Review Summary For : Heathkit HD-1780 IntelliRotor Controller
Reviews: 2MSRP: 279.95 excluding rotator
Description:
Manufactured 1990-92
"Available in kit form or assembled form, the HD-1780 is compatible with many popular rotators including all Ham-M (series 3,4,5 and 6), Ham-II, Ham-III, Ham-IV, CDE, TR-44, CD-45 (series 2), and M2. The QWERTY keyboard lets you swing the antenna based on entry of callsign prefix, grid square, latitude and longitude, bearing in degrees, or first few letters of the country. The unit has a ROM database of 400 countries and allows you to add 10 headings of your own. The 1780 also can be connected to your PC (DB-9)(with supplied software) and can report headings in 20 wpm morse for visually impaired users. Features include motor pulsing, automatic brakes, and initial back-rotation to protect brakes from locking due to wind loading. A special 120 VAC power supply module connects via cable(DB-9): specifications are not available. Made off-shore and designed by Heath for Telex as an OEM product. Make sure you get the instruction book. Also, if you want to control it with a PC, you must have the software. Caution: The HD-1780 is a nice gizmo, but if it ever goes down, chances of getting it fixed are remote. Rare."

HD-1780 Software Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I love the Heathkit Intellirotor. I built this one in the late 80's. Still works perfectly. Have the manual and software too. If you need a copy of the no longer available software from Heath, just email me. (bromschwig@aol.com). This software is very difficult to find and I wanted to make mine available to anyone who needs it.

Thanks.....KF0KX

Great accessory Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought one of the last kits to be offered (1994)in the back of CQ or QST magazine from the Benton Harbor store. It went together very fast and even worked the first time I put it together! I paid, I think, $159.95 at the time. I use it with AEA's LogWindows 3.0(now owned by CSS), and LOGic 5 by Personal Database Applications. Depending on the software used, you can click on a dx spot, log the call to your log software and have the antenna turn that direction automatically!!
Great product, if you can find one!!!
