Prompt service Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Recently bought a used FT-817 only to find out later that the finals were burned out. I emailed Yaesu service and received a reply with in about a week with troubleshooting instructions. However within that timeframe i was able to troubleshoot on my own confirm that it indeed was the finals, and was able to order the new board on the phone. Shipping of the new board took ~ 10 days, but they were very up front that shipping from the warehouse was very backed up due to demand and Covid related impacts.

Repair Inquires Ignored Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I called Yaesu repair service in late February 2021. I spoke with a tech about my Ft8800R. It had been dropped during an exercise and one of the knobs had been broken off. The radio was out of warranty (used). I asked if I could repair it myself and the parts costs. The tech persuaded me to send it in and eluded to me, the turnaround was about 2 weeks. I agreed. I sent the radio by UPS on 3.11.2021 and they received it on 3.16.2021. I have POD and the person's name that signed for it.. I expected about 3-4 days before they would call me and tell me the repair cost. Nothing in contact.
I called every day twice a day at different times from 3.22.2021 to 3.31.2021. I even emailed per their request on repair follow-up and no response. Today 3.31.2021 I kept calling and they finally decided to call the sales department who transferred me to the repairs dept.

The phone rang about 15 or so times like it had before, before going to voicemail. I thought that was what going to happen today. Instead I finally spoke to someone. I was livid and told the lady I wanted to get my radio shipped back and I would have someone else repair it. She asked me for a repair code number (some kind of a code) and I said that I did not have one. She said without it, it means that they have not looked at the radio. The lady said it would take at least a month before they would look at it. I explained to her that I have always been a Kenwwood shop, HF and HTs. I was going to change up based on the FTDX101. I had decided to buy the FTDX10 and the FT991 for my go kit at the same time. But based on the repair communication I will be looking for another radio brand. In her nonchalant attitude she said GO AHEAD. I said I will. I told her to fix my radio and that will be the last time I look at Yaesu.

These radio companies get so big and run on a sales vs customer service reputation of "we got you". I have never had that problem with my TS2000 and my 480SAT. The tech call me in a few days after receiving the equipment, explained to me why the issue happened, fixed it and made suggestion(s). Even with my D72 I dropped it and the volume knob got loose, there was not an issue. My Kenwoods were serviced in VA and in CA and both placed communicated with me.

Yaesu customer service is AWFUL. In RESPECT for the customer, they could at least say on their site and on VM that they are running XXX days/weeks behind. Not answering email is really poor service and an "I DONT CARE" attitude for the customer. INEXCUSABLE. They will get my money for this FT880R repair but not for two new radios I am preparing to buy at the same time.

I'm glad to know Yaesu is not the only radio out there. Service after the sale is as much as buying the product.

FT2000 Repair Enquiries ignored Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent my Ft2000 to Yaesu in California for repair in January (had the 'dead' receive failure).
Tracking showed they received it in 5 days.
Enquires thru their website 'Repair Status Form' went unanswered.
A direct email got a response about 4 weeks later with a copy of a service order.
4 weeks after that, still no proactive contact, and enquiries both thru the 'Website Form' and direct went unanswered.
By this time I'm quite upset and went looking for escalation contacts.
None to be found for any Yaesu executive...
Finally tripped across someone who was a 'Service Manager' on Linkedin. Sent a private message.
I then received an email from him stating I needed a new DSP board, none were in stock, with the cost.
I replied back with my approval for the cost, and tried to explain again why I was upset (shaking at this point).
To his credit, he called me.
We spoke, I tried to convey my biggest issue was lack of communication. If they had told me it would be 8 weeks or more, then at least I would have had and expectation and a bar to measure against.
The gentlemen I talked to 'didn't get it', I explained that it was communication I was upset over, but still no comprehension.
Anyway I gave him the info he requested, said they would order the part.
The very next day I received a call from a technician who was apparently working on my radio, with the same info. I replied I already gave it, he looked it up and agreed.
I asked how much longer, he said another month or two. I thanked him as getting upset with the tech does nobody any good.

At that point I found a business card from a senior executive at Yaesu and sent him an email expressing the need for improvement in customer service. That has gone unanswered for the past 7 days.

Doesn't bode well for Yeasu.....unless I had bad contact info, but the email address matched the format for all the others at Yeasu and I did not get undeliverable.

Awesome Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I haven't had to use their service department recently, but my previous experiences have been terrific. All equipment produced today is good but service after the sale is the difference. I am a 100% Yaesu-a-holic!

Don't trust! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought brand new Yaesu FC-40 tuner in November. Realized in December that "SO-239" connector was actually a metric threaded part (1mm pitch vs standard 24 tpi). Sent back to Yaesu Factory Service (YFS) with documented pictures. After 3 months, YFS could not recognize the problem even though they could not fully thread a PL259 shell onto the part! In effect told me I was crazy and sent the tuner back un-repaired. I suspect most FC-40 tuners have the wrong part on them. I can easily do the repair, but shouldn't have to on a BRAND NEW unit.

Had similar poor response on an az-el rotor controller. After confirming that YFS would be able to fix that specific model before I sent it in, they sent it back saying they don't repair that model. In addition, it was poorly packaged and a switch (unobtanium) was broken in transit! I fixed it myself after buying the proper parts and it works just fine, but looks ugly with fixed switch.

FT-991A Bad screen Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
very slow service and no updates offered ... blames it all on the Crono virus. (the universal excuse)
How can that effect someone stetting at a bench repairing radios (I asked them) so much work they laid off several repair techs (go figure).
Never bought a new Yaesu radio that did not need to be returned for repair within the warranty period.
Highly recommend Icom.

Very Bad Service and then, Very Good Service............... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Sent in my FTdx3000 and it was about 1 month before they even acknowledged they had it. The assigned a job # to it and another month went by and nothing. Made an inquiry about it and said it was one of the very next in the que.

1 month later (this is now 3 months), they opened it up and immediately refused to service it. They called it "Insect Infestation" and declared it a health hazard. WTF.

They sent me an image of the tuner compartment that had cobwebs in it (I had it for 4 years sheesh), and just returned it to me with no work done, and provided a list of 5 others that would be able to repair the rig.

Upon receipt of the rig, I opened it up to confirm the cobwebs, blew it out and that was all that was needed.

Four of those in the list, are either dead or no longer doing repairs for Yaesu but one was still doing repairs and shipped it to him, he had it done in about 4 days.

I also recently sent an FTM-400xdr to them and had it back in about 2 weeks. Go figure, sending a rig in for repair these days, is risky business, but I now know how easy it is to repair my 3000 with a little help from my friend.

I don't think I can blame Yaesu for the delay in the 3000 as this was at the height of the pandemic so I cut them some slack and gave them a "Needs Help" rating.

Sent radio in for repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
First time user... great service and assistance from Tim Factor. Turn-a-round was a bit slow because of the COVID thing, but otherwise the experience was great!
