So far so good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is the first time that I have ever had to send in a radio for repair and it must be my bad luck bcause 2 of my radios have died!!! One is a Yaesu 897D and the other an Icom IC-800h. I have The Yaesu arrived today in their service department and the Icom gets to Icom Service on Friday.

The race is on!!!! Let's see who provides the best service and turn around time.

So far I sent an email to Yaesu and they replied very quickly. Seems that they are on the ball.

I will update this post based on Yaesu's overall service.

Worse than I thought Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Yesterday I recieved my radio with incorrect screws on side which made me angry-see my previous review. Today I turned my radio on and lo and behold it stopped functioning-same error as before. Not only did they take my radio for 2 weeks, take $120.00 and send it back with incorrect screws... the radio is still broken. I told them the problem with the PLL but the repair is all about the AM section which never had a problem. I will never again buy a Yaesu product.

Excellent Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Send in a FT-897D for repair on 4/28/2009. Radio was received by Vertex Standard (aka Yaesu) on 5/1/2009.

Received a card in the mail confirming receipt of the radio on 5/2/09.

Received the radio back, repaired and well packed on 5/6/2009.

Repair was under warranty. invoice indicates two Ceramic Filters were replaced.

A most excellent experience.

VL-1000 Quadra Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My beloved Quadra started to expereince an imbalance in the PA which indicated a faulty PA transistor(s), the popular MRF150...I was going to try and do the repair myself but after calling Yaesu they said it would be about 5 days turnaroud time, so off the unit went on February 27...5 days transist from the East Coast to the West Coast, plus 5 days out there and a couple more days to get back was acceptable...after the 5 day transist wait I called and was informed that they were back logged 2 weeks...hummm, did they tell me 5 days just to get me to send it there? After a 2 week wait I was told that the a matched pair of transistors were bad (I already knew that), but they did not have any MRF150's in stock and had to order them from Japan! I thought Motorola MRF150's were made in the U.S.? They also said that it would not be completed until the end of April! Then a fellow called and said that all 4 tranisitors might be bad and I needed to authorize repairs equaling $680!!!! OUCH...Since I was over the barrel, I had to give them that authorization...I received the unit back on April 28, exactly 2 months later....WOW...fortunately the unit is working fine...BTW, they returned the bad MRF150's and they are labeled Motorola! Go figure...If you send a repair to Yaesu, be prepared to wait...had I been originally informed of the delay, I would have given them a better rating.

Poor Communications & Shipping Time Owned: more than 12 months.
About 3 years ago my ft8100 started having "VIA" problems on the 2 meter board so I phoned Yaesu. They said to return it for repair. About 2 weeks later, I phoned Yaesu and they said they weren't repairing the 8100's anymore so they were sending it back to me. Why didn't they tell me that BEFORE I sent it to them? Weeks later still no radio. They shipped it to the wrong address (old address in another state). It was left on the doorstep of a vacant house. This was their mistake, I gave them my current address.

Repair on 8800R Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent my 8800R back to Yaesu service on sept 12th. I received it back from them on Sept 19th. The problem turned out to be a burnt out pre-driver and a few caps that failed. It's what happens when you key up at high power with no antenna attached. Anyway it's back now and working great. Ron @ Yaesu service was quick with the e mail. Can't say anything bad about the experience.

Good service for problem FT-817NDs Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have several FT-817ND rigs purchased over a period of three years. Decaying output power, after a few minutes of operation, was a problem with each of them. That was into a dummy load thru a QRP power meter. They were all returned to Yaesu for repair, all under warranty and within weeks of original purchase.

Yaesu repaired them to specs and in a very timely manner. I had conversations with their technicians and was treated courteously at all times. Naturally, it was difficult for them to believe three different 817s would suffer from exactly the same symptoms, but when the rigs were on the bench, it was apparent something was wrong and service was required.

Anyway, all output power problems were resolved satisfactorily. I love the little 817s and wouldn't dream of getting rid of them.

They are my station transceivers and likely to remain the only rigs on my desk.
