i run the kenwood 570dge and these great little radios are bullet proof,i use mine for portable use and what more could i ask for:great mod, atu, awesome reciever and so user friendly.on the used market these great radios can be brought for as little as £400(my friend paid that)and his was boxed in mint condition, you get a lot of radio in a small package and this is the third 570 ive owned and there just faultless.i find the filtering in mine great and the dsp works a treat. the 570 must be one of the best budget radios on the market so i find it hard to believe that one review can only give it 1 out of 5 but everyone has there own opinion...

I have owned my TS570D for over two years now. It has never given me any trouble at all. Not sure how the last reviewer can give it 1/5, there are over 50 top reviews here! I would give it more than 1/5 even if it did not work, it's a great looking radio. Just for the record, it does offer considerably better performance than the 817, which does what it is designed to do very well.
I predominantly use the 570 for SSB and PSK 31. I enjoy great tx and rx in both modes and I find the DSP helps to resolve difficult signals. I am no great CW operator, but like the CW tune feature and the selection of filters that are standard. These reduce the passband without degrading the signal.
The radio has great ergonomics and the menu system is very comprehensive - not difficult to navigate at all.
The tuner has not failed to tune anything I have connected yet and is quick.
In short, I do not see myself swapping this in the near future. I am a very happy customer.

| good price but poor |

It's true, this one doesn't cost much for a tx with tuner and keyer functions but...
We bought this one for our club station (price!) and after a year nobody seems really satified (not the CW guys nor the SSB ones).
Reception is really poor although the 500Hz filter. Never seen on other transceivers (what a difference with the ts870 !). I made the comparison on reception with the qrp FT817 and the last one wins on ssb and cw !
We also remarked that at this moment many 570s are for sale as occasion. Who wants to sell a good transceiver ???

| $1800 rig for less than $1000. |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| Kenwood is running a promotion on the TS-570 now so the street price is around $870. What a deal!!! I just picked mine up at a local hamfest. I was looking at the TS-570D or the ICOM 746. Unfortunately, ICOM decided to discontinue the 746 when they came out with the PRO version and they no longer have a rig in the same price range as the TS-570. Big mistake. I'm sure the fancy DSP stuff on the 746PRO is great but is it worth an extra $1000? The TS-570 is a lot of radio for the price. This is the first HF rig I've owned that has a microprocessor inside so of course I'm having lots of fun with all the new bells and whistles. Transmit, receive, ergonomics, and workmanship are all top notch. The manual is easy to follow and the rig was on the air working DX in minutes. If you are shopping for an HF rig in this price range, I don't think there is a better deal available right now. |

This was my second HF radio that I have owned and its just excellent. Very good RX, the beat cancel is great, NR is ok - it sounds a bit funny when on but works and does a good job. Has all the main needed functions - processor, vox, pre amp, att, internal tuner(upto 3:1), direct frequency entry, 2 antenna sockets and lots more(have a look at the manual). I've just come back from doing the CQWPX contest where the radio was on for the full 48 hours without being switched off, no probelms at all. It didn't get too hot, we didn't have any extra filters installed which was a pain but with the beat cancel, DSP and IF shift we could get rid of just about any qrm. I use it for SSB phone and PSK31 via the acc port, get the output levels corret and off you go, easy. It has a nice big display, big enough buttons, just about everything that you need to adjust day to day is on the front panel. Although there is a menu, you just go through and setup what you want then just leave most of it. There is a button on the front that you can set for access to one of the menus for quick access, so if you are constantly changing something thats in the menu you just assign it to this button and then when you need to change it just press it and adjust, no need to go through the menu.
For the price this radio is very good, if your looking for a good HF radio and don't want to pay lots look at the 570. Go to the Kenwood web site and take a look at the manual to see everything that it can do.

| Still think it's great |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I've had a couple of months with my TS570 now and my initial enthusiasm for this radio has not waned (see my earlier review). It isn't perfect but then again what is? My complaints are minor:
1. Direct frequency entry via the keypad is not intelligent. So that for say 1950kHz you have to enter 01950. I suppose it's my fault for prefering the LF bands but it could've been made switchable.
2. It isn't possible to zero the RIT easily. You have to wind it back to zero beat again the next time you use it. I don't have to use it that often but it's just annoying to find it's 1kHz the wrong side of a signal when I turn it on. I think it should zero itself when the radio is turned off or the knob should be bigger and easier to turn.
3. Only two filter slots is too restrictive. 3 or 4 would be ideal. If you use both CW and SSB you can't have a narrow SSB filter and a narrow CW filter in the rig at the same time. It's not a practical solution to pull them out and switch each time you want to use the radio either.
4. No manual notch on the DSP. Sometimes you need a notch on CW too. The inbuilt auto notch is good for SSB but does make it sound a bit strange. Sometimes it just doesn't lock onto a strange sounding noise and it would be nice to be able to set it manually.
5. You cannot load the CW memories with a straight key or via the computer interface. I can't use/don't have an iambic key but I'd like to load a CQ call into the memory. The CW memories are a bit short too.
6. It would be nice to be able to set different power levels for different bands and have the radio remember them. And it would be nice to be able to set different modes for sub bands so that it changed from CW to SSB as you moved from one part of the band to another.
7. Different settings for VOX delay and CW key delay would be nice. I like a rapid drop off for voice but my CW is slow enough that with this setting it switches back to RX in between letters/words and thus the first dit or dah of each character is chopped. I have to use the manual send button instead.
8. It would be great to be able to flash the software with updates off the Internet too. Most of the niggles I have could be fixed in the software and it would be great to be able to get a download and fix them. I have software on the PC that does this, even a digital camera and satellite TV that have regular software updates. So why not radios?
I still think that for the money you would be hard pushed to better this radio. And as you can see from the above, many of the things I don't like are down to personal preference or are common to many radios. It really is a great performer. With a radio this good it's a shame that it doesn't have the VHF/UHF bands on it too but then it would be quite a different radio.
Cheers,
Russell. |

Ok,
I read the review down below comparing the TS570 to the FT-847......what planet does this ham live on? I have, and have had, a lot of rigs. For the money, and I repeat the MONEY, the TS570G is wonderful. It has professional sound, excellent sensitivity, and nice filtering with 6 meters to boot. I bought mine for $1,399 in July of 2001, then brought it to France to my father in laws for IARU contest, and was very pleased. I have a FT847 and a IC756 Pro to compare it to- The rig performs more like the 756Pro versus the FT847. I find the FT847 to be ok, but suffers from user confusion due to DSP controls that seem to work against each other vs the ease of the front panel of the TS570. The Icom 756Pro hears more with an experienced user, but to the beginner, and/or those looking for simple rig compared to one with almost too many bells and whistles, I'd suggest for the $$$ the TS570 to either of these radios. The FT847 is a great satellite radio, but for it being a hot rx compared to the sensitivity of the 847- I don't hear it- In fact, I prefer the TS570 on any band it has in common with the FT847. If the FT847 is the only rig you own, I'm sure it does ok- but it's not a TS570 on HF or 6M. Most reviews on the 570 rig have been very positive- I think it has to be one of the highest rated rigs on EHam- |

ive just brought my 570dg off a good friend and i have nothing but praise for this little radio,2nd hand you can pick one up quite cheap now if you shop around and they perform great..on the rx side of things i honestly think in my opinion that the 570 is one of the best radios on recieve i have owned and im compareing it some of the other radios ive owned -kenwood 850,940,icom 765,746 so dont worry if you think it wont be in that class of radios on the rx side ,now to the tx side i run my settings at-mic gain 50,proc 15,tx equalizer off and im given good audio reports and told that the clarity is excellent from the radio.the 570dg as plenty of functions and 50 odd menus to keep you going at but dont be scared off by this,i have found this radio to be very user friendly and easy to get set up and operate and brilliant fun to use.i always liked and loved my old 850 kenwood but i tell my radio friends i own the newer version of that radio now in my eyes......the 570dg |

Great performance both Rx & Tx! The AT Tune and EQ work flawlessly. Some people blame the radio when they do not know how to operate it properly and/or have poor antenna.

I believe the TS-570D(G) is one of the best radios if not the best radio on the market at any price. I can't see expending any more!
The B.C. button (Beat Cancel) is worth its weight in gold when the "chupacabras" start tunning in the frequency.
This one and my TS-830S are going to be with me for a long time!
