Great rotor Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this rotor for over a year and it is so much better than the CDE/Hygain junk. I love the fact that it doesn't have a brake that you have to jack with. I think its better to let the rotor dissapate some of the stress of the windload, you just have to keep an eye on the control box in heavy winds so you can point your array into the wind.

Early Death Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have an 8 element log periodic with a 30 foot boom that is free wheeling tonight on the top of my tower. The rotor was rated for 23 sqft of wind load, but my 15 sqft M2 antenna and a 35 knot wind has trashed a 15 month old rotor. No, I am not impressed. Well I did love the controller. I'm really not looking forward to going up there and replacing it. The next one will not be a Yaesu.

Turns in heavy wind Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Used in-tower with a rubber shock absorber between mast and rotor (from a truck power transfer shaft) to turn 3 stacked 10/15/20 meter 5-el log-yagis: break could not stop the top bell portion turning in a heavy wind, had to repair three times distorted shaft that controls end-stop switches as bell turned beyond stop limits.
Replaced with 2800SDX that now turns 6-m boom 144, 2-el XM204 7-MHz widespaced beam, A3WS 3-el for 10-18-24 MHz and 5-el 14 MHz log-yagi on 10-meter heavy-duty boom without any problems !

Surprised me. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had to give this a 5 because I did not think it would last as long as it did. I turned a 2 el 40m yagi and a 5 el 20m Hy-gain (a 402CD and 205BAS) at 90 feet for 6 years with this rotor. I just took it down because it was freewheeling and I could tell it was toast. I opened up the case and it was totaled. But, with the winds we get on the plains of Montana, I never thought it would last this long! I babied it and always turned at the slowest speed.

Great Value/Great Product Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've owned my Yaesu 1000SDX for over 2 years, and it has functioned without a problem in this arctic environment where it sees wind chills of -100 F and wind gusts of up to 125 mph (my weather recorder stops there!) I use the Hazer system on a 40 foot Rohn tower overlooking the Gulf of Alaska at 1200 feet....a great combination.

A great companion accessory is the IdiomPress RotorCard, which completely automates the system when used with DX4WIN or other software logging programs which provide this feature.

Looks Good Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The rotor is very nice but you must use the tower absorber joint. The plate will take up for misalignment. I tried to save money and not use it but when I would turn the rotor I would hear it binding. It will also take up some of the load on the rotor. Unlike the Hy-Gain the 1000 has no play to take up for the misalignment. I have 2-18XXX and 432-9WL at 76 feet. So far, no problems. I have seen 65 mph wind, and it has been up for 5 months.

Love em Time Owned: unknown months.
I use a number of these at my station. One of them has been turning my 5 el 20m Yagi (42' boom) for 2 1/2 years. This is mounted on a 70' Hazer Aluminum tower which flexes quite a bit, and probably takes a lot of the stress off the rotor. The only problem I have had was with one turning a 5 el 20m yagi (46' boom) which shattered the upper case and gear housing after about 3 months. I replaced it with a G2800 and found that the rotor plate was significantly out of level. I believe this is what stressed and caused the failure of the G1000SDX. I particulary like the display and 450 degree rotation capability. I recently changed all the
rotors to end stop on South so that I could rotate through north for JA/EUR openings. Much better! I got excellent service from Yaesu on replacement parts for the broken rotor, and it is now back in service.

I Love the Control Box! Time Owned: unknown months.
I'm turning a stack of 5 element 10's and another one turns a 5 element 15M on a 36' boom. Neither has failed in 3.5 years. The control box is great. The needle comes off so that you can position it where the antenna is pointing. It also has point and click positioning which is great during a contest. Two things I don't like... 1) The control box is not flat on top. That means no stacking. 2) The clamps that hold the mast are made of aluminum. I have heard of others snapping these plates. I have not had that problem.
