Performance Worth Mentioning Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Once you start to get used to this radio, you begin to wonder how you could use anything else. I have had this radio now for some time and the more I use it the more I have to praise the wonderful performance this radio delivers. The radio's audio is smooth listening, gone are the fatigue of listening to a noisy receiver. Excellent audio with broad response recreates the SSB signal into an almost FM like quality. With the radio's width control knob in your hand, powerful mechanical filtering blocks undesired noise with a small twist. The mechanical IF filtering is so good the DSP is almost irrelevant. However, if you so desire, click on the DSP for both customizable and preset filter widths. I can go on forever about this radio and this review would continue to grow massively. I bought mine new for $1700 dollars, and that price is still possible (and perhaps the best deal in ham radio today). You may think this radio will meet your expectation, but it simply exceeds. Go down to your favorite ham store and compare it to the competition. If you're like me, you'll never look back. Good luck and 73, Brian, W2BRI.

Good offer, almost perfect radio. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Normally you get what pay, but here you got more. Save your 350$ and buy the Field instead the 200W version. The people how complains the display have to buy a pear of new glasses. The sound from TX and RX is just perfect, not as PRO2 from Icom who sounds like a robot because its totally DSP freak. Buy the Field and you can twist your receiver and transmitter like you want. Side by side with my TS850 the noise floor is little bit better on the Field without the DSP function in action. I have no measurement on the receiver yet, but It were burn in at the Danish fieldday last year on 40 meter, and it works like a dream, I have newer thought 40 could be so silence and nice, just push the IDBT and all QRM disappear a very nice button. You have over 100 buttons and lots of menu to play with if the band conditions is down. I am very pleats with my investment and it cost me 2000$, for new buyers it only 1900$ not a bad price for what you get.

Anyone want to buy an IC-746 Pro ??? Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have had my FT-1000 Mark-V Field transceiver for a week and really do enjoy using it. While I liked my IC-746Pro, I love the "Field"!!
I put in both of the optinal 2000HZ Filters and can really tell the difference when switching these filters into the circuit. As a result, I am now getting ready to populate the empty CW filter slots expecting the selectivity to get even better.
I use this new rig primarily on CW, having been a Navy Radioman for 20 years. The "Field" is an absolute dream on CW, superior to the 746Pro with its infinite DSP filters. I wish I could have had the "Field" as my receiver in my navy days. I remember so well trying to dig NPO (Philippines) or NPN (Guam) out of the noise and QRM for countless hours while using an RBS and RBO navy receivers in the mid to late 1950s.
I would have purchased the 200 watt version of this rig if Yaesu had been able to solve the reliability problems in it. Maybe I will swap my older "Pro" for a linear !!??!! ;~}

Excellent Rig !!!! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I Bought the rig new at Dayton.Replaced a Icom 756.I`ve played with a 756 PRO and Pro II and must say the Yaesu is for me,and alot of others too.No problem here with the dim display.I love the built in power supply which the MK V is outboard. The reciever is excellent much better than the PRO or PROII.The menu`s are easy to access. The VRF and IDBT are a blessing in fighting any QRM that maybe out there.Hats off the Yaesu on this rig it`s a top notch rig and the price they had on it at Dayton $1699.00 was unbelievable.Want a top of the line rig,Go get this one !!!!

excellant radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have been using this radio now for over two weeks. first of all let me say I do not understand the complaints about the display I keep mine on the low setting and have plenty of brightness, In fact i found the factory default setting of high to be much too bright. The manual is well written and walks a new owner through getting to know the radio, I heard from various reflectors about how hard the radio was to work with no problems here if you do one simple thing before you use the radio, that is sit down and read the damn instructions! I added the 250 khz narrow cw filter to the first I.f. and this greatly improves its performance on cw. The receiver performance during contest band conditions is overall pretty impressive, much better than the 756pro I had earlier.
I compared the receiver on weak sigs to my K2/100 rig and the two pretty much run neck in neck. The only two nits I have to pick with this radio is
1. you have to have the optional keypad to program the keyer memories but for under $100 this
is not a big issue, built in dvr would be nice too.
2. would have liked to see the DSP put ahead of the agc loop as using the rig with the ssb bandwidth on cw during crowded conditions causes some pumping action if the bandwidth controll is set midscale, turning this off via menu 7-7 setting makes listening during contest conditions more enjoyable.
The antenna tuner works great have not had any problems matching anything I have here in fact in exceeds it 3-1 vswr rating by several times.
All i can say is having owned several of the upper shelf rigs this one is the best so far. By all means buy one you wont be sorry.

First Class Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned this radio for 1 week now and have the following initial comments:

I just don't understand the complaints regarding the display. I find the display easy to read and just right for viewing. I have the dislay set to default (Hi) and find it perfect for me.

As for the performance, early days yet but it's simply superb. The EDSP and IDBT facilities work as they should. The DSP is far better than my TS-2000 which makes everyone sound as if they are talking through a tin. The receive audio is about the best I have heard.

I have fitted the additional IF Filters which really finish the receiver off!

All in all, I think it is worth the money.

I would recommend it without hesitation.

BUY IT!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is it! Last radio I bought was 20 years ago and was the old ICOM751 (which I still own and enjoy) BUT, THIS YAESU IS A KEEPER Has everything. Learning curve is worth it. (I had the Mark V 200w and it died in less than a week) THIS ONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE BUGS WORKED OUT OF IT. and is put together better....

I AM IN LOVE (I'll update this report in a year or so after the "glow" has warn off) CQ WW CW CONTEST IS UPCOMING SO WE SHALL SEE.

Great Transceiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a absolutely great piece of communications equipment. I have however two comments concerning its performance. The first is the L.E.D display. At times it takes 10sec. to display and of course other times it displays immediately when power is applied to the rig. It gives me a little concern as to whether or not someday it may not come on at all. The other thing I have noticed is when operating ssb on 40mtrs. When adjusting the mike gain using the ALC indicator. Sometimes it works and other times it does not. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Excellent Radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
All around this is the best and most enjoyable radio I have ever owned, and I haven't been a Yaesu fan over the years. I've probably owned 20 to 25 xcvrs over the last 25 years and the last Yaesu I liked before this one was the FT-107 of the late 1970's. Several years back I owned a FT-1000D which I thought was one of the worst radio's ever made from an operating convenience standpoint. Prior to the 1000MP Field, my favorite radio was the Kenwood TS-850, and I'm still hoping that Kenwood brings out something comparable again. The dual receive option on the 1000MP Field is superb. Being able to listen to the two receivers, one in one ear and one in the other makes an unbelievable difference on split frequency CW pileups. The radio is extremely well designed from an ease of operation standpoint with the exception of dealing with the menus. Luckily, after getting everything set the way that I want it, I find that I seldom have to deal with the menus. Expect to do some reading about how to set up the menus from various internet sites. The setup from the factory was particularly irritating on CW on mine (bought at Dayton)
