I (hate to admit it) seriously fat-fingered the hardware "wide-banding" mod to my FT-897D to enable MARS TX. The Yaesu techs told me it probably couldn't be repaired, but David at Burghardt had it back to me within 10 days of when I shipped the rig to them, and it works like new. Reasonable charge for the repairs, too.

So far I have not had the opportunity to use the Burghardt repair service but if it is anything like their day to day customer service I won't have any problems contacting them. I have purchased 4 radios from them, three used and one brand new. I have spoken to Jim and Michelle on the phone both very polite and professional. I would recommend their customer service to everyone and I hope I never have to use their repair dept., but if I do I know I will be taken care of professionally. Now I put 0-3 months owned because that is how long I have had my latest radio from them, a brand new Yaesu FT-897D and it works just like it is supposed to and when I called to inquire about their prices on a used Yaesu FT-897 I was told by Michelle it wasn't the "D" model so I asked her about a new one and she gave me a price I couldn't refuse so I bought it.

If you need to contact them for repair service it will be a phone call worth while to you.

Why Can't All Service Providers Be This Good? Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent an IC-R9000 in for servicing and couldn't be more pleased with the professional service that Burghardt's provided me.
I read the reviews here on eHam, and decided to give 'em a try. Prompt, professional, fast, and a fair price for the service. The friendly staff was very helpful and answered all my questions. My radio was back in 10 days, including shipping both ways from California. Everything works beautifully.

Not impressed Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Sent my Ft-857 for intermittant 6 meter xmit audio problem. Enclosed their RMA form and gave them details. The website said turnaround time was about 28 days. I knew when they received the rig from UPS tracking. I waited 2 weeks after that and decided to send an email to the service department manager just to touch base on the status. Never got a reply. After 6 days of no reply I decided to call. Spoke with a friendly tech, Bob. After a minute or two andsome paper shuffling he found my file and said he could not reproduce the problem. Okay, I expected that could happen but what bugs me is that I never received a call or email for any addtional information that may help them to find the problem. I asked him if they were sendikng the rig back and he said " I think so, but I will check to be sure". That night I found the rig at my doorstep. The note enclosed said "unable to reproduce problem, I happens again check your SWR". Well if they bothered to email or call me they would have found that the problem still occured when attached to a dummy load at 1:1 SWR.I don't know if that information would have helped but I feel that for the $50 charge at least a phone call or email asking for any additional information would be in order. I was not impressed by the lack of effort to communicate with the customer.

Icom 706 MK2G. VHF/UHF FM audio problem. Checked them out here first. Then their web site. Posted service time on the web site 17 days. To there Watertown, SD from Columbus Ohio and back including repair time. 14 days actual time. Radio worked perfect upon return. Repair was non-warranty. They have my business for service needs. This should say alot since Im in Columbus Ohio and Universal Radio is a 20 minute drive for me. Send them your repair needs and let them solve your problems.

Great service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have sent three radios to Burghardt for repair -all have come back quickly and in great shape. One was an 890AT that was given to me. It had been "peaked and tweaked" (translation, knocked out of alignment and processor trashed) in a CB shop. The prior owner sent it to Yaesu who returned it a month later as "not econmically feasable to repair". Burghardt sent it back to me after 3 weeks not only repaired, but with the diode upgrades done as well. It sounded so much better than my other 890 I guess that one will be comming in as well...

Better than factory service by a long shot!

I also have been dealing with them since 1992 and, have nothing but praise for them!

As others have said in these reviews Jim Smith and,the crew at Burghartd's are the best.

Very honest,fair and,dependable people!

I really can't say enough nice things about them.

I try to refer other hamsters out here on the West Coast to them.

I have purchased both new and,used gear from them with the same respect no matter how much I spend with them.

They have been MORE then fair bending over backwards even when I have purchased used equipment and,have even sent me copies of schematics via snail for no charge!

Absolutely the VERY best!

Jim, Michell,Steve and all the crew at Burghardt got "WHAT IT TAKES". That being said, I`ve also had a few radio repairs done, without any drawbacks. Several used pieces of equipment i`ve bought were exceptional! In todays GIMME IT PDQ world it takes a "LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT". A member of our club inadvertently left our satellite rig (IC-821H) connected to a TNC and PC, but with no antenna load. At the next meeting, when found in this condition, rig had no usable output.

Well, Burghardt gave an estimate on a Wed, I shipped on a Friday and got a firm estimate on
receipt of the rig the following Wed (shipped via std UPS). The rig was shipped out to me on the following Wed with accompanying e-mail after parts were ordered and installed.

It works great again, tx to David Smith and Burghardt Repair Service.

No relation, business or personally, just a satisfied customer !
