Very good service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had a FT-100 radio with HF RF amplifier problem (it became deaf). I tried to troubleshoot it and found that it needed a transistor or relay or something else to be changed in the RF section. This would mean removing boards, changing parts on the lower board side and much manual labor. And of course all of them were SMD devices. Even Yaesu said they wouldn't fix it. It would take me at least a day. Burghart did it all for about $160. I was amazed. Very professional and very quick. Highly recommended!

100% in every way! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used "BURGHARDT RADIO REPAIR" several times over the last few years for various problems. Each and every time I received almost instant replies to questions prior to sending a radio in for repair. He takes the time to explain possible options that may cure the problem. The work is done in a very timely manner with full documentation. Every time the radio is also gone thru so as to "peak" it to its full potential. The e-mails or phone calls are always friendly. You feel that you are talking to a personal ham buddy! My latest problem was a lightning surge on the Kenwood TS-590S. Sure, 14 days seems like a long time, but the wait is well worth the price. BTW; I have ARRL insurance, and it is a class act by it self! I wouldn't be with it either. Why is it that many of the BIG RADIO dealers send their work to Jim for repair?....read above and you will realize he is completely trusted as QUALITY. Thanks Jim and your staff!

Perfect Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Excellent Experience.
I sent my FT-990 in because the tuner stopped working. The other repair services I called said parts NLA and preferred not to accept the order. Jim at Burghardt said to send it in for evaluation.
Four weeks later it was fixed and back in my hands (along with the bad parts) in my original packing and then some. Works perfectly. Easy-peasy process and very reasonable hourly and parts cost.
FWIW I am the original owner of this FT990.

Excellent Service/Turnaround! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have used Jim's service before, with great results.

He told me right up front that his "shelf" was full and it would take 3 weeks+ at least before he got to my AMP (AL-80B = tube arc over). Got a call from him with my estimate after only 2.5 weeks...he needed to get these BIG boxes off his shelf to hold more radios coming in...He did 5 or 6 amp's in one day. (he works more hours than just 8 on many days!).

Repairs and shipping were within 10% of his estimate. He furnished a NEW BOX and did a NEW FOAM FILL packing for my unit, as my box had seen better days. The new tube (a real one!) came in it's own factory box. Jim always has spent whatever time was needed on the phone to explain what he was seeing or to get me to understand what the issues and repairs were.

I would use Jim's service again without any reservations!.. I would call first, or email, so you know what his shop/load is for time estimate. His level of knowledge can not be found these days in most shops...only "factory" techs approach his knowledge, and then it's just for one brand.

Give him a call...you'll like his service!

(I waited to post this until the unit was back in service for some air time...All is well...).

Fast Turn Around & Reasonable Prices Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was extremely disappointed when Jim and his people decided to stop selling amateur radio equipment. I had dealt almost exclusively with them for 30+ years. I am VERY glad that they decided to stay in the repair side of the hobby!

My Icom 706MkII suffered a nearby lightning strike and Jim fixed me right up. Took 24 calendar days but his repair charges were reasonable.

good work, professional service Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I sent in my used FT-1000 to Burghardt by recommendation from Vertex Standard (Yaesu) USA.

Turnaround was about 4 weeks. Communication was friendly and professional. Service to the transceiver was excellent; defective parts were returned labeled and a TX power test was made and documented on all bands.

Price was on the steep side, but I'd rather overpay for good quality, because bad quality is worse than useless. If the price had been a bit lower, I'd give them 5 stars.

I've heard of a few other FT-1000 wizards out there who charge significantly less, and I'll be on the lookout for them next time (thanks, in part, to this outstanding forum!) But I would not hesitate to hire Burghardt again.

Great job repairing my FT-100 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Burghardt Repair Service did a great job repairing my FT-100 which had 10/12M tx oscillation (poorly done factory repair in the past) and deaf on 430 MHz (open PC trace). Turn-around time was reasonable, cost was reasonable, communications was responsive, and rig was packed very well for return (foam-in-place and inner plastic bag; they clearly know what they're doing). Anyway, they well deserve repeat business.

FT-100 repaired Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My FT-100 died in Dec 2001 (it had no power out on any band). Sent it to Yaesu. In May 2002 (yes, 5 months later) they gave me a $680 estimate to fix it (they wanted to replace the finals, the CPU, and some other misc parts).

I had Yaesu not fix it and send it back to me. Its been sitting in the box in my cellar for 8 years.

Seen something in the FT-100 group on Yahoo about problems with the ALC circuit causing no power out on any band. Sent my FT-100 to Burghardt at the end of April. They replaced 6 smd resistors, did the MARS mod so I can program the five 60m channels into memories, made sure the radio was aligned to specs. All of this AND the return shipping was just under $210 (and the finals and CPU that Yaesu wanted to replace were good).

I've had my FT-100 back for less than a week and its working GREAT.

So... needless to say... I'm very happy with Burghardt.

FT-100D Repaired & satisified Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Sent my FT-100D in for repair. They fixed the problem and made sure it was up to factory specification. Tested and passed.
Their turnaround time was fast.
I recommend their radio repair service and will use them again if I need to.
Great service.
