Much Needed for Pegasus/Jupiter Owners Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I first became acquainted with Carl's control program for the Pegasus/Jupiter right after 9/11. I had purchased a Pegasus and was experiencing numerous program faults when trying to run MixW2 sound card software. After consulting with other Pegasus/Jupiter owners who were having no problems running their transceivers, I skeptically ordered the N4PY control program. Not only did it stop the program faults, using it gave me a much better insight into how the transceiver worked. Carl has upgraded my copy six times, and believe me, it just gets better all the time!

Thanks, Carl, for making me feel in control!

Intuitive, robust and Just a lot of fun. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I don't know if I had the first version, but I have experienced many iterations of N4PY's Ten-Tec Pegasus/Jupitor Software, and it just gets better. Carl listens to all of the users and does his best to make this software do much more than most of us thought just software could do. I love to use my Pegasus with N4PY software because Carl has made it so easy to taylor it to fit everyones individual needs. In the latest version (2.0) almost all of the paramaters can be configured within the program. For folks who are not comfortable modifying ini files, this version should make them very happy.

I use both a six and two meter transverter with the Pegasus and operation couldn't be easier with this software. Since Carl has expanded the effective range of the transceiver, you can work all of two meters (including the FM repeater portion) with the software.

Another greal feature Carl has included in ver. 2.0 is the ability to use ILG shortwave database which provides point and click memory input for all SW stations worldwide.

I don't have room to talk about all of the features of the program, but I will unequivocally say that if you have a Pegasus or Jupiter and are not using N4PY software, then you are not fully experiencing the full pleasure of owning your radio. N4PY Software continues to make the Pegasus the favorite radio in my shack.

The newest version (2.0) of the N4PY software is outstanding. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently got back into amateur radio after a short absense by the purchase of a Ten Tec RX-320. I was so pleased by the receiver that I stepped up to a Pegasus in the first week. Before the Pegasus arrived I had already discovered the limitations of the Ten Tec software for the 320.

I had originally purchased the 320 with the DXtra software but after downloading and trying 6 different 3rd party software packages dumped the DXtra and moved on to the N4PY program.

When the Pegasus arrived, I once again tried every software package finding the N4PY outpaced the competition hands down.

The performance of the rig is contained inside the actual hardware and I doubt there is much a software programmer can do to improve it. What they can do however is make the rig easier to operate. With the Ten Tec and other programs you find yourself doing multiple clicks (some cumbersome) to complete one operation. Carl (N4PY) has thought most if these things out and give the operator the ability to do many of these functions in one click.

As near as I can tell the improvements with the N4PY latest version are limited to on the fly configuration changes (instead of manually editing an .ini file), export functions, and a couple minor improvements. Any of the above make it a WORTHWHILE upgrade.

I also bought the remote knob for the rig and once again the software exploits every possible feature available.

I have included a link to a screen shot of the program with the band scope running and the settings screen open. This particular rig is running a RX-320 as a sub receiver. This allows dual receive and band scope operation while listing with the NP4Y software.

Do I have any complaints? Not really. There are a few things I would personally change but I need to remember that there are huge limitations to what a programmer can do. There is only so much control that is built into the rigs interface. Two things on my list would be a marker of some type (different colored line maybe) that moves with the VFO on the band scope while the bad scope is sweeping. And the option of a different style meter. I find the stock Ten Tec style hard to read. An option to reconfigure the looks of the rig with colors, ect would be nice too.

This is a must have for anyone that owns a 320 or Pegasus.

Great Program...Many Bells and Whistles... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used this program since Conception...I have had very few too no problems with Carls' software, and when I did Carl was there to set me STRAIGHT...Most of my problems was HEAD SPACE and TIMING (ME)...Carl is 100% behind his product and updates the program several times a year...When he went to charging for the program I was hesistant to pay for a product that Ten-Tec supplies one for FREE, but I must admit after Carl started charging the program only got BETTER...The program gives so many options on the front panel that I cannot mention all of them...The one I like BEST so far is the removing of the Frequency Knob and using Buttons to change the frequency...You have to try this program and use it for a few months to really enjoy it to the fullest...You have the option of N4PY or Ten-Tec file transfer for the flexibility for Logging Program file transfer...Some Logging Programs only uses the Ten-Tec mode of radio control and Carl provides both...You cannot ask for much more...I own most of the logging programs that have radio control and have used N4PYs'program with them all...I will say this Carl supports the program completely not like some of the Logging programs I have...Carl will not give you the RUN AROUND about a problem you have...You email him about the problem and most of the time within that day you have a solution...One thing you must do is PRINT OUT the help files and READ THEM to become familiar with the program...YOU MUST READ THE HELP FILES THAT COMES WITH THE SOFTWARE...You can bring it up through the program of Print it out...It does come with a very nice Instruction manual for printing...Al Gavenas WA6IQD and Art Trampler help with the document by editing it for printing...If you own a Pegasus (I) can only speak for the Pegasus I donnot own a Jupitor you really should give this program a try...W4RSD
