Don't see the problems Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The radio is a new purchase, but it has already traveled over a thousand miles through several large cities and I'm very pleased. I've owned a number of rigs over the years and while this radio is not immune to intermod, it's better than some others I've owned. Considering the sensitivity of the receiver, it does a good job of handling everyting except very strong signals. People who are complaining obviously didn't do their homework. If you have a need to be able to copy transmissions outside the ham bands you'll find the rig quite capable. One suggestion is to get an external speaker for the vechicle, the built in is ok, but a good external speaker makes it much better to listen to. I plan to do a follow up later but for now I consider it a good investment.

Both Good and Bad Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Strong points: excellent display, easy-to-use, dual receive, transmitter output good, small head size for easy mobile installation and excellent Mic design and usability.

Weak points: disastrous intermod problem. OK in rural areas but in big cities almost useless. There must have been some design compromises to accomplish wideband receive and price. What a shame! This could be a good radio.

Wasted $370 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Wish I'd found more reviews on this rig before I bought it. I live in the sticks and i'm bothered by a police transmitter 15 miles away. The intermod makes this radio nearly unusable,, shame on you ICOM ! It has a lot of great features and the audio quality is just fine, but what good is it if you can't us the receiver end of the radio. I have a radio shack 242 that has less intermod.

No..! .NO Good. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Oh this rig i'm sure would be good if you lived in the desert. It suffers extreme intermod. very poor rejection ,if any. The average quality of the tx audio can be overlooked somewhat as it is designed as a mobile rig, however still very poor for ICOM. Its not all bad.fair receiver.. i hear these are notorious for blowing their outputs? And also,in my mind, not neally adequate heatsinking and/or heat dissipation properties given the output power..a small fan sure... but a long tx on high power sure heats that small case.. just terrible!... other than that.. works OK!! 73's

NOT that bad! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
while i have the intermod issue, it's not as bad for me as it sounds like it's been for others
i do have to say, as a relatively new ham, the manual maybe isn't as idiot-proof as it could be.

Good radio with crappy intermod rejection Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
What more can I say. I like every thing about this radio except that the intermod/imaging that you hear makes the radio unusable. bought a 2meter
intermod filter,Par and it helped. I DO NOT believe that anyone should have to spend money on filters that should be IN THE RADIO!!.
This is the price that all hams pay for wide band receive in all radios. de N2UID

Terrific radio with great functionality! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
By no means am I a “hard core” ham, but I’ll tell you one thing: This radio is awesome! I can’t believe all the negative reviews I’ve been reading regarding this unit. I have yet to replicate a single one of the problems discussed by eHam members. Audio quality is crystal clear (I’m using an external speaker); my transmission audio is excellent as well. I’ve gotten nothing but positive comments regarding the quality of transmission this radio puts out. Many people are surprised at the quality of my voice after hearing others say audio levels are low when using this unit.

Anyway, I digress. This radio has terrific features, is very easy to use, etc… I could go on, but I don’t want to bore you. This radio is great and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a mobile radio. 5/5.

looking bad Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Know of 4 of them in our repeater group including mine. Well two have died due to bad finals including mine. Both within one month of buying. I have a Icom HF rig and 12 IC-2100H radios and was very happy with ICOM. Had several others convinced to buy one. Well not anymore as a 50% failure rate in our group does not fly very well.

Come on ICOM, don't do a Yaesu on us and deny all repeated failures and lousy parts. Make these great radios live up to your great reputation.

Good Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This radio has alot of bells and whistles...less Alpha Tagging. Radio is sold to be remotely mounted unless you buy the optional mounting bracket to put the control head on the transiver. Radio is pretty easy to get around once you get use to its functions. I really like the cross-band repeat option, but the audio level really drops during this function and you find yourself having to raise your voice to get an exceptable audio level out. Yes, the audio is not the greatest, even with the audio level set to "High" I have to raise my voice more compared to my IC-2100H that was previously installed in my truck. One nice thing is my alternator whine (1998 GMC truck) has vanished after unplugging the IC-2100 and plugging in the 2720. This radio is wide band receive and as such, is suspetable to intermode. I live only 1 mile from 2 TV transmitting towers, 2 radio towers and 1 pager tower. I get burps and chirps in the 150 mhz band and seem to pick up a a audio harmonic from one of the TV stations. The radio has a built in Attenuator that I use to attenuate the intermod. All in all, nice radio, but would like to see Alpha Tagging and the intermod issue resolved. Would have given the rig a 5, but the intermod problem and low audio drops this nice rig down a notch. If your looking for a 2m-70cm rig and want crossband repeat, weather alert and wide receive.....This is your rig!
