I like mine! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had 2, first one I dropped kinda hard, bent a ground radial and pretty much destroyed it. Second one worked then sat in a tube for 2 years while I was an apartment dweller. I opened it up and did not expect to get much out of it and to my surprise it's a solid performer still.
It sits on a 35' mast right now with FSJ4 hardline and I am running less than 1/2 watt with solid s-9 full quieting reports for repeaters that are 40 miles away, beyond that I need to use 5 watts. Sometimes on stormy nights I need to bump up to 25 watts but I have never had a need to use 50 watts on 2 meters, If you try pumping over 100 watts into this thing throw it out.... you probably killed it! But for 4 years of service (not including the 2 years it sat in a tube) It has done an excellent job. I started using another similar antenna (similar in size, and design) and it wasn't any better. I haven't tried anything over 14 feet to compare yet, but in due time I will.

This antenna is great Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I dont understand the negative reviews of this antenna. This is a great antenna, American made 6 db gain not dbi. I am getting to repeators i never thought a vertical omni would get! I am only about 20 feet in the air,all i can say is if you find this antenna new or used get it you wont be dissapointed! 73's kb9ylu

Garbage Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The wife purchased this antenna from HRO.
After having it delivered via UPS,it sat in the shipping tube. I had to wait about 8 weeks to get my feed line for it. Once recieved I installed the radials and clamped it on a roof mount. The antenna from the first use till the time I brought it down was awful. Checking the VSWR it read about 6.1 on the VHF. I contacted the factory to be told it was factory tuned.I was told other than the radials being installed improperly, there was no way to tune it. ( A child could install the radials with eyes closed)
We shipped the antenna back at a cost of almost 50 dollars us. Now I wish the wife would have purchased somthing else. We wait for the factory to call or contact us via e-mail. I wouldn't recommend this antenna to my worse enemy.

Works Better as a Fishing Pole Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Our local club bought one of these with hopes of using it as a repeater Antenna. The first one we recieved didn't meet the manufacturers spec; the SWR, at best, was 1.8:1. I called Hustler, and they were very courtious, and tried to help. They explained how to tune it.I also pointed out that the antenna, where the coil is, was full of water.
After discussing this with Hustler, the factory told me it appeared that the antenna had not been properly sealed. We had hoped that when it dried out, the SWR would be better. They even told me what product to seal it with. Well, after it dried out the SWR was no better. After several telephone calls & fustrating attempts at tuning it,(as directed by the factory) I gave up and sent it back.
Hustler sent us a new replacement, and it's not one bit better. We were in a pinch, and simply had to install it regardless. In the process of installing it ( done by a commercial antenna installer), the N connector broke off. They use a cheapo chassis mount N connector. They slightly bend the mounting ring on the connector to make it match the contour of the antenna. It looks like it weakens the connector, and it simply pulled apart.

The SWR was measured using two different MFJ analizers. Also, the replacement antenna (before it self distructed) was swept using commercial equipment and the SWR was verified as 1.9:1.

I have installed many commercial antennas at my job, and I can tell you in my opinion this thing is NO WHERE CLOSE to a commercial grade antenna. In it's defense, it's not priced like one either. If you have ever used any of the Hustler mobile resonators, you know what a great product they are. It's hard to believe this trash is made by the same company.

I do not like giving a negative review, but based soley on my experience, I can say do not buy this thing. I replaced it with a different brand of antenna, american made, which was commercially tested and has an SWR of 1.13:1. I will review
it seperately later.

Yes, I could send it back, again, but after a while you get so fustrated with a product you simply give up. I was thinking about taking the radials off, and mounting some eyelets to the fiberglass shaft, and perhaps a fishing reel near the base of it. At least I could use it as a fishing pole. Watch for me on a future episode of BassMasters...

years of perfect performance Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had these myself for years, and also the local club has. They are great performers and never let you down.

What I have to really wonder is: with this US-made antenna available for the reasonable price they sell it for ... and such dynamite manufacturer support ... why do people buy the foreign-made VHF/UHF omni antennas which have been proven to me to fail so often?

The only thing I can think of it that these guys need to LET THE SECRET OUT and do some marketing equal to the product quality!

Will not handle high power Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought one too, thinking it was a neat looking deal, and used it for packet/repeater use. Originally the design called for 200 watts max, then they changed it to 100 after people started complaining. These antennas were purchased around 1993. Maybe they are built better now.

The weak spot was a small piece of RG-174 that attached the type-N connecor to the matching coil. The center conductor ran through a 5 pF capacitor, then to the radiating element. I ran a UHF system at 35 watts and a VHF system at 75. The voltages on the piece of RG-174 inside the antenna were high enough to burn through and destroy it. We sent it back to Hustler, they gave us a new antenna, and it did the same thing. It was then that we realized it would not take over 100 watts duplexed.

I do not know how well they are built now, but electrically they were not so great then. Their G6 and G7 mono banders are excellent! But I am not so sure about the dual band. Maybe if you run a normal base rig with under 50 watts it will work well for you?

Built like a tank! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Commercial grade! The only assembly is to put on the four radials, clap it to a mast, and connect the coax. NO TUNING! It works great. My antenna is currently at 12 feet and I have no problems accessing a 2 meter repeater 30 miles away full quiting, which is what I wanted to accomplish. The way this antenna is built, I won't have to buy another dual band antenna.
