Works Fine but ....... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased a MFJ Model 4125 switching power supply. This is the plain model that has no meters. The construction is Ok but cannot compare to Astron. The performance is acceptable. The street price is around $80. The fan noise I have read in older reviews is not a problem with this unit. I had to really run high current for a long time to get the low speed fan to kick into high speed. It appears MFJ changed how the fan works. On older models the fan kicked into high if you keyed your radio for 2 seconds. Now it must be temp sensitive. If I had to do it again I would go for an Astron but I paid $65 new at a Flea market so I can't complain.

MFJ 4225MV really nice! Time Owned: unknown months.
After reading the ARRL review on the newest switching supplies I purchased the new MFJ4225MV switching supply and was I impressed!! And, this from someone who isn't too impressed with MFJ products as a whole. Well, the MFJ4225MV really does fit in my hand, easily, I mean easily powers my Kenwood TS690S to full power and, as far as I can detect, doesn't put any switching noise into my receiver!! I'll refer you to the nicely-done technical review in recent QST. With the voltage and current meters, this really is a nice power supply if you don't mind paying a bit more for a switching supply over the traditional analog units!

Hurricane MFJ (Model 4035MV) Time Owned: unknown months.
In the catalog, the MFJ 4035-MV looks really solid, and it is in the electrical sense. It is nice to have a variety of convenient connections available (1 pr 5-way, 2 sets spring terminals/quick-disconnect and 1 cigaretta lighter plug). Based solely on what the built in meters say, the regulation at 20+ amps appears very good. However, the nice package "falls apart" once current draw rises above (I'd estimate) 2 amps. A loud fan comes on, whether the load is 2 amps of 32 amps. It stays on for 3 - 4 minutes, whether the heavy load is present for 3 seconds or 3 minutes. MFJ, who had this supply build for them, says that the fan is indeed current actuated and on a timer (as opposed to temperature controlled). Is this poor design or just cheap! So, what starts out being a great deal becomes quickly destroyed by "hurricane MFJ!"
