Very good vertical. Works very good at 80,40,30,15,10 with very low swr :lower than 2:1!
Very high swr at 20 m. (If someone knows what can I do, I will appreciate any help). Handles up to 600W with no problem. Better than any other vertical I have use before. |

| This vertical antenna is mounted at four feet from ground using a neighborhood wide chain link fence as its only counterpoise (No buried radials etc.). It is amidst a group of silver maple trees and a huge cottonwood. In spite of that, I have worked all over the world from SE Mich. with only 100 watts. I give the same reports that I get. Its concept is simple-a base loaded vertical and the instructions make no bones about a proper counterpoise. It is well constructed, easy to assemble, and easy to tune. I have added the 160 coil and even had comments that it is an excellent signal from "just" a Butternut Vertical! I have owned other verticals and this one wins hands down. It is the only vertical that I recommend if one needs to have a vertical. |

| Big Surprise,Big Signal |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I installed the HF9V in the front yard using twelve 50 foot radials on the ground. The first thing that I noticed was that my Icom 775 was loading to 210 watts. This was 30 watts better than the multi band vertical that the HF9V replaced. I tried all the upper bands and had good results, both on transmit and receive. About 10PM local time I tried 80 Meters. What a BIG SURPRISE. I made one call and had a pile up, or a better discription might be a train wreck. The tenth call was Cape Town South Africa, only 7480 miles away.My signal report was5/7. For the next six hours I contacted WA-USA, England, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Moscow, Estonia, Croatia,Finland,Denmark Japan, Austria, Australia, S. Korea, China and many more. Most of the signal reports were 5/7 and 5/9 One chap in England, said that Philippines is rare DX on 80 meters. He also said that he was surprised that I was running bare foot. I have had many pile ups using my tribander, but I never expected to have a train wreck using a multi-band vertical on 80 meters. I also have 100kHc bandwidth @ 2.0swr. | EXCELLANT ANTENNA |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
well i have owned both the hf2v and hf6v verticals never had a problem unlike some other
verticals that claim to be self supporting this one really is.performance excellant with a good
ground radial system. this antenna can take full legal power in fact i even ran the full limit to
it during a rtty contest and it never broke a sweat. i had to retire the antennas when i put up
my 4 square array as i didnt care to have the backyard full of aluminum but do miss it. buy one
you cant go wrong. |

| Great for Dx! |

| Well I have had this antenna for 9 years. And 4 locations. This really needs a counterpoise that you can make yourself. Or have what I have 3000sq. ft. of a Sheet Iron Roof! And grounded of course. Let me tell you this I work most stations with 100 watts. W0DN, Don Newcomb really new his stuff when he made this antenna in Lockhart, Texas. |

Hello,
i use a Butternut HF9V since several years.
First the antenna was ground mounted.
I use only a few radials. In the second qth the
antenna was also ground mounted.
Now i set up the antenna on the balcony and use
chicken-wire as radials.
Also have the 160 radiator installed.
Worked and cfm with this all band vertical:
5BWAZ (200 zones)
WAZ on WARC
5BDXCC
DXCC on 12 and 17 meter
Last country to work: P5
Low-Bands:
30 meter super (300 countries)
40 meter great (over 300 countries)
80 meter quiet o.k. (240 countries)
160 meter qso´s can be done, hi
(so far 88 countries wrk)
On 160 the antenna is very short, but dx is
sometimes workable. Bandwith abt 10 kc.
On 80 meter the antenna performed quiet well,
bandwith abt. 45 kc.
On the low bands (40/80) an amp will help, as
always.
The butternut is still the best all-band-vertical for me.
Remember the antenna works form 160 to 10 meter!
6 meter also possible!

| This antenna is Great! |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
| I did a lot of research on vertical antennas for my small city lot before deciding on the HF6V. All I can say is that I'm glad I got the HF6V. It's a great antenna! I sometimes run 500 watts and can bust through most pileups with ease. I constantly get great signal reports even at 100 watts. I recently installed the 12/17 coils and they too work as described. With a little work, all bands can be tuned to 2:1 SWR or less. The 80 meter is a little narrow, but the auto tuner on my IC-746 tunes it in across the entire phone band. If you are limited on space or just want an antenna that does what it is suppose to, get the Butternut HF6V. You will not regret it! |

| An Excellent Vertical !!!! |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| I have to agree with the earlier review. I have had the HF6VX for four years now and it is mounted on the roof with four roof top tuned radials. The antenna works extremely well, I use a tuner so I am not picky on the tuning of the antenna. I have worked over 120 countries. Sometimes I run 500w and I have busted many pileups. I also work local and DX on 40 meters. Hmmm, no rotor, work the world, work local, no tower, no significant cost. Sounds like a great deal to me. I have no affliation with Bencher/Butternut. This is a for real review. If something happened to the antenna, I would go out and get another. I would be interested in reviews from hams who have the antenna mounted near the ground, such as 8 feet high, and who are using the counterpoise kit. |

| Love it! |

My HF6V was my first antenna by default. It was given to me with my first rig three years ago. Additionally, where I live I really cannot put up anything other than a vertical.
I live at the rear of a two-storey office building in downtown Baltimore and my antenna(s) would have to be on the roof of this building. Since the roof is steel, anything mounted on it is effectively just about at ground level. The antenna is bracketed to a 30-ton air conditioning unit and the unit's base is welded to the steel roof frame underneath.
For the first two years my HF activity was limited to MARS operation but upgrading last year turned me loose on HF. Since July of last year I have worked all states with this antenna, worked 152 countries (Crete last night!) and have never had a bobble with the antenna. The internal tuner on the TS-570S(G) tunes everything between 6 and 80 meters just fine, even though it doesn't have the 12 and 17 meter kit installed. It also tunes it to the MARS frequencies as well.
Consdiering I can work anyone I can hear, and consistantly get outstanding signal reports, I can whole heartedly recomment this antenna.
Oh yes, radials ...
I don't have any! The roof provided all the ground plane I need ... all 23,000 sq ft of it!

| Great Vertical |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| An absolutely wonderful multiband vertical, I had it ground mounted with twenty 25' radials around it, and running only 100 watts into it, it made a VERY respectable showing in many a DX pile up (242 countries in 20 months). Suprisingly effective and quiet for a ground mounted antenna in a suburban neighorhood. Assembly was a "follow the directions and you'll be fine" effort, and after the sale customer service was superb, too (I had to have a tuning coil replaced after a puppy decided it'd be fun to pull it apart and drag it around the yard). But alas, I had to take it down. But don't cry for me too much. I promised the neighbors and my wife I'd take down the vertical since I'm putting a tower up. So, in memoriam and with great appreciation, I offer this review. For those who are in the "can't get a tower up, can't get a dipole up high enough" crowd, this is an antena you had better seriously consider if you are seriously considering your antenna choices. |
