"FM Hang" - solved Time Owned: unknown months.
The "FM Hang" problem appears to caused by RF getting into the radio through the mic cord. Two possible solutions - 1. Put a snap-on ferrite choke on the mic cord or 2. install bypass capacitors from each mic connection to ground inside the radio. Not wanting the choke hanging on the mic cord, I installed capacitors - there is plenty of room around the connector if you use a small tip soldering iron.

My HTX-10 also intermittently hangs on when transmitting on FM. Sometimes it will last for a couple of seconds, other times I have to turn the power off & back on. W0BR@arrl.net

Great rig for beginners and old timers alike. Time Owned: unknown months.
Like everyone else, I had to search to get mine.
Luckily, I found a helpful sales associate who
got one from a store in central Nebraska.
Mine does have one problem, when the noise
blanker is activated, the tuning knob and all
front panel buttons cease to function. Plus, I
don't think the blanker is that effective. I do
have another one coming.
I find the front end to be abit wide, but have not
noticed any overloading problems. Has great
audio, both tx and rx. Plenty of drive for external
speakers. I have not used it much on fm, so can't comment on the tx delay. The manual is
of little use, vague in all areas. A schematic
would be nice, especially to reduce the volume
of that beep.
Bottom line: RS will sell alot of these, best rig
for the money, superior to any converted cb and
much better design than the Unidens.
Enjoy...Robb

HTX-10 A WINNER Time Owned: unknown months.
I LIKE TO PLAY WITH NEW STUFF...HAD ONE FOR TWO DAYS NOW, WORKED THE WORLD WITH A VERTICAL. DON'T LIKE THE CLARIFYER, AND KNOBS NEED A WHITE LINE FOR EASE OF USE. MINE SHOWS 70 WATTS OUT SSB AND 30 EVERYWHERE ELSE. REPORTS ARE 5/9 OUTSTANDING AUDIO...SO WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED FOR 129.00??

Great Price for getting started in DX Time Owned: unknown months.
The HTX-10 from Radio Shack is my first HF radio so I can not compare it to others on the market. My first contact was to Belgium, the next was England. This is with a home brew dipole antenna that is about 15 ft off the ground.

I did have a hard time finding one in the stores and ended up ordering it for $139.95 including the shipping. The price was right and has let me experience DX.

The only complaint I have is that the all black knobs need some white lines on them to help indicate amount of rotation. To solve this, I used some white correction fluid for typists.

Talked to Belarus, But backlight isn't blue. Time Owned: unknown months.
I must admit: when I got it home and first turned it on, I was disappointed. All the literature shows blue backlighting for the display. Mine is amber. Howevever, I did eventually pick up the mic, and very easily got into Croatia. Twenty minutes later France responded. Once installed mobile with a cut-down Wilson 500 antenna, I pointed my van east and was 57 into Belarus. Power output is about twice what the box says. I'll trade a blue dislay for an amber display with 3dB more power any time.

Can't be beat for the price Time Owned: unknown months.
I purchased my HTX-10 on sale for $139.00. The stores all say they are hard to find, and had to go to two before found one.
With 8 ft modified cb ground plane, stations in Europe, South America, USA and Africa were worked with reports ranging from s5 to 9.
I am impressed with the AM capability of this rig and worked several stations on this mode.
FM mode has off-sets for repeater stations, and stations all over the south west were worked via a repeater in Arizona.
The only feature I wish were included was a key jack to work cw. No doubt this can be accomplished by the individual, and I will post notes on how to if and when I determine how to.
The receiver in my unit is extremely sensitive; signals that I have trouble copying on my main rig were easy to copy on the HTX-10.
Radio Shack has a winner in this one, now if only they would do the same for six meters.

update concerning Fine Tune (clarifier) Time Owned: unknown months.
I did not put this in the previous review, but the Fine Tune (clarifier) DOES indeed move the transmit as well as receive. The documentation does not specify that this is the case (probably just assumed one would understand this) but it is good to know that this is in fact how it works. I tested this with a friend of mine last night just to be sure. :-)

I recently purchased the new Amateur Radio product by Radio Shack: the HTX-10 transceiver for 10m. It covers the entire band and all modes except for CW (though you can receive CW on SSB with a little fine tuning). It runs 25wts in SSB & FM modes and 7wts in AM mode. The front panel is well lighted and is easy to use, very intuitive. Up and Down scan buttons are convienently placed on the top of the microphone and the PTT button has a good feel. The receive is nice and sensitive and I have had good reports on my signals. The best part is the price. At $149.00 you it can't be beat for its features and performance. If you are looking for a 10m rig for mobile or base, I would sure urge you to consider this one! :-)
