Couldn't Have Been Better Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
So I was working my trusty FT-897D and all of a sudden the receive audio became jarbled - two weeks before Field Day (of course)!

I did some preliminary tests and determined it wasn't the speaker and with SMT components it would have to go somewhere for repair. Even though it was out of warranty I decided to send it to Yaesu. I sent it out with a letter explaining the problem and if at all possible to get it back to me before Field Day (hey, it never hurts to ask, right?).

After they received the radio (via overnight service), they called to get my credit card information. They called a couple days later stating they found the problem (ceramic filters) and had it all repaired. I asked if they could overnight it back so I could have it for Field Day, as my only other HF rig at the time was my FT-817. I received my repaired radio two days before Field Day started!

They fixed the problem quickly, they worked with me to get it back in time for Field Day (without anything more than the expedited shipping back to me) and the repair bill was less than $300 (including shipping both ways). I couldn't have been more happy!

I hope I don't have to send any radios back any time soon, but if I do, I will definately be sending it to Yaesu!

Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Sent one of my FT-8900R's in for a repair (very low Tx output on 2-M band) and the turn around time was quick. The repair was done right the first time and it did not break the bank.

No Problems Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My 1 month old FT 897D developed a dead spot on the VFO. Optical encoder came up in an internet search. I emailed them on a Saturday, and on Monday morning "Wes" emailed back with shipping instructions. I sent it in, called a couple of times. They told me that warranty items have priority in order of repair. Whole thing took about 2 weeks, and they were very nice when I called to inquire. Interesting, nothing came back with the rig saying exactly what was done. But, it works fine. It came back packed nice, with no scratches. And they said warranty radios get shipped 3 day FedEx, and I got it in 1 day. Be prepaired to have to accept the radio in person, with no way of even having it "held" at FedEx. They want to make darn sure that YOU get the rig in person. All in all, a good experiance! Would use them again, warranty or out of warranty

Super Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The current "rating" of Yaesu WestCoast Service is 3.4. I guess that low number comes from much earlier poor experiences on their service. Most recent comments are 5 out of 5.

My May, 2012 experience was wonderful. I lent my old FT-857 to a friend, after I retired from years of running the radio mobile (with great results). He advised the output was only around ten watts, even with the power set at 90 watts. He sent it back for repair. The turn around time was only about ten days. The cost? One $1.97 cable and one hour of labor! I suppose that the cable "fatigued" itself after years of bouncing around under the seat of the 3 cars in which it had been installed. I feel their service was prompt, honest, reasonably priced; Therefore well earns the 5 rating.

Replacement mike socket and alignment Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought a used FT-897D that had a damaged mike socket. Yaesu tech discussed the potential repair with me prior to sending the unit in. I shipped the unit to their repair factory on the West Coast and had the unit fixed and returned within 10 business days (this was mostly shipping time). The cost was reasonable and under what the tech had estimated before he saw the unit. Great experience and I would not hesitate to use them again. The communication was fantastic!

Factory Service a 5.0 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
My new FT-950 developed a strange problem. The radio would not respond to many of the front panel push buttons.. It was locked on 20m... The transmit power and receive signals were ok, just could not change bands or modes... Shipped off to
Yaesu Factory repair... 10 days after my shipment, it arrived home... Just like new... It does not get
much better than that... I give the Yaesu Factory a 5.0 rating....

Good Job in Repair Work Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A candle fell against my FT-897D and disfigured much of the front of the unit, including fusing one of the DSP switches and marring the vew screen. When it returned from Yaesu, it looked like new. It wsn't cheap ($200 including shipping) but no one else was able or willing to fix it. At least for me, it worked out fine, and they gave me an accurate quote of the price before I sent it it.

Worst Customer Service Don't buy Yaesu Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I recently contacted Yaesu to have an out of warranty VX-7R repaired and they immediately contacted me and every time the answers came back in a matter of hours. So I did send the radio and I was charge $62 that radio came back. Guess what, the radio came back exactly with the same problems. They didn’t fix the charging issue and the radio is still deaf. Now the best part I have sent more than ten Emails and no one answers back. Three different customer representatives that contacted me now don’t answer my emails. That is Yaesu service my friends! I decided not to buy a single Yaesu product ever again in my life. Meanwhile the radio has exactly the same problems. I have also Icom radios and the customer service has been great even if out of warranty so my advice don’t buy Yaesu. If you do don’t complain when the same thing happens to you. They take your money and then I believe they block your email and don’t answer back. Ten Emails and still no answer!

Very Good Warranty Service Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Tuning issue with new FT-450D; dial would backtrack counter to direction of travel or freeze. Talked w/couple of other 450D owners, seemed to be just an anomaly with mine, rig 2 mos old.

I contacted Tim at Vertex who concurred. Rig was double-boxed, shipped to them and they signed for 21 September. A follow-up query to them 6 October was answered within the hour revealing parts needed and enroute from Japan. Est repair the following week. Arrived home from work 18 October and wife had my rig back from them waiting on the LR chair, having been delivered by Fedex.

I consider that very straightforward warranty service considering the turnaround of US Postal Service outbound. I would give them a 4.5 if possible under this system, but a 4 simply because it was a warranty repair and the first trip to them is on the customer's dime.

Overall fine job; the rig works great and they didn't have to hard-start the rig or otherwise mess with existing personal prefs on some of the presets or the MEM freqs. All just as it was. Good deal.

Excellent Customer Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recently the CCW switch on my Yaesu G-450XL rotor failed, a common problem I am told. I called Yaesu parts and ordered two new switches from Joe. I was told the old switches were obsolete, and the new switches would be sent. A week later FedEx delivered the switches, but they were missing the paddles. A call to Yaesu and I was told the paddles were not part of the new switch and would have to be ordered separately. Beatrice graciously found me two paddles, and mailed them to me at no charge! They arrived today, and 10 minutes later the rotor is back together and working just like new. Thanks Beatrice and Joe, your service was greatly appreciated.
