| YAESU FT-10000 MK- V FIELD |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
I bought mine 6 months ago from HAM STATION ! These gentlemen are top notch! Not that I am promoting Ham Station but let me tell you they were honest and quite frank about the rig ! This peaked my intrest before I bought the rig I did some research from e-ham here and also went to listen to the rig for my own ears ! I was convinced! I own several nice rigs KENWOOD 940,850,870,2000,Icom 756PRO PROII ,AND NOW THE Yaesu FT-1000 MK V FIELD! What a great receiver! This rig has truly all the qualities of the others but there are so many different ways of tailioring the receive as well as the transmit audio! The receive in my opinion is the best I have ever heard! The transmit audio is outstanding! The rig as far as I am concerned WILL BE A CLASSIC!

I have owned quite a few radios so far ! KENWOOD 2000, ICOM 746, 756, 746PRO,756PRO ,II AND NOW 3 ,ICOM 706MK IIG ,KENWOOD TS 870,850.940,140,. I have never owned such a great radio AS THE mark v field with such recive as well as transmit ! Audio quality in both chains are terrfic ! It has that old hi fi tube sound with rich quality! If you like a rig with studio sound and want to get rid of qrm this is it ! I just bought this one which is a high serial number and it works terrfic! I was able to tune out most am broadcasts on 40 meters which was a real suprise ! I can barely do it with my PRO 3 ! In comparsion to Kenwood rigs I think the 870 comes close ! Forget the 2000 it is a fine rig for all band use but doesnt come close to the 1000 MKV FIELD! I also have the optional filters and wow is all I can say ! The transmit audio doesnt need a Beringer or w2ihy or any of the other stuff! It has it all ! Well enough said ! If you want a radio with a great receive and trasmit that sounds like studio quality get this one ! |

Am so happy that I read the eham reviews before I bought this transceiver. Initally I couldn't decide whether to buy the FIELD model of the FT-1000 MP Mk-5 or the 200W model. It was clear to me that the e-ham reports and review numbers for the field were better. Like most reviewers, I am also in agreement that this rig is first rate!Ergonomics are great, display is bright. Sound is excellent. It is a beautiful looking piece of equipment. For the money there is no comparison. Get one! Thanks 73

| Solid Performer |

Yaesu got it right. I waited several months to form an opinion on this rig. But after 7 months I'm still as amazed with this rig as when I got it. I purchased used from Burghardts. Upgraded from my FT-980 (no DSP). Couldn't believe the receive difference.
Had one problem out of the box. When the radio was first powered up, you would here several beeps like someone was pushing buttons on the front panel, they would stop after 20 seconds. Sent the rig back and they found the keypad had shifted. Rock solid ever sense. Great service.
Installed the INRAD roofing filter mod and key click mod for CW.
The radio has a great feel. I don't own but have compared to the PROII, PROIII and 7800. It's hard to pass up the beautiful display on the 7800. But in a blind comparison it would be hard to separate the 7800 and Field on receive. The 7800 would win but at 8K more it's to pricey. The PROIII looks great, but felt cheap, sounded good.
Xmit audio is smooth and full on the Field. I use a Heil PR-40 and Shure 444D. Both get solid reports.
Coping SSTV, PSK and RTTY is a pleasure. I drive a TL-922a with the rig just fine. Get app 1400 watts our with 100 watts drive on 40mtr SSB.
Using the IDBT, VRF and IPO features is amazing. I've taking a Q1 SSB signal and made it Q5 copy. The S meter will not be deflecting and the audio will be Q5. Receivers have really improved. With the INRAD roofing filter I operate right next to the locals in the neighborhood on the same band without a hitch. Good roofing filter.
I liked this so much I bought a used FT-920 as a backup. I think for the money, neither of these rigs can be beat. I also have the IC-706MK2. I hate it on HF. I keep it on 2m and 440 at the home QTH.
It you want a great transceiver don't pass up the Field. For the money I saved on the Field, allowed me to buy the FT-920 and 706. Very happy camper.
Would a band scope be nice, yes, but not worth the extra cash to me. I also did a side by side comparison of the PROII and the PROIII. The PROIII's noise floor and sensitivity beat the PROII. You can hear the difference. But I preferred the Field for cost and that great receive audio.
I owned or used the FT-101EE, FT-107, FT-901DM, FT-980, FT-1, Tempo-One, IC-701, IC-751, TS-530s, TS-830s, Kenwood Twins, SX101a and HT-37(Still got'em), TR-4C, R390, KWM2A. OK many older but great radios. I've not played with the Orion and with their QOS don't want to.
There are many features on the rig that make it a great radio. It doesn't lack features and is a joy to spin the knobs.
Good luck in your quest for that great rig!

| I have the 100 watts version which apparently is the one I'm making a critique on. The rig was given to me as gift and it was purchased on Feb 2005 @ HRO San Diego. One day I turned on the radio, the S meter on the main band doesn't work. I tried to reset the radio and still it didn't work so I came to conclusion that there is something wrong with the S meter. |

| Great CW rig ! |
Time Owned: 3 to 6 months. |
Bought this TRX in early February 2005 and replaced my old good TS-940. Previously, I was considering swapping my Kenwood for FT-1000D but those are overpriced for now. Not sure that Im ready to pay for used rig more than similar new one. First impression was not so good; Yaesu controls are smaller and look like cheaper and not easy to use than those are on TS-940. Really, RF power, monitor knobs are too much small for me.
Second serious drawback is SSB audio quality. There is nothing similar to my Kenwood.
Next thing annoyed me that AF/IF gain knob is placed at the left.
Last ones are shift and width knobs. It is really brain-damaged thing. I spent a week for practice and switching from Kenwood slopes tuning to those ones.
Those were quirks and other annoying stuff. Nevertheless, Ive got not only those ones for my money.
IDBT mode is great and very useful for SSB. VRF is another great impression. I forgive all quirks for those ones.
This rig shows what a diamond it is in CW. Ive installed 3 optional Inrad filters and its incomparable with my old TS-940. It wins hands down especially on 40MHz CW pileups.
Two narrow filter sets, sharp DSP filter and VRF do miracles that TS-940 doesnt.
I accommodate more and more to odd Yaesu thing and find those more useful each time I switch one my new Mark V Field.
Only one mod Im going to install Inrad roofing filter.
Another good thing my Filed is key click free, its really big deal, and first Yaesus factory installed key click mod for last fifteen years as far as I know.
Nevertheless, I still missed Kenwood SSB audio and considering to buy some TS-830 as second radio and tank of DioxIt (TS-830 owners know what is it ;) ). |

| Astonishing Radio! |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
I bought this radio from HRO in New Hamshire during a trip to US. Quite cheaper than in Europe! It came all the way back home in one piece surviving through three airport transitions.
The only thing I had to do it was to change the internal switch to 220 to mach the European mains and turn it to life. I install the Yaesu optional filters and I am very happy ever since enjoying the all over performance of the radio. The front panel is very well organized to service the novice or the expert user. I have only one complain: the small rf power knob.
The performance of this radio is almost excellent and combined with the MD200 mic releases a tremendous audio. The receiver portion is what I like most. The IDBT system of filtering does very good job especially in the digital modes I am fond of. Also the EDSP works marvellously in the phone mode. And most of all it looks and behaves like a rigorous and reliant servant. Not a sign of fatigue or overheat after hours and hours of continuous operation. I always read and hear that this rig is the DXer's and contester's first choice. Now I know the reason.
Finishing I would like to add some comments about details that gave me a very positive feeling working with: The stereo monitor in split operation is unique. The dual option powering the machine (DC and AC) with priority to dc is very good idea also. The two phone jacks is very good for guests in the shack.
Even now after years in the market I think it is a reasonable investment. Only ORION is better, but in double price!

| A winner ***** |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
Only had it 3 weeks but what a performer!
Replaced my faithful old Trio TS940s.
160 mtrs is now workable with a 132ft wire tuned against ground, with the TS940s the tv line time bases just killed the band entirely S9+ qrn the Trio could not sort out the racket. The FT1000 filtering really does the trick, cant beat the fitted Colin's mechanical filter plus the DSP stuff.
The internal ATU gets me out on 160-80 & 40 and with a TH3 beam on the tower I work everything I hear with the 100 watts.
On CW its a dream, also with PSK31. The stability is excellent even without the optional TCXO-6.
I like /P operation and will not hesitate to put it on the passenger seat as big as it is, great having the 13.8v ability.
Still learning to drive it but it was on the air wthin 10 mins. of unpacking, and was it packed! 3 layers of protection plus polystyrene. One bonus a QSL from heaven!!Handbook good and a bag of plugs for all connectors were supplied, a pity the 13.8v lead is an extra though, I do have the dc plug does anyone know the value of the fuses in the dc lead?
Went to purchase a new Kenwood (being a long standing Kenwood fan) but G3YBO at W&S guided me onto the Yausu, many thanks to him for good advice.
I have owned many transceivers over the last 44 years, all from new, and this one certainly takes the biscuit!
