A Quality Product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have been licensed since 1962. Over the span of those 40 years I have owned a lot of different types of equipment. Since I had recently purchased a Yaesu FT-920 and a Yaesu FT-100D, I wanted a microphone that would work with both radios. The Yaesu MD-100 Desk Mic I purchased was good, but it will not work with the FT-100D. Enter Bob Heil and his ProSet Plus. Since I don't have an amplifier and only use verticals I wanted to have the best I could buy in order to get the "edge" in a pileup. Well, a friend let me try his Traveller Headset with the Full Range Mic Element from Heil. I used it a little and liked it, but I wanted something for Rag Chewing as well as for DX chasing and contesting. So, I ordered the Heil ProSet Plus. It arrived the next day, just in time for the CQ WW SSB Contest that weekend. Impressed isn't a good enough word for this product. Awesome is closer. When I called stations in pileups I was heard. I didn't get through on the first try all the time, but I sure didn't have to wait like I used to. I was using the FT-920, Processor Turned on, with the DX Element selected. The results I've had with the ProSet Plus has been incredible. A good friend and neighbor, K0UIV, Del, stopped by after I got my ProSet Plus. When he left he went home and called HRO in Denver and ordered one. Two satisfied customers.

Another PLUS is the Reverse Phase headphones. I've never owned a headset with earphones like these. They are comfortable on my ears, cloth covered (removeable if you don't like the soft cloth covering)so there is no sweating while wearing for extended periods of time. (I also wear hearing aids and many headsets cause hearing aids to "whistle" because of feedback. The ProSet Plus is the perfect answer if you have to wear a hearing aid). The reverse phase switch on the side of one of the earphones is a "miracle switch" to say the least. In one position the sound comes in like just about any other headset, but cleaner. In the other position the signals you are listening to seem like they go right to the center of the brain. If there is a weak signal you are going to pull it in.

This is without a doubt one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever purchased for use in any of the "shacks" I have had over the years. It's worth every cent that Bob Heil gets for it and more. It works with my FT-920 and also the FT-100D whether I am operating SSB/FM or AM. (You will need the necessary Yaesu adapters for each radio). I also purchased the foot switch and was really not sure I would like using a foot switch. But, I have not had any luck setting the VOX on the FT-920 to operate properly, and the foot switch is a blessing. I use it on both radios even though the VOX works fine on the FT-100D. I find I like the foot switch better.

The only problem I have is that the small foam cover over the end of the attached microphone piece falls off occasionally. I think maybe it could be made a bit smaller for a tighter fit, and possibly a tad longer, but it's a minor thing so I'm not making an issue out of it. Everything else about this product is perfect and I am completely satisfied.

I dropped Heil Sound an e-mail to ask exactly what the Reverse Phasing really was and I received a brief explaination from Bob Heil himself. We have exchanged several e-mails and he has been a perfect gentleman. I don't foresee any problems, but I'm sure that Bob will see to it that they are resolved if something happens.

If you are thinking of adding a piece of equipment to your ham shack, give a Heil product real serious consideration. You won't regret it.

Thanks for a great product, Bob.

Outstanding. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recommend anyone considering a headset mic/combo to consider the new Pro Set Plus. They are indeed tops. I did a more detailed review under headphones category.

Better construction Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Owned all previous headsets that Heil marketed. and by far this one is the best. Boom keeps coming down inspite of internal adjustments as outlined in the one page manual. Contacting Bob, he will be sending me some cupped washers to install. Hopefully this will fix the problem. The rubber foam windscreens are a joke, keep falling off inspite of double-back tape. Bob sent me another one after the original finally ripped apart. Suggest it should be abit longer, may help it stay on. Also didnt get the ic unit, and felt the drive a bit on the light side with my 756pro-II. When questioning Bob, he suggested I just increase the drive abit more (beyond 10 o'clock- mine usually at 12 o'clock position.) I believe this is not an issue at least with the Pro II.

A Definite Keeper !! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I picked up the Heil Pro Set Plus IC for my 756pro and my 820H's to use (1) when contesting and (2) for daily AF MARS nets that last 2 hrs long. First, the head set is very comfortable. Second, when you contesting multi and are sitting next to someone you don't want to be distracted. This head set seals you off from the rest of the world. Third, the tx audio reports have been outstanding. Granted, I put this through a w2ihy 8 band eq with the noise gate adjusted. I use the wide ic cart and push up on the highs to get more punch without giving up the "Barry White" low audio frequencies. Lastly, the Rx audio is of high fidelity quality and can separate the noice from the station. Phase reverse is a nice feature

In fact I like it so much, I put away the SM-20 ICOM mic (most likely to be posted here for sale soon).

This is a keeper in my books!!!

Great... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have 2 pair and really like them. They are comfortable and the xmitt and rcv audio is great

When I contest the guest op's like them a lot..and when you wear a headset for hours on end they better be good..

New life to old rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This mic will bring back life to older Icom rigs. I have the proset plus ic, I use with my old faithfull Icom 751A, this rig has been so loyal and a good friend I could never seem to part from it, but I wanted to continue using it, but needed something to spruce it up. This mic was well worth the money, it sounds so much better than the mic that came with the Icom HM-36. The first mic I bought was faulty, called Heil, and Bob was a great help. I returned it to HRO, who exchanged it for a new one, and "WOW" what a difference.
Thanks to Bob and HEil for making something that really works.
