Excellent contest rig! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I am not fortunate enough to own one, but I did have the privilige to use one in the recent ARRL SSB DX contest on 80 meters. All I can say is - WOW! The receiver is very selective. I used it both nights of the contest. On the last night of the contest, I was on it for about 9 hours straight and there was no fatigue or wrong out feeling from the receiver. It is an incredible radio! |

The best HF rig on earth |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I have had my 1000D for over a year. I decided that it was the one to have after hearing what the contestors were saying I decided to jump on the band wagon. The botom line is I love this radio. I don't think there is a better receiver anywhere. Everything is intuitive and easy to use. The 200 watts is a big selling point. If you need DSP hang a Timewave DSP-599zx outboard and WHALA! You will be in business. The only negative is that I can't run it from DC. Ohh well... After Y2K generators are cheap and plentiful.

Classic Transceiver |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
Bought the FT-1000D new in 1993 and have used it continously. Unit back to Yaesu twice, once because I plugged something into the wrong jack and shut down the audio. Second time for no fan operation which occured immediately after the audio fix. But Yaesu said they couldn't find a problem - so did all the updates while they had the unit open for no additional charge - and sent it back. Either Yaesu fixed it and didn't want to admit they screwed it up first time around or possibly UPS fixed the unit with one or more drops as the blower problem never reoccurred. I've bought several rigs since the FT-1000D, but will keep the 1000 as it is a Classic. |

Best receiver I've ever used. Wonderfully simple to operate. Superior to anything else I've tried including more recent offerings by Yaesu. The only down side is it's considerable heft. |

Excellent |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I have owned this radio for almost 10 years, and in that time, I have owned many other radios as back-ups, or possible replacements, but I always come back to the D. (I have owned and side by side compared this radio to an Omni VI, Omni VI+, 756PRO, 765, 1000MP, 1000 Mark V, 746 and 746PRO.) For starters, this radio has an excellent receiver. I can hear everything I could hear on any of the other radios I have owned without having to fiddle around with a bunch of bells and whistles. The absolute best AGC circuit that I have come across...no pumping at all. A quiet, none fatiguing radio to listen to, even if for hours on at a time. A seperate rx antenna with no bleed through. APF on cw is excellent. Stereo dual receive is a tremendous help when working split, much better than simple dual receive. The transmitter delivers clean, clear, crisp audio and a clean cw note. (I use a MD-1 Mic, with a Heil HC-5 element.) Big, solid construction that looks and works as good as it did 10 years ago. No radio is the "perfect" radio, but in over 10 years of ownership, and comparisons, this is as close as it gets. Every feature on this radio works as advertised, time after time. |

Simply Outstanding |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I've owned just about all the major rigs, Kenwoods TS130,TS-930SAT,TS-850S, TS-870S, (Currently TS-950SDX, TS-570SD, & TS-50), ICOMs 775DSP, 736, 781,756 (Currently 706), and Yaesu's FT-890, FT-990, (currently FT-1000D and FT-1000MP.)
I have to say that the FT-1000D is better than the FT-1000MP. Better receiver, better split functions, simply an outstanding radio. The FT-1000MP has better ergonomics, and the DSP is OK but not as good as the FT-1000D with or without the external 599ZX DSP unit. Both are outstanding CW rigs, but the MP is a little clicky on Rx.
OTOH, the TS-950SDX is the best SSB rig. Great sound and the audio is wonderful. I'm primarily a CW guy so I don't use the TS-950SDX much except to use the SM-230 to scope band opening.
ICOM isn't in the same league as far as CW operation. The 775DSP is a great SSB rig however.
I like my 1000D so much I'm not even tempted to try the Mark V. Many like the Mark V, but quite few have had problems with them. |

FANTASTIC ! There just is no better. |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
Well where do i start this review?
Well i guess i should start by saying that in my time (only 34Yrs old but licenced 16 years)I have used and owned many HF radios i.e.
FT101/FT200/TS570DG/TS870s/TS930s/TS950SDX/FT1000MP/FT1000MP Mark V/TS940s/Icom 751/Icom 756Pro/Icom 775DSP and finally the YAESU FT1000(D).(list not in order)...
The FT1000(D).... i just keep going back time and time again,.... i have just recently purchased one for $1500 and although the chasis needs some work doing to it the receiver is extremely HOT! amazing in fact and the minute i turned the radio on and operated it i knew why i just had to buy it! this one is now for keeps...! - TRULY IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN.....Awe inspiring... |

Fine Work of Art |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
Hi:
After 7 years of use this fine rig still performs without a flaw. This rig still stands out second to none. Considering that the FT-1000D is of an older design, it still rates right at the top in terms of performance. The fan/blower is a little on the noisy side when it comes on which I have found is not too often, but in any case not a real problem and can't be hear on the air and also doesnt create a problem even when the AF Gain is turned down. This radio is definately as the brochure states "Best of the Best".

The Ultimate Design |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
Well I have to admit to being a fan of Kenwood equipment, and buying an
FT-1000D felt like an act of betrayal, but using the rig confirmed just what a wise decision it actually was. This is the way ALL rigs should be made, and I think Yaesu shot themselves in the foot with the MP instead of further evolving this masterpiece of design. The rig is like ALL others, imperfect, but the overall quality of its performance is beyond excellent, the build quality superb, the user friendly features are on a different level, and it is an absolute crying shame that Yaesu did not have the wisdom and vision to continue with this design instead of taking the retrograde step of producing the MP and son of MP, both of which are fine rigs in their own right, but simply not in the same class as the illustrious FT-1000D.
In design terms, this rig is the classical champion,so far above ANYTHING that has come before OR since. I would recommend this rig to anyone, if you come across a good example don't hesitate to purchase, it is, "Simply The Best" . |

Incomparable |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
As said before, simply the best of the best----incomparable......the competition just offers extra bells and whistles, but no other transceiver except the Mark V even approaches the overall performance of the 1000D. |
