Works well with an Inovonics 222 driving my Johnson Valiant 1 with a Shure SM58 microphone. Outstanding audio reports are consistently received.

The Symetrix 528 and 528E (newer version) is an excellent mic processor, far better than the speech processor included in most rigs. The 528 includes a bypass-able microphone preamp with selectable phantom power, an adjustable "De-Esser" which ducks excessive sibilance, an audio compressor and downward expander, (reduces microphone sensitivity between words to reduce background noise), a three band parametric equalizer,the output section contains a LED bar-graph meter and a voice symmetry function. Each stage can be bypassed and jacks to side-chain every stage is provided. It is important that the user understand the fundamentals of audio processing, specifically mic processing before attempting to use the 528 on the air. The 528 manual is available on line from Symetrix and contains some good control starting points and provided as well as a primer on voice processing. A couple of notes: RF rejection is good, the output can be set for either mic or line level out (on earlier versions the switch is inside, the top needs to be removed to access the switch) If you want to buy one used you may need to clean the controls and switches. Many of these were installed at radio stations where they were set up and never adjusted for the life of the unit. The mic preamp on some versions use surface mount components, these run rather warm and seem to damage the P.C. board over time.

Save money , buy the 528 non E model			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The Symetrix voice processors are remarkable , capable devices . After owning both the 528 and the 528e , the 528 turns out to be a bargain . The 528e was a replacement for the venerable old Symetrix 528 . This was made necessary when the original 2015 chip went out of production . The replacement 2017 by many reports does not perform nearly as well as the old 2015 . This is a case where the new model gets a lot of undue attention . As a result the arguably superior 528 actually sells for quite a bit less ! Take advantage and save a few dollars by seeking out a nice 528 .

Fantastic if you learn to use it			Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This piece of equipment isn't for the average Joe without any background in audio signal processing. One box has a pre-amp, de-esser, downward expander, compressor and three fully parametric bands of EQ. Each of these tools will either create or destroy an audio signal. They represent full control of the most powerful tools you can apply to a signal. That said, I have a background as a sound reinforcement engineer and this is a simply amazing piece of gear for managing the dynamics of voice input. The results are _fantastic_ . Each tool works as they are supposed to. No dumbing down of the features with this piece. Compression applies just as it should for voice input and the downward expander is amazing. The EQ is smooth and consistent across the three bands. No RF issues with this piece either. If you know what you are getting into or have a lot of patience to learn to apply pro-audio processing, this rig will do it all the way it was meant to be. Do I think full retail price is worth plugging into a ham radio? No. That's why I waited to find one on the used market. Does it represent an excellent value in general at full price? Absolutely. Anyone that does voice-over or other broadcast voice work...this is THE unit for voice. The feel of the components when you apply them 'just works' for voice. I've used a lot of outboard processing gear and you can accomplish similar results with half a rack of other components, but you can't beat the convenience of this unit.

What a Awesome piece of Gear,My Txrv FT-2000 And TS-870s.In conjuntions With Behringer B-1 Mic.And Ultrafex EX-3200.Fed Via Balance Modulator.WOW... It's sound true Broadcast Quality.My TX still in within 3Khz Bandwidth. I use to run W2IHY 8BAND EQ and EQ Plus.Sound OK.. But they Exapnder doesn't work Correctly.I rather choice the 528E.The Audio tend to be more smouth and nice mellowing sound.That is what i am upter.. Very good for dx'ing as well for the reg chewing. Great all in one equalizer			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a great product for upgrading your audio. It is designed for a broadcast(RF) environment so it fits well to the amateur market. The 528e gives you alot of functions in one small box and it can stand alone so you can start with it and add more equipment to your audio rack if you like. The only down side is that it is a bit on the spendy side but it is a very well made piece of equipment.

Has many functions all in one standard rack space unit. Great flexibility with parametric equalizer,compression and de-esser. A little pricey new (around 500.00 US) but a clean used one can be had for around 250.00 - 300.00. Definitly the preamp to have with a Kenwood 870 or 950.
