Great light weight, comfortable boom set Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used many mics and head sets over the years. and find the Proset to be the BEST
choice for serious DX/Contesting. After even 8 hours of constant use, my ears do not hurt
at all. The head set is so comfortable, that I have even forgot that I had it on, and got up from
the chair and walked away, and had them pulled off my head by the cord.

There are some boom / headset combinations out there that are built stronger, but they are
not near as good for long use. If you only operate for 1 hour maximum, it doesn't much matter what you use. For long, comfortable use, the Proset wins easily.

Great mic - headphones are a joke. Time Owned: more than 12 months.

The mic element in the Heil Proset is very good - either the HC4 or HC5.
I have used them both over the years and I currently use an HC5 on my
homebrew headset. The headphones are not very good. I wish Heil
had spent half as much time selecting headphone elements as they did
selecting mic elements. The headphones do not sound good. I want
the headphone to reproduce all of the audio coming from my radio as
fathfully as possible - these just don't do that. The physical construction
of the Proset is subpar - headsets take alot of abuse over time and I have
seen more broken Prosets then I can count. The most common failure
is for the ear cup to break off of the headband. I have used/abused
other quality headphones and never had them come apart like the
Heil Proset I have owned. It is too bad there are not more choices
for headsets. My solution was to make my own headset - by getting
some high quality headphones and combining them with the Heil
boom mic from my dead Heil headsets. If it were not for the good mic
element I would give this product a 1 or 0 rating.

Works well, could be better Time Owned: unknown months.
My Proset is about 3 years old and I like it with a few caveats. The depth of the over-the-ear muffs could be a little deeper - they rub my ears more than previous ones I've had. Ear pads wear out in about a year, and are not easy to replace although new pads are available and reasonably priced. The HC-5 mic output level does not drive my Omni VI+'s VOX well enough to use, but otherwise is OK. A wind-blast ball over the mic should be incorporated as it is susceptible to wind blast. And the HC-4 cartridge should be banned from radio! I hate the sound of them. The HC-5 works very well with my voice. I've mentioned some negatives, but I consider the Proset to be the best offering available for a 'phones/mic package.

A Comfortable and Flexible Combo Time Owned: unknown months.
Surprisingly comfortable, the full-over -the-ear Proset is a good value. The mic boom, made of flexible tubing, is infinitely adjustable and the earphones likewise are easy to adjust to taste. The Proset works well on my Icom751A and was great on my Kenwood TS-930S. However, the mic output is almost insufficient to properly drive the VOX circuit of my Ten Tec Omni Six Plus. Also, the earphones do not appear to interface well with the Omni receiver because the AF gain must be turned up for sufficient volume, thus introducing white noise background "hiss". All things considered though, the Proset is, for most rigs, a good choice. Another thing: I used the HC-5 mid-range element which worked well on all my rigs for general ragchewing. DXer's probably will prefer the squeaky HC-4 element.

Comfortable, rugged, great audio. Time Owned: unknown months.
These headphones fully cover your ears and provide excellent audio. I've worn them for many hours during contests without any "headphone fatigue". The microphone element (Heil supplies -4 or -5, your choice) is on a flexible boom that you can bend into just about any position. Cable ends are a standard 3-cond 1/4-inch phone plug for the cans, 2-cond 1/8-inch phone plug for the microphone. Heil sells various adapter cables for Kenwood, Yaesu, etc. or you can easily make one yourself. I'm retiring my BM-10 immediately.
