Made a new order of cards. This time, it was for the Kalaupapa County DXpedition. Pretty much the same experience as the last time (see Dec 29, 2002). Great turnaround on the proofs, getting little things corrected. This time, the finished product was done from a 300 DPI scan of 4x6-inch photo, emailed to ELLI. No mailing of a photo was necessary. The bitmap was 24-bit color, 1193 pixels high x 1776 pixels wide, 5.2 Mbytes compressed TIFF file, plus a few misc bit map graphics. A 600 DPI file would have been 21 Mbytes, but it was not necessary. Last order, I received it in seven days. This time, the first shipment was lost in the international mail. The second shipment took 28 days, and it appears that the US postal service sent the international airmail package via bulk mail surface ship (4 days transit) from San Francisco to Hawaii. Why the airmail package would be sent surface ship is unclear. So allow ample time (1 to 4 weeks) for airmail from CZ to USA. Elli wanted to ensure that we received our cards, so Lubos and the crew had prepared a third batch. However, the package from the second shipment arrived that very afternoon, so the third shipment was not necessary. For their willingness to ensure customer satisfaction even though the shipping is outside of their control, plus a superb finished product, they get a "5+" rating. A great card. Quite accurate color reproduction printed on the card even though the colors looks a little dark and muddy on a TFT laptop display. I almost want to go on another DXpedition so I can get another card made! It's well worth the wait, and it made an ELLI believer out of my DXpediton partner. I corresponded with them over e-mail, sent them a scanned, marked up photo of what I had in mind for the front, a .GIF file of the layout made from Visio, and a couple .GIF files of the special logos desired. I also sent the photo via mail for scanning by them, which they received in a week. E-mail correspondance was interesting. I could correspond with them before or after work. Because of the time zone difference half way around the world, if I responded as soon as I got home in the evening, I might be able to exchange an extra round of e-mails before I turned in for the night. Five days after receiving the photo, I got e-mail proofs of the front and back. After correcting a couple typos, they started printing while we settled the payment via credit card. They use a payment service called Matrix, which requires you to FAX (not e-mail or web) the info to them. Within a couple of days, the order was ready to ship. I received the shipment in one week later, and it included my original photo. Overall, it was 37 days, with about a week delay on my side getting the fax to them. And the result? Beautiful postcard-like photo QSL cards, with the back side graphics exactly as requested -- including the two black and white logos. They included red ink at no extra charge -- which worked out really well on the photo side. The text stood out on the white clouds, blue sky and green grass, and was a real good design choice on their part. The 1,000 cards will tie me over for a little while, and they'll be getting a refill order for me shortly. Great doing business with them, and they have my whole hearted thanks! I ordered many thousend different QSLs from ELLI during the past years, allways very pleased with the printing quality. Just received a package with my new fold QSLs within a very short delivering time, again I can say ELLI offers very good quality for a low price in printing and shipping. OUTSTANDING QUALITY			Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am really delighted with the quality of the finished cards. As expected (this was my second order). The result is that you get really beautiful postcard-like QSL's. You can even customize the back side using your own graphics and not simply some standard graphics and tables like many QSL shops do.
