Solid and gr8 value Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I needed a 2m-only rig that would not mind extended TX, such as during club news bulletins. (My very trusty 706MkIIG is just not very happy during long 2m overs.)

I get good audio reports, the small Yaesu has a big fat cast heatsink and is solid and well-built. Receive audio is crisp, display is great (huge LCD figures) and it copes admirably with hard work (average room ambient temperatures often around 30 degrees Celsius)

For the money, I find it hard to beat.

Horrible Audio, Would NOT Recommend! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had one of these in the past, and this was a problem I noticed a few had with this rig on audio, It sounds real pinched up, and not clear, People complained left and right about my pinched up sounding transmissions, along with being "Muffled" sometimes. Other than that, its a alright rig I suppose.

it still works Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had this radio for nearly 4 years now and have had no troubles yet. The audio is nice and loud... I have it turned up and I can hear it in and out of the house(with a window open) I havn't turned that volume over half yet. Overall it works great, it doesn't get overly hot and I keep it on most of the time. I rarely have the display light on, but when I do it sure lights up the room. I usually don't need my lamp on if I have it on high. I do have some low audio reports, however I am a soft speaker.

Great! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Looks like people here have mixed reviews on this radio. Ive had it for over 2 years and it has stayed on the whole time. It is great radio and puts out 65 watts! I can hook it up to my interface and do echolink for days at a time. It does get a little hot, only when you use it at 65w.

Don't waste your money Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought it to replace a FT-2400 that was from the 1993 era, had nothing but problems, Yaesu was no help, I could have almost purchased another radio for the shipping cost back and forth. Finally sold it for a subsantial loss and still have the FT-2400 and its working fine. Seem to me (IMHO) Yaesu vhf-uhf equipment has taken a big step down since they bought out Vertex Standard. I have not purchased any new Yaesu stuff since and don't plan on it. 73 Pat

Great 1st rig! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Great 1st radio!! For just a little more than an HT you get so much more. Highly recommended for a 1st rig. 65 watt output and huge heatsink with no fan. Used it in the car and at home.

nice radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
i bought this radio a few months ago, it has served me well,{no complaints}. i use it for a base setup. i rate the 2800 with a 4, for everything has room for improvement, and i find no fault in this product.

faulty craftmanship is one thing.
critical bashing is another.

Transmit audio quality problems Time Owned: more than 12 months.
O.K. so its built like a tank, but I received constant comliants of its audio quality (seems it has none)!!

While it is built solidly and no one can understand you what good is it? Had boughten 2 of these radios brand new and they were exactly the same poor audio even after the mic mods!

My ADI AR147 blew these radios away in audio quality, so I dumped them both back where I originally bought them from and received basically nothing for them in trade (they were like brand new still in the box shape)with the boxes manuals and everything just like they came of the shelf. Got only $120.00 for both (because of the audio issues I suppose can't give these things away) and bought an icom IC2200H. WHAT a difference like someone took a blanket off the mic!

Now that being said Yaseu makes some other very decent quality radios this not being one of them however, so if you want a tank with crappy audio go ahead and buy one, but don't say I didn't WARN you!

Nice rig for the $$$ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this rig used for $125 shipped a couple of weeks ago for my truck. Works fine and the switchable power levels are a nice touch - don't need much to hit my repeaters. There are LOTS of menus and sub-menus and they are a pain to learn - I carry the manual with me. Spend the time to reprogram the buttons - it can save you a lot of grief when you're travelling. The one-button access to the WX channels are real handy when travelling. Running lower power will let me use this in my wife's car with power from a cig lighter socket, since she doesn't see the value in a permanent installation and we often use her car (convertible VW bug) to travel in. Negatives are inability to lock the frequency (I think - like I said, there are LOTS of menus!) and a huge amt of info displayed on the LCD. In general I would recommend this rig to anyone looking for a small, full-featured easy to install 2M radio that doesn't cost a fortune.
