Review Summary For : West Mountain Radio RIGrunner 4012
Reviews: 35MSRP: 99.95
Description:
A RIGrunner is the most convenient and safest way to connect all of your 12 volt equipment to a power source. It is a 13.8 VDC power panel that uses the excellent Anderson PowerPole connectors. Standardize all of your 12 VDC connections using the amateur radio ARES & RACES PowerPole system.

120 VAC appliances have the same plugs and sockets. Why shouldn't 12 VDC connectors be standard?

A Great Shack Accessory Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is the best DC distribution center currently available. I sold my MFJ unit and took the plunge to Anderson PowerPole connections. A simple, easy and straigtforward way to power your shack. I purchased the inexpensive crimping tool from West Mountain as well. Instructions for using the tool were simple and all connections were completed without any "learning curve." The automotive type blade fuses are also a real plus.

Great West Mountain Radio Quality Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought the 4008 (same construction but with 8 positions instead of 12) at the Huntsville Hamfest and I'm very pleased. Already an admirer of the West Mountain Radio RigBlaster PSK31 Soundcard interface (function and execution) I was not surprised that the 4008 was a winner. The Anderson PowerPole connectors make tremendous sense and are very easy to use. I solved the cable strain relief issue by using Ty-Wraps to secure the cables to the shelves to which I had mounted the 4008. A bar as previously suggested would be a nice added touch. West Mountain Radio deserves it's good reputation for solid products which are extremely well made.

Sure makes hookups easy. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Been using a Rigrunner for about 6 months now.
Best move I've made. Had all the cables in the shack converted in about an hour. (I almost went thru the horror of making my own... Glad I didn't!) Makes every DC connection in the shack a common plug. Even converted the radios in the truck and in my son's trucks and QTH. Boy its so easy to swap things around. around and not have to worry about "fudging" the connections... You cant beat it..

Needs a strain relief bar Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just installed three of these in the shack. Two are mounted vertically in the back of a 19 inch rack style console. The previous reviewer is correct about the need for strain relief.

I suggest that West Mountain offer a strain relief bar for the Rigrunner.

With the exception of this comment, it is a fine product and a huge improvement over the MFJ DC power distribution panels I was using previously!

Great Product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased the RIGrunner at the Charlotte HamFest direct from the West Mountain guys. I set it up in my shack and took the opportunity to clean up some of the rat's nest. I really like the Anderson power pole connectors must better than the banana pulg style (safer too). They are easer to install also. I like the replaceable fuses and the backlit LED to indicate when one is burned out. The over/undervoltage indicators are a plus. The only complaint is that when it is mounted on the wall, the Anderson connectors don't hold tightly enough for heaver gauge wire and it can come loose and loose connection. A few 1/2' EMT fasteners for strain relief solved that problem. Other than that one issue it is a great power distribution unit.
