It works! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I borrowed one for the first time during Field Day 2005 and it worked so well I bought one meself!!

Consistently received stellar audio reports on transmit. On receive, audio was ok in earphones, not outstanding.

A Boon for the Contester/Dx'er Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I've owned my ProSet (with the HC4 element) for about 9 months or so having purchased it a few days before CQWW '04. For the past 15 +/- years I had been using a Heil BM-10 with the HC4 element. Overall, I have been very pleased with the BM-10, but never found it comfortable for prolonged CW contesting or DX'ing & instead would switch to a set of AKG K240 studio headphones.

Out of the box, I could see I was not going to regret the purchase. The first thing I noticed about the ProSet was how well constructed it was, especially the adapter for my FT-990 (purchased separately). The older BM-10 came pre-wired with the the microphone wires in heat-shrink tubing before terminating (loosely, with minimal strain relief) in the mic plug. Now, the adapter has molded strain relief and is a modular job...so it's a matter of simply switching adapters as you change rigs.

The ProSet is as comfortable if not more so than the AKG 'phones, hugging your head with enough pressure to block out outside noise (amp, computer, etc.) but not too much to be uncomfortable.

Where the ProSet really shines is in the Phase Reversal switch which changes how signals "appear" in your head. Switched "in", signals sound spread out. Switched "out", signals sound centered in your head. Not only is listening fatigue reduced (especially when contesting), but during a pileup the "spreading out" effect helps in picking out the weaker DX signal (this was especially useful during the FT5XO expedition, when signal strength varied minute by minute).

Audio reports have been consistently positive. The HC4 element gives you that extra punch....provided you correctly adjust your mic gain and/or speech processor.

At $135 (+ $20 for the adapters), the ProSet may seem a bit steep. But spend several hours contesting or DX'ing with them & you'll be happy you spent the money.

Nice Headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I use mine with a Icom 765, and I get compliments on my audio all of the time.

Audio good, but.. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a PRO-SET HC4 in 1995.
After 2 years something brake and I couldn't use it anymore.
The audio was really great and I got many comments about an excellent sound ( but also with the MC43S on my TS940).
Wearing is good, even in contest no pain after 48h.
The mic-audio is excellent but the hardware quality doesn't fit the price I think.
2004 I think about buying a new one....maybe..

Great Headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've only owned my Heil Proset for a short time, but I'm very pleased. They are comfortable to wear and I'm getting good audio reports with the HC-5.

Recently, my dog chewed the microphone off of the headset. I returned it to Heil for repair and was pleasantly surprised by the quick turn around time - roughly 2 weeks from the time I shipped them back!

As a bonus, the cost of repair price was less than I expected.

Even helps those without DSP Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I know it is a fast/short time owned review, but I must say that the Heil ProSet-5 is a great addition to the ragchewer that doesn't have DSP on their radio. I use it on an FT-840 no frills radio. Love the radio for its ANALOG sounding audio. No digital distortion at all since the thing has no DSP. It also does not have any type of noise reduction filters. Using it is just fun, but even after trying other DSP add-ons I never was sold. I had full range audiophile headphones. I put the HEILs on and WOW, the voices jump out of the background noise. Fantastic replication. The HC-5 mic element is a perfect match for the old FT-840. It also lets me keep my notepad and keyboard in front of me since I no longer need to have a mic in front of me. (A boom does that also, but this is just so nice.)

I had used HEIL ProSets at field day for years on various radios. I was impressed on how comfortable they were. I thought they might be nice on my home station. I just did not realize just how much they would help. If you want to help the audio on your old non dsp radio, the ProSet makes a great "ADD-ON"

Great Headset Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had mine for about 7 months now, and love it. I have the IC Element and use it with my IC-735. The first thing I noticed when I got it was I had fewer request to repeat my transmission in contests than I did with the Icom mic. The headphones are very comfortable as they pads rotate to fit to your head better. Finally, the boom for the mic's movability makes it easy to place the mic exactly where I want it.

Good but... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
It was a really great headphones but the audio
was very similar to my stock Icom HM-36 microphone.(HC-4 cartrige) It was so close that
anyone could not tell what mic i was using...
The price tag is very,very high here in Canada ;
i paid over 250$ for the proset + adapter cable.
At this price ,i would expect a more spectacular
result...Also,i did not like the light plastic feel.Overall an OK product but very overpriced.

Fantastic! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've owned my Heil Pro for over 5 years. I finally had to replace the earpads a couple of months ago. For $14, it's as good as new. I have the DX element and I often get comments about the qualty of my audio. I'm currently using the Pro with an IC-746 but have used this set with Kenwood and Tentec rigs with the same results. I added a windscreen to the microphone to knock down the noise caused by the air moving through the element. I can't say enough good things about this product and the service provided by HeilSound. I don't even own another microphone for my rig.
