Full featured, but the RX IMD problem is bad for metro areas. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My 1st dual band mobile rig. Full features you'd want and expect, until you went into harsh RF environments, like metro areas. Intermod on RX is terrible. The DR-635T is indeed the better RX improved version of this rig. Apparently, there is a modified fix for this. So, if you see this rig for $100.00, or less, grab it! One thing about all Alincos? Their audio is hot right out of the box. Simple adjustment internally. Look for a Phillips Headed POT marked DEV for Deviation. Just be sure that you have a deviation meter, or something else for your TX audio reference when doing this adjustment. Other-wise, nice audio quality for both TX and RX. Oh yes... For you cold climate ops, the 440MHz Squelch will drop on you while the rig is cold, but come back after it warms up. The DR-635T does that too, so it must be an Alinco thing.

Excellent Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
No problems whatsoever ! and I am used to other more common brands such as Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom. This radio has excellent transmission and a very respectbable reception. Easy to operate due to the conception of commands and full of features. Recently bought the separation kit for mobile easiness and I am very happy with it. Nice look and very good performance.

VHF Intermod BAD! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Unfortunately I have to give this radio a 1.
Since I took it on the road, VHF is unusable, I have to have the volume off! even with the squelch on maximum the reciver is cracking and poping to the local pager transmitters..even many Mhz away....
Luckily I use UHF mostly where it works ok. Alpha numeric chanel id is good too.
But unusable on VHF unless you are on top of the transmitter or use CTCSS to keep squelch shut!

No wonder they discontinued it and seems in most countries swapped it for a 605 if you complained strongly enough...which I also have and works fine.

Peter.
