one great adaptor Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This adaptor from KC2BHO may be a little more expensive than most, but it is a quality item. It keeps my antenna rigid while providing a breakaway, to prevent damage, in case I drop my radio . I don't mind paying more for quality.

Stephen was a pleasure with which to deal. He shipped quickly even before he received my check. He even left follow up messages to assure satisfaction. I highly recommend Stephen and his product to anyone.

What a great product. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just got my SMA/BNC adapter from Steve Gulyas today. That was FAST service, and the adapter itself makes my formerly-wobbly MFJ 1712 telescoping whip for my VX-5R really rock-solid. If you've got an HT and want a solid, stable base for your antennas, get one. You will not be sorry!

good product Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Just a quick comment. I've had mine for over a year and am quite happy with it.

OK but expensive Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This adapter is nice in that it has some black rubber tubing over it that maintains the diameter of the typical rubber ducky and looks nice. Some argue that the tubing provides additional "support" for the antenna. I don't buy that. Whatever, you wind up paying a lot for that tubing as you can get the same SMA to BNC adapter without it for $2.99 from www.Jameco.com

Cheaper Parts Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Please do your homework before paying $11.95 for the adapter...

Easy to get, cheap! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My favorite radio is a Kenwood, TH-G71 which requires an antenna with an SMA connector. But it is sold with a terrible rubber duck and should be replaced. My favorite duck is the Icom FA-1443B, available from Icom direct for about $30, but it has a BNC connector, not an SMA, so I needed an adapter. The little SMA-to-BNC adapters are available at most hamfest flea markets for two or three dollars. Or order one by mail from nearly any ham radio dealer for four to five dollars plus shipping. Although they work just fine, they are made of two separate pieces, and they are very skinny, so they will generally allow the rubber duck antenna to wiggle badly and put stress on the radio's antenna jack. SNAP!! So here is what you do. Go to Radio Shack and buy a cheap pack of heat shrink tubing. Put several layers on your adapter to make it much thicker. Before you do this, however, buy another connector of any kind that has at least one end that is like the SMA stub that sticks out of the top of your radio and screw your SMA-to-BNC adapter on to it. This will not only act as a heat sink (remember, you are going to heat the tubing in order to shrink it; I use a candle) but also keep the little center pin in the center. You see, the plastic in the center of the adapter will get soft when you heat the tubing, allowing it to move and to no longer remain centered. Make the length of the tubing about a half inch longer than you need it to be at BOTH ends so you can trim it with a sharp razor knife later. Cut the bottom of the tubeing very perpendicular to the axis of the adapter and gradually make it shorter (keep trimming it and then trying it) until it is just long enough so that it will butt up against tha top of your radio with reasonable preasure. Now the tubeing will support the adapter instead of the flimsy little SMA stud on your radio. And the two parts within the adapter will no longer wiggle. And thanks to the black color of the heat-shrink, it looks better than the adapter did before.

Also fits ALinco DJ-S40 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I wrote Stephen K2BHO to see if he could provide an adapter for my Alinco DJ-S40, 70cm HT. He requested me to make some dimensions and recommended a unit he felt would fit. I received the adapter yesterday and it fits perfectly. This is a much better solution tan the combination of SMA - Male SO239 combined with a Female SO239 - Male BNC to a Female - Female BNC that I had been using.

does what it needs to: "customer relations" is almost perfect Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The product does what is claimed and KC2BHO (Stephen) is an absolute joy to deal with. Since I change from the whip to the feedline to a fixed antenna at least once 1 day, this widget will prevent a repair on my radio itself.

The Way to Go! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought one for each of my HT's: a Kenwood TH-G71A and a Yaesu VX-150. The VX-150 adapter works great with the mobile antenna in the truck. Steve's workmanship is superb and the adapters really increase the utility of SMA-equipped HT's. Get one for your handheld; you'll be glad you did.
