RTTY terminal MSDOS software for PC Soundcards Time Owned: unknown months.
RITTY v3.06 is the latest version of what is certainly the finest RTTY terminal decoder/encoder software available in the amateur market. It's extremely popular with contesters looking for no-compromise performance. It's decoder is the best I've used out of all the ones available in the amateur market (including the standalone boxes by KAM, AEA, MFJ, etc.), with many features not found in any other package, including some "reverse processing" and other neat tricks that attempt to recover the true data from the garbled. For guys who love to tweak settings, its got lot of them you can use to optimize performance with your particular radio and performance needs. However, it's Autotune feature is really what sets it apart from all the other products. RITTY Autotune automatically tunes in any RTTY signal that's within your RX passband in a split-second by shifting the sound card's DSP processor to match up with RX'ed tones. In addition, you can enable TX autotune as well, allowing you to match perfectly match those Rx'ed tones when you TX back using AFSK generated from the same sound card! This means the operator on the other end wont have to touch his dial to RX you either! This performance is invaluable for contests, where every second adds up to the difference between winning and whining! While it can be used as a stand-alone terminal program for RTTY, it's function is fairly basic. It's true value comes to light when used in TSR mode in combination with RTTY by WF1B or NA by K8CC for logging. Both of these programs have been designed to use RITTY as a "front end" for RTTY contesting. RITTY will work with most "Soundblaster compatible" PC sound cards and can be used in a Windows DOS shell. The only downsides to this software are it's limited terminal function as a stand-alone program, it's DOS (not Windows) software, and for some, it's cost at $100 is a bit steep. It's available direct from Brian, K6STI, at k6sti@n2.net . I highly recommend using either NA by K8CC or RTTY by WF1B along with it for all but casual QSO's. Their web sites are NA: www.contesting.com/datom and RTTY: www.wf1b.com .
