THE Great Classic Amp Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have both the water/vapor cooled version (Alpha PA-70V) and the air cooled version (Alpha PA-70A). About 150 of the vapor version and 10 (ten) of the air version were made. If you treat the vapor-cooled tube (3VC1500A7) with respect it will last a lifetime. The air cooled version uses a 3CX1000A7 which is also an "instant-on" tube. The vapor tubes have not been made since the late 1980's, but you can usually talk a tube remanufactured into taking a new 3CX1000A7 and transplanting the vapor cooling jacket from your old vapor tube onto it to essentially get a new tube. These amps are IMO among the finest HF amplifiers ever manufactured, and effortlessly give decade after decade of solid performance. They are both quite difficult to find and only rarely appear on the used market.

Nice Classic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Have used the old Dick Ehrhorn PA-70V for a while...Nice to use a full legal amplifier with
no loud blower noise..This unit is built like a battle-ship with one of those brick .... houses on its deck hi...Loads up on 160 through 10 but not 12 meters with out changing the plate choke..
Full 1500 watts out with about 50 to 70 watts of drive..No noise just great power...Very rare and hard to find..
