Works Great!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been using this headset since 2004. It is without a doubt the best I've ever used. I've been using headsets since 1947. Mostly military "surplus" units from all branches. These units are the best by far. If you've ever had to wear a headset for several hours each day, you'll really appreciate these comfortable units. The phase switch and the dual mic elements are really frosting on the cake! I'd recommend these to anyone.

Awesome Audio!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've been dreaming about the Heil PSP for months now. I won $350 at a casino on a slot game after only putting in $6, so I took the money and ran right down to HRO in Portland. Bought the headset and the hand key switch. Unfortunately they didn't have the Kenwood 4 pin adapter in stock but will have it shipped to me.
So far I'm only able to test the audio until I get the Mic adapter, but from what I've heard so far has been magical! I've been using the MFJ-392b shortwave headphones up until now and I had no idea what I was missing! The sound quality coming from my TS-120s through the Heil PSP is incredible! And the Phase switch is really cool too! The set was extremely comfortable right out of the box, fit over the head without having to stretch or bend anything. They sit over my ears perfectly. All I can say is I absolutely love it so far. Can't wait to try the dual HC4 and HC5 mics!!!

Probably the best I own... overall Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I always find eHam reviews interesting.... So of course I read them with great but guarded interest when ever I am on the hunt for a 'better' pair of headphones. My XYL thinks I am just a collector but honestly just hard to please. I also believe as comfort is such an important concept with heaphones that any review will be subjective to the user's personal comfort experience.

Now I think my most comfortable and easy to listen to headphones by far are my NRD JST-3 (JRC). I can wear them for hours with little fatigue. However, they are not stereo (nor easily modified) so they don't let me take full advantage of the advanced audio features in my Ten-Tec Orion. Nor do they have a boomset attachment (although I saw to modified pairs on eBay once that I wish I had bought). So both of those 'needs' had to be met another way.

I began with Warren Gregoire & Associates TR 2000 headsets... To me fit and finish was poor... sound quality so-so... boom attachment inflexible (to say the least) and the mic element simply not audio shaped for SSB. Next I tried several lower priced Heil headsets. I used the ProSet with the element 4 cartridge for over a year before I bought the ProSet Plus.

Heil ProSet Plus: Large in form but unexpectedly comfortable in use. I don't find that they provide unusual pressure but should they be to close it is easy to 'bend' the support system as needed. Sound quality feels good for general communication needs... neither too much base or too many highs. I really like the cloth cushion covers for added comfort. The boom easily adjusts for either left or right side use and the phase reverse control very useful especially for long CW sessions.

After several contests and hours of weak-signal DXing I have NOT found a better stereo boomset for my own personal use. That is why I can comfortably give these a '5'rating.

Heil Quality & Support - SUPER!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I too treated myself to a Pro-Set Plus, and was temporarily dissapointed with the fit. Specifically, the clamping on the ears was too much, and the suport band was loose, allowing the cups to sit too low on my ears. I sent an email to Heil, and within less than 12 hours I received a detailed personal reply from Bob Heil with pictures detailing how to adjust the headphones so they fit perfectly. They are adjustable - but there isn't any info on adjusting them in the box.

I really wanted to like these... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I really wanted to like the PSP headphones. I read the reviews here on eham and decided to ask for them as a Christmas gift.

For me they just aren't comfortable. Since there is no way to adjust them, I just could not get past the way they pinched my ears against my head. For $200.00, I just couldn't justify the discomfort.

They sound good and I like the ability to switch the phasing on the audio.

I have no problems with Heil equipment or their quality, I just didn't care these.

I'm sure for others, they fit fine. Just didn't work for me. I will be returning them and looking for something else.

Very Nice Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just got these and gave them a spin.
In the Army I used a number of headsets. None were designed for comfort but they worked of course.
When I was a Novice in the 1970s I used earphones for CW work all the time. They served their purpose.
I have had occasion to use many military headsets over the years working on the gear for the US Navy until I retired. They were improved but certainly not designed for all day comfort in my opinion.
Since I got back into ham radio a few years ago I have been some high end stereo headphones that have served well.
I did not realize until I got the new Heil Pro Set Plus just how much comfort I was missing with my current headphones. These are very nice.
I expected the audio reports to be good with both cartridges from Heil as that is what they are known for.
What I did not expect was just how nice the audio is. And the phase switch on the side of the headset gives you a refreshing change too.
I have had a hearing problem since my Army service. Back round noise really tends to wipe out voices for me and this new Heil headset really "clears" the audio for me.

Wow! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this unit a couple of weeks ago and was truly amazed. I am using a 756Pro3 and a 746. The audio is incredible and the reports I have been getting are out of this world. I have had no problems with RF and the unit is comfortable and the earphone section blocks out internal QRM....very useful with teenagers in the house! The cable adapter was not particularly good but I merely replaced it and was good to go. I love this unit and expect it to last a long, long time.

A great product ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought mine to go with my Yaesu 1000, and it's almost the best purchase I have made. They are extremely comfortable to wear for extened periods. The headphone audio is outstanding, and the mic(s) are perfectly sensitive. It's much more enjoyabe for both CW and Phone.

They took too many shortcuts Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased one to go with my new transceiver. The first problem I encountered was RF in the headphones. When running 1500 watts, the problem was unbearable. When running 100 watts, the problem was still there, but only extremely annoying.

The on-air tests revealed another problem. RF was getting into the microphone. Upon further investigation, I discovered that Heil broke their own rules on good RF shielding in the cables. The microphone part of the cable uses the shield as the common. Even Heil, in their own web pages, strongly recommends that you not do this. On the headphones side of this headset, Heil uses the shield as the common return. They need to put the two stereo connections and the common inside a shielded cable. The microphone needs to have the two microphone wires put inside a shielded cable.

I have resolved the RFI problems by putting 4 large rf beads on the cables. This is butt-ugly and cumbersome. My calls to Heil tech support garnered a little interest at first, but they have taken no further steps to resolve their design problems. My additional e-mails to them have gone unanswered. I expected more from a company like Heil.

One the positive side, the headphones fit nicely and feel comfortable.
