Excellent Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is the first headset I have been able to use for long periods of time. The audio quality is excellent and they are very comfortable to wear.

Having two mic elements has also been helpful. I get very good audio reports with the regular element, and the DX element has made the difference in pile ups many times.

Since I started using the Pro-Set Plus with my Kenwood TS-2000, the DX-60 mic I bought with the unit has stayed in the closet!

My only concern has been with the cord. For my station, a coiled cord would have been a better choice. The straight cord tends to get tangled with computer and mouse wires. Perhaps Heil could offer either straight or coiled cord as an option.

Now, if I can just get the VOX adjusted right......

Pretty good Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I'll be honest, I prefer the band arrangement in the regular Pro Set but like the build of the Plus and the switchable elements, as well as the all encompassing cans.

I find I have to not move my head too fast or these slide (never off, but enough to wake you up with the threat of impending gravity).

The phase switch is very useful to me.

Having good ears, I can make a real difference by playing with signals in and out of phase, and that is with a full set of 500 Hz and 2.4 KHz filters on my Mark V.

Comfortable Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I use this headset with a Yaseu Mark V. The comfort of the set is a BIG plus--you can wear it for hours. The mic and ability to switch between mic elements is a plus too.

Excellent quality audio in the ears; with the Mark V I can switch so I can listen to two receivers at once in split or dual mode, one in each ear.

Tbe phase switching is nice but more of a curiousity.

The only thing I would improve is include the PTT switch with the unit. I think one which costs this much should come with a PTT.

Comfortable, nice sounding headset. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After forming the top band to fit me better, all is OK. The inner band suspension is nice. Audio quality reports not too much different than on my Goldline. Have not had the "boomo-floppo" problem that some have remarked on. Perhaps Bob has beefed-up the mounting.

The spatial switch is a nice touch. Gives the audio a "roomy" sound.

I gave this headset a 4 out of 5, as I would prefer a bit more tension on the inner suspension band. It is not a design flaw in any way, I just prefer a bit more suspension on suspended headsets.

Excellent Headset & Comfortable Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I’ve used many headsets and microphones over the years. This combination is near perfection. They are comfortable and the HC-5 dynamic element sounds great.

When I first opened the box and held the headset in my hands the size of the headset, microphone boom and element enclosure caused a bit of concern. The sturdy (and substantial) mic boom is mounted on one of the two full-sized, closed cup, circum-aural headphones. Was all this plastic, vinyl and steel a bit too much to wear?

The headband suspension self-adjusts and no knobs or click stops are provided. As if made for my head, the headband fell right into place with just the right amount of tension. The headbands fit me perfectly with no bending or adjustment. Once positioned the whole thing stays in place comfortably. Very nice! A set of cloth earpiece covers are provided if that is your preference.

The ear cups attenuate a substantial amount of room noise and allow total focus on the incoming audio. Despite its robust size the Pro Set Plus is not heavy. After hours of wearing them they are still comfortable. The microphone boom requires a bit of pursuasive force to bend and rotate it into position. This is a one-time affair, and it hasn’t budged a millimeter since. A small foam windscreen slides over the element housing and adds to the girth of the mic. For those who like a small, discrete-looking microphone this is not for you.

Compared to other studio-quality headphones, the audio is quite good. This is a nice sounding communications headset. Received audio is crisp and clear with ample low, mid and high frequency response. However headphone volume is a bit less than my other phones at the same receiver setting. This is not a big issue since simply increasing the volume level is the solution. The closed ear cups effectively reduce feedback when monitoring your transmitted audio or making EQ adjustments. The phase reversal switch added something to tinker and experiment with.

The HC-5 microphone element has a pleasing frequency response and has a somewhat full sound with a moderate amount of low end. It is not quite as robust sounding as the Heil Goldline full-range element, but gets good audio reports for it’s smooth and clear audio quality. The HC-4 element is also built-in and a small slide switch changes the active element. This element is harsh sounding and favors the mid and higher frequencies – as intended. I’ll save this one for DX work.

Interfacing with my Kenwood TS-940S was easy using the optional adapter cable. You’ll also need a PTT switch – an easy project. A ¼” stereo phone jack is standard on the Kenwood, so receiver audio was plug and play. I also had no difficulty feeding microphone audio into a pre-amp and an EQ for audio experimentation. The mic connection is by 1/8” mono plug and a suitable adapter was easily found in my parts box. An ample length of wire is provided so you can move around your operating position.

I like the Heil Pro Set Plus and this is a fine addition to my shack. The construction and audio quality are excellent and should provide years of use. 73, N2KEN.

Fabulous addition! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
What a difference in net operations! Bought at Dayton, finally hooked it up to the new ICOM 756PROII for County Hunters Net.. what a difference! Fabulous mic quality, headphones are light-years away from anything I'v used in the past... Run, don't walk, and find the best internet price on these... it's a whole new world!

The best Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had it for several months, comfortable over the long haul, works as advertised. Both elements can be used under DX condx and you have the option of the #5 for ragchews. This in my 50 years as as Ham, the best, bar none!!

Let me add my comments to the others. I have several of the Heil products and have always been a fan. This one is clearly the best, my opinion.
Very light, great audio on receive and built like a tank. This will become my headset of choice. One more, with an Icom radio, you can make the TX audio sound terrific, even on the HC 4 element. Why Yaesu didn't put EQ in the FT 1000 MK5, I'll never understand, big mistake Yaesu!!
Great product Bob Heil.

Very high quality addition Time Owned: N.A.
Another excellent product. I run this set with my Yaseu ft-1000mp field and its great. Very comfortable though not sure I would want to wear it for hours at a time.

Quality of sound and speach is well above my expectations.

Rather sad it does not come as standard with a PTT of some type as this is yet another extra that you have to remember to purchase.
