Description:
PicCon is a PIC microcontroller based radio controller designed for hidden transmitter hunting. When combined with a radio transmitter, it will produce tone sequences and Morse code messages at user-programmed times. It is completely field programmable via DTMF tones, utilizes EEPROM for all programmed options so they are remembered when power is removed, and is quite compact.

The PicCon controler works as advertised...lots of fun watching the hunters run around looking for the fox.

Good product - easy to build and use kit. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I built the PicCon remote transmitter controller kit. Took me a couple of hours, as I am new at this and I move slowly to avoid mistakes. The kit went together easily, exactly as described in clear, concise and easily understood instructions. Parts are small, on a small circuit board, so get your glasses on and keep a steady hand. But it will go together easily enough.

Immediately upon completing the kit, I plugged it in using the pre-built cable I purchased with the controller kit.

IT WORKS ! Right away. Just as expected. And for a new ham who is still rather new at building kits, this is a good thing.

So... inexpensive, useful, and fun to build and use - works as promised. I am having fun with this.

The instructions are straight forward and help was an email away. All email questions were answered within 24 hours. The setup is straight forward. This was my first "kit" project. If I can do it, anyone can. I cant wait to have our clubs first fox hunt this spring with the PicCon.

We built one last November to start running monthly fox hunts in our area. It's worked great for the five foxhunts since. The controller uses the same interface cables as the Tiny Track APRS unit, so could actually use your APRS HT as the fox to get started.

The controller, a seven AH 12V gelcel and an old Yaesu FT-23R HT head fit easily in a 30 caliber ammo can for our foxbox. The controller and the HT get their power from the gelcell using Anderson Powerpole connectors. A BNC bulk head connector on the side for the antenna and and eyebolt through the latch for chaining it to a tree complete the set-up.

It's become a popular monthly activity for the club. Build the foxbox, start simple and have folks try to find it with just their HT's and body shielding. A side benefit is that a club with a lot of Df'ers rarely gets it's repeater jammed!

I have had mine for about 5 years and gone thru 6-7 9 volt batteries. I like the programmable delay feature which allows one to hide the "fox" the day before the event! Sneaky!

EXCELLENT. Easy to put together and if you connect it to an external mic. cord you can plug it easily into an HT and run it through the plug-in mic. jack. I've been using mine for close to two years now and it works perfect.

Enough said.

Excellent ARDF controller Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a great ARDF foxhunt controller. It is programmable by DTMF tones, which makes it easy to program from most HTs. Even if you plan to use it with a dedicated transmitter instead of a transceiver, you can use many HTs to generate the DTMF tones and use a simple cable to program the controller. It is flexible enough to generate MCW for VHF HTs, and to generate straight CW keying for an 80 meter transmitter.
