Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
These are excellent headphones, and they look and sound sound as good as the day I purchased them at least 20 years ago. They are lightweight, but durable, with excellent, natural sound reproduction. Nice tonal balance with no harsh high, nor booming low, frequencies. They are equally pleasing when used with my transceiver as they are with my stereo system.

These cans have a semi-opem air design which reduces, but does not completely block ambient noise in the shack. Therefore, they reduce annoying cooling fan noise, but do not produce that heady, dull, finger-in-the-ear sensation other headphones give when you speak. Thus, everything sounds quite normal, and natural; but with reduced ambient noise - resulting in a very good balance between noise isolation and natural sound. These cans are excellent at reproducing CW tones.

The ear muffs comfortably surround, and do not pinch or press upon the ears. You can wear these headphones all day without fatigue or discomfort. (Note: these headphones might be a little loose if the operator has a really small head....)

Just MY take, anyway. Good DX to all!

Unbelievable! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After reading all the the glowing reports I wondered how any earphones could be all that great, but I went ahead and ordered the K240. I will now say that in over 72 years I have never heard such unbelievably beautiful audio come out of any receiver.

Best since 1979 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I tested every headphone in my price range back in 1979 and bought the K240's. Since then I have tried occasionally to improve on them with the wild misconception that technology must have moved on. Well, maybe technology has but I think AKG know a good thing have stuck with a basic design that 'works'. I use them for at least 4 hours a day and every day since '79. Is this a record? I have tried HD435's but not in the same league as the K240's. HD280 pro is the closest but a closed headphone will never sound as good as open.
Highly recommended for their open natural sound, detail, clear treble and a bass that is effective without being too resonant.

Studio Version Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I wanted to add that there are two different versions of the K240 model. There is the "Monitor" and the "Studio" versions. The difference is the Monitor has a 600 ohm input impedance, while the Studio has a 55 ohm impedance and is $10 more. Beyond that the units are identical. I got the Monitor version initially. I found that I had to turn the AF up in order to hear well. Then if I unplugged the headphones the AF was set too high and blasting. So I exchanged them for the Studio model, and I must say, that made a huge difference. The 55 ohm impedance is almost a perfect match to my rig's speaker.

None better Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using a pair of AKG K240 Studio headphones for over 2 years and find them to be the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried. They are light and the ear pieces cup your ears just enough to keep out ambient noise, but don't smash your ears into the side of your head. After hours of wear, you really can't tell you have them on. The dynamic range and sound reproduction is superb. Yes, they are full range, but they reproduce the human voice and the frequency range for CW (800-2K Hz) perfectly which is what I want in a pair of communication headphones.

I picked these because I used to use them back in the days when I did a little studio engineering in E. Tennessee and they were really great back then too. I don't regret my decision one bit.

They are a little expensive, but you can pick them up for less than $100 on the web.

I highly recommend them for any and all audio applications.

akg240s Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had my akg 240s for over 20 years. They still are far and away the best sounding headsets ever. Only have one problem - the plastic webbing that rests on your head has broken in many places. Can anyone tell me how to get this repaired? I hate to throw these out for a piece of plastic.

Thanks

HiFi listening, ragchewing, or DX contest Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My "good old" AKG K240 headphones simply cannot be beat (ok, maybe by the Studio Monitor AKG 240's:). It's amazing what signals you can pick out of the noise with them. And they're also the most comfortable headphones I have ever used. Great value at a great price!

The only headphones I use. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using AKG-K240 headphones for years now and
they are the only ones I use. I have mounted a Heil boom mike
to them and I use them on SSB and CW. They sound good,
cover my ear to help block out the shack noise and I can
wear them for entire contest weekend.

They also sound VERY good - I find that having the best sounding
headphones I can find works best for me - I want to hear everything
from my radio.

During the most recent ARRL DX contest I operated from a DX location.
My bags (includign the one with my AKG-K240 headphones) did not
show up until halfway through the weekend. I was using the station
owners Heil Pro-Set. When I swapped out the headphones I was
amazed at how bad the Pro-Set sounded. Next time the AKG's
and the voice keyer will be in my carry on bag.
