Very Nice Headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I understand the earlier models of the Proset wern't made very well, however, this is not the case with the one I just got. It is a nicley made and comfortable piece of equipment.

Great head set work mobile as well as base Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Good dependable headset I've used it mobile while driving on winter Ice roads, used on 3 different base radios and alway got good audio reports. Would buy another in a flash but this one has survived a lot of abuse setting in pickup at -30 and then being dropped when I was taking it out no problems so far, may well outlast me.

Excellent! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I've been using the Heil Proset 4 now for about 5 months. I'm very pleased with it.

I use it mainly for contests but also for general Dxing. Very comfortable to wear, after a 4 hour shift doing the WPX SSB my ears felt fine.

Best memory was calling into a 4S7 pileup on 18MHz and he said "You have excellent audio, the best I've heard so far, what are you using?" After that comment I was very pleased.

So far no sign of poor build quality as others have mentioned, if I needed another pair I would buy one!

Terrible build quality Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought the Pro headset a few years ago and they have virtually disintegrated. I take care of my equipment and it has not seen a lot of service and I have to say I was surprised at the lack of quality control.

The plastice headset (both sides) broke and were dangling from the wires. I ended up gluing the hole mess together. The earpad covering also disintegrated.

The concept of a boom headset is a good one and I do like the mic elements, but personally I would never buy another Heil headset.

Follow-up: Fantastic service! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I wrote a complaint about these 'phones quite a while ago. Since then, I've had the pleasure of working directly with the company to address the issues that I've encountered with this product. I have to comment here that their service has been FABULOUS. Really top-drawer stuff.

In addition, I've been able to try out the new Pro-Set Plus (see my review under that product's heading). I feel that Dave Heil and his crew have fully redeemed themselves on the construction side of things. It's tough to imagine a better headset than the Plus.

I've owned two of these sets. I really love the punchy audio (I got the contest element) in the contests.

Both of these sets fell apart (one earpiece came off each set) within a couple months of normal (pretty lightweight) use.

I was SO disappointed by the first failure, but liked the audio enough to buy a second set. What a mistake... Looks like back to a desk mike for me. It's a pity that I have to recommend against buying these.

DX BLOW TORCH SPECIAL Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently purchased the HEIL Proset at a hamfest The model purchased features two earphones and the HC4 mic element. I have found these to be perfact for contesting (CQWW-Phone) and pileups.

With careful adjustment of carrier shift, mic gain, and compression the HC4 becomes an unsurpassible force of contention in "radio sport". It emphasizes being understood vs. sounding pretty. The headset set up with a foot switch keeps your hands free and the mic at a consistant distance from your mouth.

If ragchew is your thing, Isuggest another set up. Perhaps, the HC5 element would do nicely? Ragchewing is my evil twin pursuit in SSB on non-contesting days.

...hmm, Chameleon Proset ...with "quick element interchanges"? Multiple personalities

The Young Lady, go... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The young lady, go ahead!!!
That is what I often hear when I break a crowded
pile up, and I am shure they are calling me, then
I reply EA6LP, whishing anybody who knows me
protest for this abnornal advantage given to me
by the gentleman at the other part of the world. Really I am a man with a common voice. They are good in pile up as you can see
I use the DX version with little hear cups 5 years without no other problem that the ear cushions shift a litte bit to the rear of his plastic mounts due to skidding glue! They have fallen to the ground may times. I can wear them
hours and hours without no pain. The foot switch is fantastic, I can“t imagine a contest without them. Some folks have so heavy hands that you give them a battle tank and they still claim you
for weak material!

Good/Bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The audio is excellent. I have the DX element and use it for contesting and DX pileups. Real nice audio punch. The quality is a different subject. My wires are loose and I will need to rebuild and rewire it. I give the audio a 5 and the quality a 1. Average is a 3. Because of good audio I would buy it again.

Great with Icom mic element Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is my fourth Heil headset and have been pleased with all of them, the others are two of the now discontiued Pro Micors and an HS-706.

Since I made the switch from Yaesu to Icom radios (756 and 756Pro)a couple of years ago, I have not been real happy with the operation of the DX element on those radios. So, I decided to try the Icom element. The DX element works, but Iwanted to see if the new element worked better. Also, I wanted to try the full ear coverage of the Proset.

The Icom element is an electret element designed to operate with the Icom radios. The adjustments on the radio for the mic gain and compression are more "normal" than with the DX element.

I have good operating experience with all of my Heil headsets. One of the Pro Micros has survived several Field Days without any problems so I expect similar service from the Proset.

Customer survice from Heil has been excellent. They were very helpful when I was setting up the DX element headset for my Icoms and quickly answered several questions I had concerning the operation of the Icom element with my 756Pro.

good products with good customer service to back it up.

Nice product Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the Proset for 4 years and have to say they are the most comfortable that I have worn to date. They are not the most rugged but then again, we aren't supposed to abuse them. The ear pads cover the entire ear and it is very light on your head. it can be worn all day. I use the HC-4 element along with a TS-850 and have to say it's a nice combination. The "DX" element along with Kenwood transmit audio and my naturally deep voice seems to get good audio reports (unsolicited). I would probably pick another headset for emergency or field use that is constructed a little better. I also tried the Micro Heil headset and it is junk. It was uncomfortable to say the least. Perhaps some of the reviews are aimed towards that product? 73.. Matt
