So-so Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The ProSet is cheaply made I have had to glue mine together several times. The microphone elements are so so but not as good as the old standard of excellence the D-104. The audio from the headset is excellent for communications. It is great if you are a contester or use VOX, otherwise get a D-104 and the Kenwood HS-5 headset.

Great Product Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have used a ProSet with a HC-5 for about 8 years two to three hours a day. A Pro Set with VOX is light years ahead of the rest, the ONLY way to operate. I have replaced the cordset and the right plastic arm but only after 7 years of daily use, it was easy and cheap. Stop whining.

Top vox! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have both Heil headsets the Proset and the BM-10. Both have worked fine with VOX in Kenwood TS-570, TS-440, TS-430, TS-830 and Yaesu FT-840.

Does not get any better!

Great Headset Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I cannot figure out how someone would not love this headset. We use 11 of them at the multi multi station. They work great! All with VOX!
Once you set the controls it is super smooth operation. The best audio on the band comes from Heil!

Works Great with VOX Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use my Heil Proset with the HC-4 cartridge with my Icom 756Pro, Icom 275A and Icom 475A all the time. The VOX works impecably. I've owned the Heil Proset for nearly 10 years. Great equipment, works as advertised, and I get numerous unsolicited comments on the "outstanding quality of the audio"! Comfortable to use after hours on the air....recommended without hesitation.

I've owned the Proset by Heil for nearly 7 years - no problems at ALL with the quality - the ear pieces feel great, very comfortable for long hours of use, and seal out external sound very well. I have numerous unsolicited audio reports with the headset using my Icom 756Pro.

Can't use with vox Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I borrowed the Micro Pro headset/boom mic for the CQWW contest and tried to use it with vox. From the pic in te AES catalog it uses the same type of mount as the Pro setup. I carefully set my vox and mic gain controls but whenever I would move my head the vox would kick in due to the plastic-on-plastic vibration of the boom mount. By that I mean where the boom connects to the headphone there is some play and that is transmitted acoustically to the mic. I found the set to be unusable. I would greatly prefer a desk mic mounted on a boom and use regular headphones. Fortunately I didn't buy the set and I am happy to return them to their owner. 73

Not worth it! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased a Heil Pro headset with HC5 element a while ago, based on a New Product Review i read about them. The review included stellar remarks from members of a major DXpedition at that time. I agree, the Pro headset was is unbeatable when used for less than a month, after that, they start to disintegrate! I, like many others, lost the right ear piece, (which I was able to patch back to use with some elastic adhesive), then the headphone outer lining wore out, then the foam started to fall apart and now the phones are picking up RF on 20 & 17M SSB, creating totaly distorted SSB. Perhaps a shielded (and coiled!) cord would help this situation. Anyway, I do not believe these phones are worth their price. I am looking to replace my boom headset and would appreciate any feedback or recommendations!

Piece of junk Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
OWNED A PROSET 5 FOR ABOUT A YEAR. THE TWO EARCUPS FELL OF THE HINGED PORTION OF THE HEAD STRAP AND TORE THE CONNECTION OFF. TRIED TO REPAIR BUT FOUND THE PLASTIC HINGE WAS CRACKED. WORKED MANY PEOPLE STATESIDE FROM HAWAII AND COMPARED WITH ICOM SM-20 MIC. WITH THE GAIN ADJUSTED FOR EACH WITH ABOUT THE SAME MIC LEVEL OUTPUT, ALL OF MY TEST STATIONS (10) SAID THE ICOM MIC SOUNDED BETTER - CLEARER, MORE BASS, CLEANER; AND, MORE COPYABLE THAN THE HEIL PROSET.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A DESK MIC SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR BRAND OF RADIO, E.G., ICOM, KENWOOD, TEN-TEC, ETC., AND BUY A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES LIKE AKG, SONY, KOSS.

YEAH I KNOW, THE BOOM MIC AND FOOT/HAND SWITCH IS CONVENIENT BUT THAT WON'T HELP SOUND AND/OR SPEECH QUALITY NOR WILL IT FALL APART AFTER A YEAR'S USE, AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES.

Super Mic bad Headphones Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have a Heil Proset for a few months. The mic is the HC5 element which sounds perfect. But the headphones gives a very poor audio quality. I have a Sennheiser audio headset and the audio quality is 10 times better then the Heil proset. I wonder how the HM-10 headphones sound?

make sure we're not talking about the pro-micro Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a Proset when they were introduced at Dayton several years ago and other than the material finally flaking off the pads they are some of the most comfortable I've worn. In the past I've worn them for 12-14 hours at a time with no discomfort. I did recently buy the Pro-micro since AES had them on sale for 49.99 ( thats more than 1/2 off!) and now I can see why. They are very uncomfortable. I see they are discontinued so perhaps Bob realized they were not up to Heil standards ( just guessing here) but when I read K8ACs comments about not covering the ear and painful, he exactly described the Pro-micro. I'd be curious to hear from K8AC exactly what model he does have. I'd also wish we'd either convert the scale from 1-5 to 1-10 or give decimal points here because I'd really rate this a 9 out of 10 or a 4.6 out of 5. Mine has the HC-4 mic and I've has really good comments about the audio. I've dropped them and they have held up, they have been used and maybe even abused and they still keep ticking, but sorry the MICRO version cant compare. 73 Jamie WW3S
