vantage Pro late last year. After just six weeks of use, the unit failed. When I contacted Davis, they informed me: "Oh, yea, we know about that. A number of units with bad circuit boards went out in Nov./Dec." Okay, so they already knew they had sold bad units and didn't contact customers. (Strike One!) When I asked them to replace the defectve part, they said "Sure, but we will need to charge you $177.50, just to insure you will send the defective part back." Okay, said I, send it on. (Strike Two!...Why bill me for your defective part under warranty???) Finally, the unit was already mounted on a tower that requires someone else to climb, take the unit off the tower, bring it down so I can disassemble it, put in the new board, etc. etc. So, I started getting nastygrams from Davis. Send back the defective board or pay up. So, I called and explained the situation. Okay, we understand, they say. Time passes. Today I get a collection notice. Call the collection company, explain (again!!), they call Davis, Davis says "Tough." Call the Davis executive offices. Get shuffled to a polite secretary. She checks into it. Calls back. Three options: return the new unit, return the defective unit, or pay up. I bring up the possibility of poor customer service and their warranty responsibility. Tough, she says. So, I ask to return the whole darn thing. (Strike Three!!! And they're out!!!) Before anyone purchases a Davis unit, I strongly advise you to look at PEET (ham friendly) or another provider. Davis may make an OK unit, but if they aren't willing to back-up their warranty in a friendly, and customer-helpful way, you are on your own. BUYER BEWARE

Great Product ! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased my Vantage Pro Weatherstation when they were first introduced. I must have waited about 8 months before the unit finally shipped, but was well worth the wait. I was hesitant about purchasing the wireless unit, but was glad I did. I have since added a second console in my living room, so I can monitor weather conditions from different parts of the house.

Recently I added the WeatherLink Software V5.2, and I now upload my information to my website so everyone can benefit in my area. This information has been very useful for ARES and Skywarn activity in my area.

You can visit my Weather Website at:

Great Product....Like the Pros Use...Fantastic! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
A Five PLUS PLUS!!!
Purchased unit @ Dayton this year. 2002
Great Sales and send unit per the Date I gave them.
Very sophisticated and well designed system.
The indoor base unit uses 900 mhz to receive data from the outside unit. The outside unit is powered by a lithium battery that is automatically recharged by a solar panel. Easy to set up and use.
No problems with RF or RFI.
Unit is on the Wall in my Shack/Office!
Outstanding unit.
I recommend it highly.

Nice product with very little to be critical of. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I studied all the weather stations that I could find on the internet before deciding on the Davis Vantage Pro wireless system. I chose the wireless system because I just didn't want to deal with running any more wires (being a ham means I have alot of wires around). I chose the fan-aspirated sensor unit to insure the best readings possible. Price was not an overbearing issue but value and features were very important. The Texas Weather Instruments stuff looks great and I have heard it is Cadillac equipment but I just wasn't willing to spend several thousand for one of their systems. The Davis system was very well packed and documentation is good. Set up of the outdoor sensor unit was more work than I anticipated but nothing insurmountable. You have to dissassemble the unit to install the batteries for the transmitter and the fan aspirator. The indoor component, called the console, is attractive and feels like a quality product. The LCD display on the console gives you a tremendous amount of information. The only two critical comments I have about the console are 1) the back-lighting is not the greatest, and 2) some of the secondary text is too small for my old eyes. The console has an abundant supply of controls and is easy to learn and intuitive to use. The system worked great from the time I supplied power. I believe all the readings are very accurate and I really like the graphing function. I noticed that the console would occasionally loose contact with the outdoor transmitter unit. This depended on the location of the console. In my opinion the wireless system doesn't have the range that the manufacturer claims but I solved that problem by purchasing a repeater ($125). I bought the Weather Link software two weeks after receiving the station and then the fun really began. It comes with web page templates which enable you to put your weather data on the web. The more I fiddled with this, the more interested I became. I now have obtained a domain name and have put my weather station on the web. My URL is www.kk4a.com if you are interested. This is still a work in progress and I take it down alot to work on it. So if you try the URL and it isn't up-to-date, please know that I am working on it and I am a real novice when it comes to web page design. Oh, I almost forgot.....the unit operates on 916 MHz and a 900 MHz cordless phone will interfer the console's ability to receive.
