Good average Headphone but Mic is way off! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I would like to add a mod to the mic element on the Pro Set 6, first of all that midrange flatness in no way can be made good with any EQ cause the response is just not there like the older HC5 element had. I had repaired an older pair of headphones for a friend who had the HC5 element and it was soo much better with an all evolving articulation in the mid range response. But what is the ham to do, carefully disassemble the boom element housing, tape the back side with some 3M tape, you cannot do the sides cause of the space but I double taped the back and once you put it back together and run it threw your radio plus use the monitor if you have one you will see that the hollowness in the middle is gone, its not as good as the HC5 was but much better than the HC6. I am sorry in the later years of Heil sound I feel Bob had taken a turn down the ESSB hams road, he had forgotten his roots with the DXers.
The Headphone part is very good but a pair of Sony MDR 7506 gives better performance as far as digging out the weak ones plus you can wear them for hours on end. You can replace those stiff pads with replacement types found on Amazon or E Bay but the mic element clearly is in NO WAY like the famous HC5. If the new owners of Heil Sound want to regain there market share they really need to get an element back in this headset like the HC5 plus use far better earpads with vented memory foam pads.
The IC headset mic is very good but its a electric condenser type which seems to have gobs of output if you have a way to send it 5V but there are mainly good only for Icom's radios.

Poor Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased the headset back in 2012 at the West Allis Swap Fest. At the time they were th only ones out there for. For using on amateur radio.
They were ok at first. But as time went on, the ear cushions fell apart. And they did not make replacements at that time.
So I had geri rig some up. Well at that time also. The whole headset, started to make all kinds of creaking sounds. To the point I could not hear the person I was talking too.
So I replaced them with a $20 pair of Koss headset. And have never used them again. I have had the Koss ones for 8 years. And I have had no problems with them.
No creaking sounds. And the ear cushions are like new. I will never own another Heil product again. They are not worth the money or my time.

Worst sounding mic element Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The Heil HC-6 has to be the utter worst sounding mic element in the Heil line....both the HC-4 and HC-5 were/are the best they offered at one time...no comparison...HC-6 is absolutely horrible sounding, muddy as heck....no equalization on this planet can help it whatsoever....bring back something more in line with the 4 or 5 element!

Comfortable, great audio and no issues Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had my Proset about 4 years now. I find them comfortable and the audio is very nice. And after 4 years, I have not had a single issue or problem with them.

Worthless Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The headset does not expand enough to be comfortable on even my 7.5 inch hat size. The sound quality is marginal. The price is too high. Buy a Sony WIRED headset in the 65 dollar range IF YOU CAN FIND THEM and you will be much happier. Even my 45 dollar Sony sounds better and is more comfortable. Heil makes Great mics but LOUSY headphones.

Too much achilles heel Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The sound is Heil Sound and the audio is Heil audio. There is no complaint from me regarding either of those two features; you will be well served.

The issue is how the ear piece attaches to the head band. It is totally defunct and is nothing more than waiting to break. After I bought mine and just out of warranty it broke and I sent it in, paying $55 for refurbishment. Now today, on the VHF CQWW contest it breaks five minutes before the contest and in the middle of a fantastic 6m opening.

Until the make this with metal parts in this tender achilles heel location between the headband and the ear piece, I do not recommend buying. I'm done with it and any Heil headset.

Defective cables Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is 2nd Heil Proset that the cable failed. The first I sent to Heil for warranty repair. 2nd after performing biopsy on cable decided to replace with a higher quality cable. I do use the headset daily, while it is only moved from desk to my head. Hardly put under any strain. On examination of Heil’s cable they use a fiber as conduit. Apparently not very good stuff and breaks down. The ground was found open and one channel showed high resistance. Otherwise the head set is light comfortable and good audio. But a headset is only as good as it weakeest part. In this case... the cable.

Mechanical D-; Audio Quality: A+ Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My Heil Pro Elite headset was purchased approximately 5 years ago. I rarely used it the first 2-3 years. Then I became a Net Control Operator for AF MARS nets. After 3 months of two nets a day, 7 days a week the plastic right ear mechanism broke. I sent it back to Heil and they repaired it at a cost to me of $40 plus approximately $10 shipping. Eight months later, the left earphone failed. I'm extremely careful with my equipment. I feel the failures were a result of poor mechanical design and poor construction materials. To the headsets credit, sonically, the headset produced excellent audio quality in both the earphones and the microphone.

I really enjoy this headset Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I could have paid nearly three times as much but I wanted to try this one first. Surprisingly I don't feel the need to spend many hundreds for a headset. The transmit audio is great on my flex 5k. They're light enough to wear for long periods. Mostly I use them on SSB and to cut background noise when on cw. I made my own cables saving a few bucks more.

Very good communications headset/mic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is the second Proset I've purchased. First was for an Icom IC-746 and this one is for my Yaesu FTdx-3000. Used initial audio equalizer settings suggested by Heil and then tweaked them just a little for a little more low end for with only equalizer on and a little more high end when the compressor is on. Get good over-the-air audio reports. Love the headphones, very comfortable.
