Good rig for the money! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought one of these in May of this year and have been using it mobile and have made some pretty fair DX contacts. Just got another one to use at home QTH for PSK31 since it satisfies the low power requirments and with hooking up an additional coax switch between it and my primary rig I can now switch back and forth from SSB to PSK31 without messing with connecting and disconnecting the interface unit. And with antenna restrictions forcing me to hide antennas in the attic I have still made some good DX contacts on PSK. Good rig for the money.

Great little radio! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I think this is a great radio for the price. I was mainly interested in an inexpensive mobile rig, and this does almost everything I want. I don't do CW mobile, but would like PL to access repeaters (since every repeater in California has PL access these days). Good reciever, good reports on transmit audio. SSB power peaks about 22 watts on my watt meter for good audio, FM runs about 20, AM carrier shows about 5 watts, all into either a dummy load or dipole [of course I make no warranty for the calibration of my watt meter]. Frequency accuracy seems right on, with no drift.

Anyone know where to hook a Communications Specialists PL encoder board to this rig? I happen to have one and would love to use it, just have no schematic.

11 Meter Mod ILLEGAL Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I just want to let anyone know that operating amateur radio equipment on 11 meters is illegal and people have been fined heavily for doing so. I own the HTX-10 and think it's a great rig. I do wish it had CW though.

Best for AM and FM Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Rig has mechanical and ergonomic problems, but nothing that cant be delt with.

Best signal reports on AM and FM, receive also works well in these modes.

Receive on ssb is not tight enough in my opinion. CB bleedover is still a problem on the highway now and then, but not as bad as what I used to get with a htx-100.

This is a good rig to wait and buy used at hamfest.

Very nice mobile rig Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Everyone above has said it all a very nice mobile or base rig. I had a RF problem and installed a snap on ferrite core on the antenna lead at the radio and worked great. CW mod can be found at N2FFL web site at www.geocities.com/n2ffl/index.html. A very easy project and works great.

I'M HAVING FUN Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I'm using my HTX-10 as a 10 meter base station rig for fast action on 10 meter QRP DX. My best contact from St.Louis,Mo was into the Soloman Islands.I'm using a 3 element A-3 beam. The rig also worked great on AM.I had my first 10 meter AM contact in 30 years with a Califonia contact.I have had good audio reports. This is a great rig for beginners and experienced operators who enjoy the challenge of QRP operations when the 10 meter band is open.Remember , its all in the antenna!!

Good Value! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This rig is a good value for $140 (it is on sale periodically). So far this year I've casually
worked many states, Japan, and S America, with crummy (mobile or
deed-restricted base) antennas. I don't think the FM mode would be very useful since no CTCSS (but I am only a tech plus). Finer tuning or a clarifier would be useful,
Audio quality has been reported just fine. Sensitivity is OK, I can hear many
more stations than can hear me with 25W. Eventually I'll figure out how to
interface with PSK31 - as shipped the unit does not function without the
mic connected. One mod I made is I glued a pointer on the frequency shift
knob, which is otherwise hard to center without a close look at the unit.

This first unit I obtained did not work (dead mic?) but it was easily replaced.

Great BANG for the BUCK! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I picked up my HTX-10 a few months ago during a trip to the US (they are not available in Canada). With a dipole made of Hamsticks in my attic (my back up 10m system) I've worked most of the US, Canada, and S.America on both SSB and FM. The FM deviation could be tighter, but the fun of popping the 10 meter repeater on the Virgin Islands from my home QTH in Ontario, and actually carrying on a QSO, out weights the few minor gripes I have about the rig. What do you expect for 149.95....an FT-100??? I plan to purchase another one during my next trip and convert it to a back-pack field radio. C'mon RS....how bout a 6 meter version on the same platform....a 2 meter version would really rock!!!!!!

No CW = LEMON Time Owned: unknown months.
Just my opinion, otay ?
Now, then... If the rig can be keyed while in FM mode by keying the PTT line ( mic gain = 0 ), and then switched to SSB mode for receiving, ( assuming TWO things... 1, the rig xmit is not locked out for FM mode when tuned within the CW subband and 2, this FM xmit hang phenomenon can be dealt with ) although certainly not a convenient way to operate, it might save the rig from being hidden in the closet until we're a little deeper into the next cycle downswing. Meanwhile, I'll sink MY 133 bucks ( that's right, 6 bucks LESS than the HTX-10 ) into a brand spanking new Small Wonder Labs DSW-40 CW ONLY, 40 meters ONLY, DDS QRP xcvr with the spiffy blue-anodized case for use in my p/u truck ! 73, Bill, N4QA

Inexpensive and great little radio! Time Owned: unknown months.
I've had my HTX-10 since last fall and haven't gotten around to rating it. Well, it works and it works very well. I knew that when I was traveling and called an EA7 station -- he came right back with a 57 report! Now, sure, band conditions are largely responsible but the HTX-10 does everything it should and does it nicely. It's something of a pleasure to work 10 meters rather than 2 meters (for which I also have a rig), you just feel something of a thrill working DX that you don't get on 2m. This lil' rig could have included CW and thereby become an all-around rig for the home base, but at least I can monitor the CW band; just following a QSO in progress is great practice for me. This rig's a keeper!
