Awesome! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well worth the money. I constantly get kind comments on my audio, and the only thing I do differently with my 746 is use this microphone. It is very sensitive and yet does well at not including background noise. I am able to talk very softly into the mic with good results--saves the voice. No problems whatsoever. Looks great, has a good heft, and works wonders on the audio.

Worth the $$$ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased the Heil ICM from HRO for $89.95 and it was worth the money. I also purchased with it the foot pedal FS-1 since the mic cable already has a 1/4" jack pig tail. I love this setup. The mic came with a spring clip which mounted right on my goose neck. Also there is a button on the mic to transmit. Sound .... I have got excellent reports. I have used the HM-36 mic which came with my IC-718 and the heil mic. No difference. Other mics DO NOT have the gain to be used with non-pro ICOM rigs. The Heil ICM matches the performance of the original mic which was made for IC-718. My only comment would be the cord on the ICM has a permanate connection but for $89.95 I can not complain. The ICM does what it claims. If you want a Heil mic, have an ICOM rig and dont want to break the bank ... I say "Buy it, You'll like it"

I recently purchased an ICOM 910-H and wanted a microphone that would give me the best sound quality possible. I turned to Heil to meet my needs and I am very glad I did. I emailed Bob Heil for a recommendation and the next thing I knew Bob Heil and I were on the phone discussing my needs. Bob recommended the iCM, even though my rig is NOT one of the older Icom’s. I took delivery of my iCM several days later and proceeded to see how it worked.

I first did some FM repeater and FM simplex sound tests with a friend. After a gain adjustment, which consisted of significantly turning the mic gain down from the recommended factory setting to prevent overdriving it, my friend told me that I sounded exactly as I do in person. We then went on to do some SSB and again my friend reported broadcast quality sound. I then placed the supplied factory microphone back on the rig and noted that I had to turn the mic gain back up again before my friend could clearly hear me. My friend then told me that the factory mic had a very tinny quality to it and to throw it away. Since I had to turn the mic gain down for the iCM to keep from overdriving it, it seems clear that the iCM does in fact have significant punch as advertised.

Of important note, I am soft spoken and my friend is hard of hearing. My friend has always had to turn up the volume on his rig to hear me clearly, however with the iCM my friend was able to clearly hear me without adjusting his volume. He commented several times on how much punch and clarity my voice now had in comparison to years past and other microphones.

As far as I am concerned the iCM is all that Heil says it is and is an excellent choice even if your Icom is not one of the older rigs. It did wonders for my 910-H, which is one of Icom’s newest offerings.

Fantastic improvement Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is one great microphone for the older (IC-735 in my case)ICOM line of HF radios. I have received excellent audio reports, and have compared it to others on the air. Most convincing is the article in CQ (AUG-2002)about the Heil microphones for ICOM transceivers, that use electret type mikes. This is the best article detailing the ICOM low level inputs on their older radios, and goes into great detail and comparing it to other Heil mikes, and how Heil worked with ICOM in developing this mike. Comes with cord attached to mike, and a connection for a foot-switch. Nothing else to buy.
