Well engineered SSB portable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The JSB-20 is a very handy package. With 4 channel xtal control and 10w SSB, it makes for a very compact emergency net radio. Mine is crystaled up for the primary local emergency and works well.

It comes with a tunable whip which works surprisingly well, but with a typical mobile whip or dipole the radio performs comparable to more powerful rigs.

Battery life is excellent, and since the radio is gasketed, it will survive outdoor use with no problems.

Even when compared to radios like the Yaesu FT-817 the JSB still fares well. 10 watts is slightly more usable in most portable situations, and the battery life afforded by a xtal rig is critical in emergency ops.

While the JSB would never make sense as a primary radion for general amateur use, it is a very good solution for camping, emergency use, etc.

Mine have been very durable, and I will keep at least one indefinitely just because it is fun to use.

The main resource for the JSB-20 is the Yahoo group found at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jsb-20 Full manuals, specifications, etc are available there.
