Eccellente Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Fortemente suggerito.
73 a tutti

This rig stikk rock. I had one brand new before and BIG MISTAKE. I sold that one on Ebay. Now I decide to get back to HF bands and I get lucky to get another one. I lobe the EQ DSP and for CW is a Champion. I was between a IC-756 Pro III and the Mark V Field and I decide Mark V Field because the reviews and the price. If you can get one get it, you will love this radio.

After have a FT 920 i save money then i call HRO and i ordered a brand new FT 1000MP MK Field.I can't compare the 920 with this one.Great receiver, nice menu, nice display a lot of menu to play with so i can listen the estacion how i really want. The last week end was the ARRl concurse and i test this rig and the receiver didn't collapse like the 920.
If you can get one getted you will be enjoy the HF bands like never before. One more thing the power supply inside save me room on my shack aand the rig run cool even whe i'm doing a lot of CW contact.

Very Fine Radio Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Hello:

First off, I have had my Field for over nine months. I wanted to make sure that I had some operating time before doing a review.

I did considerable "homework" before deciding on the Field. My goal, however, was to stay "around" the $2000 price point. I looked at the Kenwood TS-570, Icom IC-746 Pro, Ten-Tec Jupiter, and Yaesu FT-847. I also looked at the Icom IC-756 Pro III even though it was a lot more money. I read the reviews for each, talked to the dealers (every one recommended the FT-1000 MP over all of the other radios), and talked to owners. After three months of research, I decided on the FT-1000 MP Mark V Field.

Why the Field over the higher powered MP? I went with the Field for two reasons: The first was the cost difference, and secondly was the built in power supply. Several people told me to go with the higher powered MP, but I really like the idea that I can run the Field off of a battery supply if needed. I took the extra money I could have spent on the MP and purchased the Inrad roofing filter.

It has taken a bit of time to get used to the radio. It has a lot more options and features than any previous radio I have used. Even with the default settings, however, the radio is simply amazing. I very much like the tightness of the receiver, the ability to pull in difficult signals, and the ability to cut QRM. I'm sure the roofing filter adds a lot there (the filter was installed when I purchased the radio, so I have no idea what the performance is without it).

On the transmit side I have received many compliments on the quality. Even with a 100 Watts I routinely bust through to reach DX stations. In fact, I'm amazed at how often I simply throw out my call once and have a station pick my little 100 Watt station out of multitude.

I could go on and on about this or that feature, but you have likely read or heard all of it before. Let me summarize by saying the FT-1000 MP Mark V series radios are an amazing value for around $2000. I'm looking forward to seeing how well the FT-1000 MP Mark V Field performs at Field Day!!

Good but complex Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Mark V Field replaced my TS-850. 5 extra filters installed + INRAD roofing filter. One change is fewer external components: external PS, DSP and RX equalizer are no longer needed. Sensitivity was so so until the roofing filter was added. However, I have a hard time seeing fewer artifacts with the roofing filter, even during contests, and often the second RX sounds better.

The extra filters are mainly useful during contests. For narrow CW, I opted for a 300 Hz mechanical instead of 250 Hz crystal filter. It is not too sharp but has no ringing whatsoever and has very nice sound. Does very well in contests.

Compared to TS-850, received audio is smoother and less noisy, filters can be nicely aligned, carrier injections can be easily changed, second receiver is a plus, and dual reception sounds sexy. Also, S-meter stays same regardless of IPO setting, and RIT cancel is nice. Unprocessed audio can be tailored to anything, but processed with default setting was judged worse than in TS-850. The processing level in Field's meter is out of touch with reality. The processor, if adjusted carefully, which seems to be touchy, sounds very good in the end.

I found the contour functions useful: middle cut for CW, low cut for bassy and high cut for "contest" signals.

The radio has zillions of settings, and many of them interact. This makes it a good radio for technical enthusiasts and a nightmare for end users. For example, one can form the SSB signal via crystal filters or via DSP. The first way allows for setting carriers, separate for USB/LSB and regular/processed. The DSP way allows the signal to be formed either at 6 or 2.4 KHz, with the low cut anywhere between 100 and 300 Hz. Also, there is an TX equalizer that makes wonders with some microphones and no wonders with others. Trying all the options can take forever.

I discover new settings and new opportunities every so often. My last favorite is a button with a resistor to the remote jack. When pressed, it provides 10W carrier for tuning no matter what the mode. Now I can retune my Centurion to a new band in a few seconds

For weak signal, my Field is a bit better than TS-850, but I found instances where marginal SSB or CW copy on the Field were comfortable copy on K2! Perhaps I have not mastered all features of the Field yet.

Some negatives are not that good AGC, lack of second antenna connection to second receiver. Also NB is poor although a mod apparently makes it much better. Once I was ready to do the mods but when I saw how small the elements were, there were no mods. Yet!

In all, this is a lot of radio for the money. Some features like VRF may be critical to copy in the presence of local strong stations and may be the main reason to buy this radio. It is an excellent radio for those who want to tinker. For those who prefer simplicity, there may be other choices.

awesome Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
as a newly licensed ham here in the uk i done a great deal of swapping/trading before i took the plunge and read the reviews on here before splashing out £1600 for this baby.....i,m well impressed...so much so that the reports i get on audio are nice to recieve..one old guy on 80m said i didnt need bbc audio on 80m so the mark 5 field is obviously working..
its complex in the audio and filtering side of the rig but if its there and fitted its there for a reason...when it got delivered another ham was in my shack and once plugged on with edirol speakers and unplugged without speakers being in line we BOTH decided the audio was suprisingly better without the external speakers...the filtration is astounding and the md200a8x microphone makes the punch with the processor just that..PUNCHY..i rate the radio highly indeed..best 73,s de 2e0jkd..keith in middlesbrough north east england..

Great Audio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I upgraded from a 746 pro and the first thing I noticed was the audio from this rig it is very nice.

I got mine from AES and there was only a couple left I'm glad I did not wait too long before they were all gone. I plan to add some Inrad filters soon this rig has alot of features and it will take a few weeks to figure everything out. But I'm sure glad I got one.
