I am some what happy with my proset plus.
only problem after a time the weght of the foot peddle and the head set conection tend to pull down the wires by thr radio an short yhem out had to rap them tight near the radio with duck tape what I need is a plastic sleev that fits up there or Heil could make the adapter assery a lot lounger like five feet then no strain on the wires by the radio .

Mono headsets??? Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Intersting list of complaints. My past Heil headsets have lost or deteriorated earpieces over time during my years of heavy contesting. Serious abuse and they have all held up well.

To bad the ear phone on my Pro Set Plus lost contact on one side. I don't enjoy mono-sound.

I rate this model very low because I spent very high. I also know from Hams on the air that I'm not alone.

I'm sure the wire that either broke or came loose might be of high quality. But why not make sure it is attached?

When it worked, I never experienced a finer headset. Too bad. I would send it in but with the shipping charges, the headache of proving warranty, and then waiting for it, I'll pass.

Roll the dice. If you get one that works, you can read the reviews that it works great. Just remember the other side of the fence-

Very good Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I'm not much for SSB but having the hands-free headset with correctly adjusted VOX is pretty neat.

No negatives for me, the headset seals well over my big ears, the boom is nicely adjustable and stays where I put it, not too heavy and correct communications frequency response.

Took it to FD this year, everyone loved it.

Works Great /Sounds Great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Look 8 items down and you will see a remark from Dick, Wb0dul, and I am one to know what he is talking about. March of 2003 we had a blizzard here in Colorado Springs and I was on my way to work and when I couldn't see the road anymore I decided work could do without me so I called Dick and asked if I could come over and play with his radio. He has a Yaesu FT-920 with a Heil headset and boom mic and he told me I could play with his radio all I wanted. I put the headset on and the only other headsets I've ever used was in the Navy. I am a retired US Navy Radioman so the type of headsets I've used were military types and they don't have any padding at all. As I was playing with Dicks radio I put on his Heil headset and all I can say is WOW what a difference. I had to get used to the foot switch. Well I liked his FT-920 and Heil headset and footswitch so much that when I got home I called HRO and ordered my own FT-920 and Heil headset and footswitch. I've enjoyed that combination alot and my wife doesn't have to tell me to turn down the radio or quit yelling into the mic. She doesn't hear the radio or me talking and we are both happy. So I am here to tell you if you want a happy homelife then Heil is the way to go.

No problems here Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well, first off, I have owned the proset + for 3 years, 7 have NO problems with the workmanship. I have made about 25,000 contest QSO's, & several thousand ragchew QSO's with this, & have not broken it. Might be that some of us are a bit more careful with them than others.

MECHANICAL PROBLEMS Time Owned: more than 12 months.
MANY YEARS AGO WHEN HEIL HIT THE MARKET WITH HIS FIRST HEADSET I PURCHED ONE FROM AMATEUR AND ADVANCED IN DELAWARE. WHEN I GOT HOME I READ THE "POOP SHEET" ESSENTIALLY IT SAID "WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION IS NO GOOD - - - BUT HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO WHEN IT BREAKS." NEEDLESS TO SAY I RETURNED IT TO THE STORE IMMEDIATLY FOR A FULL REFUND. SEEMS LIKE THE MECHANICAL END OF THE PRODUCT IS STILL POOR.

WHO IS MAKING A GOOD STURDY HEADSET AT A REASONABLE PRICE?

Poor Quality Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Dittos to the other reviews mentioning the high prices and overall poor quality of the headsets, particularily the mic boom. This is the third Heil headset I have owned and it will absolutely be the last unless a significant improvement in quality is made. I appreciate everything Bob does to promote our hobby but am tired of spending hard earned bucks to purchase headsets whose earpads separate from the harness and where the boom constantly drops to your chin. Bob, for the price, you can certainly do better!!

Worthy Investment Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Set is used on an ICOM 706MkIIG and has the iC element along with the DX element. In just ragchewing and on-the-air testing, which is done from my mobile (at rest), the receiving station can hear the difference. The iC element is quite full bodied and strong as where the DX element is on the weak side when not changing the mic gain. This was expected as the output of the HC-4/5 elements are designed low. When I set up the radio as I would for my HM-10, the DX element does it job - punches through quite well. I went and did a self-test using my laptop mic-in and earphone out. The audio difference is quite pronounced. The iC element is very wide-ranged and clean and took me by surprise at the quality of the audio. Of course the DX element is lower in output and biased toward the higher end of the spectrum. I have had no problems with the boom dropping, as reported by other commenters here. The only issue that I had with the mic was getting the mic element in the proper position, which I equate to dialing in the seat height and position on a road bicycle. The weight is somewhat substantial and you can feel it when you pick it up. When you wear it, it is not noticible. Would I recommend it to another ham, yes I would. Besides, the sound of the headset playing just music from my CD player is excellent.

About the lousy Boom Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I agree about the boom flopping all over the place. I took the rubber band from off of a bunch of Broccolli I bought from the store and put it over the earpiece which had the boom. It fixed the problem.
But I should NOT have had to do this with a >$100 headset...
I like the comfort and sound, but I definitely will NOT buy another.
