FT-840 Service Repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The radio was repaired, but the box was returned partially opened. Yaesu used the same box I shipped it to them. I double boxed the radio in its original box and enclosed it in another. Glad I did. I am still bothered that Yaesu was so cheap as not to tape the box better for its return. Looks like they used the cheapest packing tape available. Since the radio is out of warranty, I doubt I will ever send it back to the Yaesu service center for repair.

Very fast turn around Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I had received my FT-450/AT ( was an older one from HRO - (no one had a plane jane at the time so i bought the one with a tuner ( and i still don't use the tuner)))) for my birthday and it had quit working almost two months after i received it ( while i was in the hospital with my wife - having a baby you see). It was working when i left and when i got home after the delivery it would not turn on.

Now the good thing (besides the birth of Rowan) - The radio was repaired and returned a day before the post card from Vertex/Standard arrived stating that it would be two weeks before it was finished.

I'm quite happy with the speedy service at Yaesu US -

Great Repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am impressed that it took only one week to get my radio back.

They replaced the transistor and it only cost me 89 dollars with shipping.

They received it on a Tuesday and I got it back the following Thursday. Not bad at all and it works great.

I have owned Yaesu equipment for nearly 30 years and just now I have one radio that quit working. The problem with the FT-8800 is mostly my fault as I was transmitting on antenna that was broke, so if they find that it is the final transistor that went bad, it won't be their fault, but mine.

I have emailed them this week about it and received a reply each time (four emails all together) to mine within a day. So, they do get back to you. Tim Factor, KT7F Yaesu Amateur Tech Support is the one that answered me and told me exactly what he thought it would be and the cost.

I am very happy so far with the service. We will see how it turns out after they fix it. I will report back then.

VX-5 finals went out Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My VX-5 HT lost it's final output power. It was out of warranty so I knew it would cost something. I mailed it off thinking I would not see it for the rest of the summer. A few days later I got a call from Yaesu requesting a credit card #. The girl said the tech would work on it soon. A week later I got a call saying it was be shipped back and a few days later UPS delivered it. I think UPS had it a few less days than Yaesu - good service!! It cost $79 total.

Fast...really fast Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The coaxial gain/squelch knob on my FT-817 lost a fight with the floor, knocked off a table thanks to one of my cats. (I don't see them doing the same with the IC-718, somehow).

I boxed and sent out the rig, and had it back within two weeks, day mailed to day received.

The only thing slow was Yaesu's mail. The paperwork acknowledging receipt of the rig in CA arrived here in ME the same day as the repaired rig itself.

Great Service on FP-29 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The FP-29 power supply for my Yaesu FT1000-MP Mark V failed. I shipped it to Yaesu on Saturday, April 26, 2008. I received a call from Yaesu on Tuesday, April 29. They said they received it and wanted to know my dollar limit for the repair. They said the turn around time was about 2 weeks. On Monday, May 1, 2008 the repaired power supply was shipped back to me. It was only in their shop for 3 days! Now, that's what I call service.

Great Service Fast turn around time Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had to send my FT-897D in for warranty service last August. When I spoke with Duke at Yaesu, told him what the problem was. He said send it in and we'll get it done. He also said to expect it to be gone for at least 4 weeks. Four weeks with out my 897!! Well what could I do, but wait, had the rig back in 2 weeks. How that for service, I got the rig back before the letter from Yaesu stating we will have your piece of equipment for a minimum of 4 weeks. No complaints here.

My One Experience Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I returned my FT-2000 for a simple repair and an an "all mods" update just prior to warranty expiration. Turn time, 11 days door-to-door and everything fixed. You cannot get much better than that. It greatly exceeded my expectations.

Re FT-450 Firmware Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
THOUGHT updating firmware would be simple. Radio had firmware dated 6/07, newest firmware is dated 8/07. Long story short, apparently radio was left in program mode by Yaesu service when it went back for repairs c. 6/07, re xmt audio hum and firmware, "mods", they also did without request. Thus, spent hours trying to get firmware update to work, after unknowingly moving switch (to operate). On the FT-450, program is switch to inboard, operate is switch to outboard. Got Yaesu "tech support" on line. Could not get straight which way switch was in program mode, imagine that. He did not have a clue. Then, wanted to argue about why firmware update needed. Had to tell him current firmware in radio and new firmware date. Kept repeating question, argumentative, etc.. Said he'd have to find a FT-450 and call me back, did not have one in shop. Accused me of "corrupting firmware" and would have to send it in for erase and reprogram.
There's better info on Yahoo FT-450 group than what can be had from Yaesu. The radio is "fixed" and new firmware is installed correctly with no further help from, and depsite Yaesu tech support.
Think I'll just skip beta testing on any "new" Yaesu products for a while. Y'all have it.
