Nice audio... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received this mic. from the TS-2000 promo from Kenwood, it sounds great. I don't detect the "smell" that others seem to...perhaps because it is new and and I haven't blasted the screen with crusty, moist sibilants yet.

Hits and misses Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I can't help but rate this mike highly because it accomplishes its purpose, but this alarming trend of looking for "that broadcast quality sound" at the expense of bandwidth is bothersome.

This gold-colored mike looks sort of silly versus his original black mikes. Such a dated design seems targeted toward old folks what are harkening back to "the good old days" of radio when you would be sitting around listening to Fibber McGee and Molly.

Heil has another mike design that is even more ridiculous that allows octegenarians (70% of hams) to imagine that they are Walter Winchell and that the people out there in radioland are hanging on their every melodious word.

I have gotten unsolicited reports of fantastic audio using my Goldline (with a '756 Pro II), but it is because it was turned to the HC-4 element and the audio was articulate and busted through everyone else's. Maybe in casual ragchewing mode the (**cringe**) "wide" element will work well, but I feel I have no business occupying more than my share of the band.

GREAT!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I've been a mic nut for years! The Heil Goldline (using the Studio cartridge gives me the sound that I had been looking for. I get many unsolicited excellent audio reports - I am frequently asked what type of mic I am using. This mic is RFI bomb proof - I operate in a high RF environment ( the antenna is in real close proximity to the shack ( upstairs room ) NO PROBLEMS! My mic DOES NOT smell, I know the earlier production models did! I just wish Bob Heil manufactured a budget EQ unit. Come on Bob, easy for a guy like you!!

Does the job. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Not really much to say other than it sounds good and is a nice addition to the shack. Only downfall was having to send the brand new microphone back to get the hc-5 element fixed. I had no problems in getting it repaired though.

GM-5 -- FT1000MP Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
i have the heil goldline GM-5 dual element studio microphone (hc5 insert -full range insert)running through my yaesu ft1000mp, i am getting outstanding audio reports using the full range setting on the goldline from everyone i speak to..the full range element exhibits a wide range response of 40hz-16000khz and seems a perfect match with my ft1000mp and i am very happy with the combination of the two..

Great microphone Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Very nice microphone. I use for ragchew and DX with good audio reports. Currently using on my 775dsp although I know the ICM may be a better choice. Looks great and even better with the Luxo microphone extension and shock mount system. As for the smell..well, yes, it's there. Strangely, I've grown to like it. Put a microphone foam insert over it (RadioShack sells) and that masks the smell and protects the front.
Great addition to the shack, for sure.

stinks Time Owned: more than 12 months.
this mic stinks!!literally.ive had mine for two years and the smell grew on me.it reminds me of home back in brooklyn n.y.it smells like a subway station.the smell is fading now so i have to ship it back to heil and complain the smell is dissapearing.they better get that stench back or i'll never use it again.as far as audio,it's a wonderful full sound reproduction that it hard to get with any other mic.i love this mic.my only grip is the smell is fadeing.73

Excellent Audio Reports Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using the GM-4 for about 2 years now and for the most part have had excellent reports. The smell that everyone comments on is still present, though quite faint. On a daily basis I use the mic in the Full Range position and only use the HC cartridge when working the big DX pileups. On my FT-1000D I found that the mic gain had to be set at roughly 8:30 posn which is quite a bit lower than when I used the MD-1 mic, and far better audio reports, also reduced transmit ambient noise from the shack. My version must be one of the earlier ones as I have the slide switch PTT. Bob continues to put out fine products.

GReat Mic Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Looks and works great. I use the Goldline with the HC4 element. I use a Kenwood 2000 and in the "narrow mode" it works great on the HF bands. In the "wide mode" it doesn't seem to drive the amp as well. I use the mic in the "wide mode" while on 2 meters. Purchased the Heil boom and I'm happy with the set up.
