For the money, It's a keeper-good quality for the Time Owned: unknown months.
This 10 meter radio functions very well in my car.
The clarifier took a little getting used to because it changes the frequency. My question is: after the 10meter band goes inactive this radio will go the way of my HTX-100 and end up on the shelf,so to get some use out of it - is there any way to convert it to 11meter operation??? If it can be converted let me know.So far I think not!!

Hard to imagine a better way to spend under 150 bucks on ham radio. Just had it one day and works great on SSB. Europeans are surprised when they find out what I'm using. S7, 8, and S9 reports on a multiband vertical. Noise blanker works better than my FT1000D on AC line noise. Hope it does as well in the car with ignition noise. Very pleased.

Update of Prior Report, Mobile Operation Time Owned: unknown months.
Now have used the HTX-10 one day mobile. Temporary installation getting DC out of the cigarette lighter and using a cut-down CB magmount antenna on the roof. Worked Italy and Germany on the way to work with S7 & S8 signals. Worked Portugal on the way to lunch. This thing really works! The fun per dollar index is very high. The noise blanker is great. Ignition noise barely perceptible at normal speeds. Some gets thru at idle, but no real problem. Upgraded my score to a 5.

Will I ever learn? Time Owned: unknown months.
When the sun spot cycle was really low (a couple of years ago), I bought a Radio Shack HTX-100 (you know...the older model).
I left it in the box and only recently opened it to get on 10 meters. The receiver worked, but the transmit was DOA. I took it to Radio Shack ("We fix what we sell"). They changed me $20.00 to look at it, then told me there would be a $49.00 labor and $70.00 parts charge to fix it...total $139.00 to fix a $139.00 rig. When will I ever learn to STAY OUT OF RADIO SHACK?

Great little rig! Time Owned: unknown months.
I've had one for about 6 months, and it works very well. Seems a little hot on TX audio. Works best as a base rig. I have used it mobile, but the engine racket is a little too loud. Would be nice to have CW and tones, but how much can you expect for $129.00. I am waiting to rig up a desk mic to use with it.

Schematic info Time Owned: unknown months.
I just got the service manual I ordered for the HTX-10. At first glance it looks like it's worth the 12 bucks. Not in color or anything but the schematic should be useable to add a tone board and do some mods. Just call Radio Shack at 800-241-8742 and ask for part number RSU# 12210282.

How can one complain for the money! Great little Time Owned: unknown months.
Just took mine out of the box, hooked it to my antenna (Home Qth) and first contact was LW9DAH with a 5x9+. And great audio report. I am going to put it in the car, and also in the RV for this summer. The receiver sounds very hot. I am going to check power out later. Did not notice xmt hang that others have reported. Hey Radio Shack.. how about a whole series. HTX 15, HTX-20, etc. Also I bet there will be a mod on the streets for CW very soon.

Schematic ?? Whats That? Time Owned: unknown months.
Pretty good little radio many many DX contacts on
this little radio. No problems with this one except
the cw deal.Have not checked the power output.
One undocumented feature,With the radio in FM mode
push Func 4(lcr), this puts you in RPT mode?
The radio runs a ctcss tone in this mode but not
sure what it is...Come on Radio Shack what kind of
manual is that?Anybody got a schematic???

Excellent Value Time Owned: unknown months.
Hard to go wrong with the HTX-10, unless you get a defective unit. I purchased one today and strung a temporary dipole 8 feet off the ground in the garage which adjoins my computer room. My first two contacts as the band was fading were in Argentina and Labrador. I do not have the transmit hang that others reported. I'm happy to read from an earlier poster that the clarifier also changes the transmit frequency. This was not apparent in the skimpy manual. I confirmed this on my shortwave radio.

There are five memories, and the selected mode (AM, FM, etc) is stored with each memory. Unfortunately, the "step" is not, so it's necessary to change this setting when, for example, switching from FM to SSB. This is really my only complaint for a rig that costs $139.

Some folks have complained about the small, lightweight mike. I prefer it to the larger ones.

All in all, I'm very pleased. I read the specs before I made the purchase, and I have no intention of whining about what might be missing from this unit.

Nice Rig For a Few Bucks Time Owned: unknown months.
I just passed my code test a few days
ago.Since I was a good boy and got the
words all right I decided to reward myself with a HTX10.The closest one
was a 45 minute drive from here and they had to get it from a Radio Shack up North!!! Anyway I hooked it up in
the parkig lot, turned it on and Wow!!
Stations from all over Europe were
coming in.I talked to Italy on the
way home less than 5 minutes after
hooking it up!!!! It has a pretty
good sound to it but wish the spaker
was top side.It tunes in SSB very well
and I did get a 57 from Italy on 25watts.For the price you cant beat it
....That is if you can find one!!!

CW POSSIBILTY Time Owned: unknown months.
After bringing my new HTX10 in the shack and working several countries using a cutdown CB groundplane, I was curious if it could be used for CW. By placing the microphone close to a code oscilator speaker adjusted for 800 HZ, I had another station listen. He said that it sounded just as good as any other CW signal. Without VOX, it will be more difficult to convert it for semi breakin use with an internal tone osc, but anything can be done. Hurry up Radio Shack with that HTX6 while the sunspots are numerous.
