Nice Paddle/Keyer Package Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is the basic Iambic Key made by Dirk Fischer, DK2FD. I found his products while surfing the internet. It´s my third key besides the superb Schurr Profi 2 and the compact Mini-Paddle by Palm Radio.
It comes in a beautiful aluminium case with speed (8 to 80 wpm) and weight (1.3 up to 1:5) controls on the front and a tune key on top. With the coding switch on the back you can disable the dot or dash memory (iambic a or b, just what you prefer), disable the sidetone, choose reverse paddles, do a reset (if necessary) or cut off the batteries. After five minutes the electronic switches to sleep-mode to save power. A set of batteries is suggested to last up to 1000 hours. A jack for another key is also provided.

The paddle unit is a solid construction, no flimsy stuff that goes own ways. The concept reminds of the Schurr keys but is not in that class. Adjusting contacts and tension is a bit tricky but once set, it fits. The paddles deliver a good feeling but as they are on the outside of the levers you can´t narrow the space between them. If you are able to work on plexiglass you might abrade and polish the paddles for a different feel. The DFM series has been available with Schurr high precision keys but I don´t know if this is still the case.

All in all a nice key for a nice price.
Take a look at Dirk´s page and check out de deluxe versions DFM-2 and DFM-3 (keyers without paddles also) and other very interesting things.
