Second FT-2800M,good rig. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought second FT-2800M for mobile and it works great. This is very simple 2m rig.Big display and can adjust backlight.Menu is very easy for all.Mic audio are little too sharp but I think it´s a little plus for mobile working.

Solid Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought the rig for $150.00. Built like a tank. Nice and bright read-out. Sound is fine but an external speaker would help in the shack.
The plastic "legs" that come with the unit may raise the front face off the table but they don't grip the table like a rubber leg would. I glued a small rubber foot to each leg and to the back of the unit and then placed a small strip of Duct Tape on the table where the unit would rest and it sticks like glue. Nice when you grab the mic and the unit stays tight on the table.
The unit produces quite a bit of heat while on 65 watts and even though it has huge heat fins on the rear, I still feel the need to have air moving back there. My table has a small fan that blows left to right behind all the equipment and is out of the way. Yet the unit still gets mighty hot.
The programming learning curve is tough at first. After about 30 minutes of pushing the wrong buttons at the wrong time, everything worked just fine EXCEPT--- I can't program the PL Tones on any of the frequencies and have them stay stored while scanning. It works fine until scanning then the radio forgets the PL tone. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? The rig has great ears and so it picks up everything within 125 miles or there abouts. Any help would be very much appreciated.

My (3) Ft-2800's all work fine , and the clone is super idea -- BUT.. tried to get my FT100D serviced ( no PTT, no key etc ) and got stuck over $175 the FIRST time, and then screwed for ANOTHER $258+ for a second visit - SAME problem - they never bothered to check the data port when I TOLD them I was digital user ??? Still fighting this one but going to attorney this week .. I am fed up - I have spent over $10,ooo with these fools and still own most of it !!!!!

ok radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought one of these radios when they first came out. Nice rugged case large display and 65 watts out. I replaced my 2600m with this. I recently upgraded to the 7800 selling this radio. It was a solid performer but did have some issues. Two days after the warrentee was up the interal speaker quit, but worked fine with an external speaker. It had muffled audio ( a common yeasu problem) so I did the mike mod and cured that. I used it as a base gor a while but got sick of it changing channels on its on to the weather channel whenever I used my 220 rig. The antenna hookup was well protected against damage but made it hard for my fat fingers to connect and disconnect the coax. All and all a good but not great radio....would I buy one again? maybe.

Radio has Issues Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had this radio about a year and a half when it quit Transmitting without warning. Was using it as an APRS Digipeter for about two months on Mid Power. Light Duty. Found a pinhole in the Driver Transistor. Bought a new FT-7800 to replace it. Finally ordered Driver for it and that fixed the Transmit issue. Main complaint is RF from HF Rig gets into the Receiver on the 2800 and causes it to change Freqs to the WX Channels. Sometimes it returns to the original Freq., sometimes not. This means turning off the 2800 when running HF rig at home.

Deviation problems Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My finace owns this rig and she always sounds low. There is NO WAY to turn up the deviation inside the radio!! I wish Yaesu would add a pot to be able to turn up the deviation!

Good deal for a new tech Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is my first radio. I was looking for a cheap radio to just get on the air with as soon as I got my tech license(almost a year ago). I would like more power options for this now since 65 to 25 is a huge drop but I'm not complaining too much, definitely easy enough to use with out being too much for a beginner. I highly recommend this if you're looking for a meat and potatoes radio with few bells.

For the Money is Great ! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have two of these. One in the XYL's ( WA6SUE ) office and one I just purchased. What prompted me to buy another is the trouble free operation we have experienced with the XYL's radio in the last year and half. Her radio is set at the low power setting and accesses all local repeaters quite easily. I do not find anything wrong with the audio, transmit or receive. The menu's are bit tough at first, but once you get the hang of them, programming is really a snap. A believe there is a lemon in all brands and models, but our experience with the 2800M is nothing but good. For the money it's a great radio !

Excellent radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used mine in many different cars as a temporary rig, and it performed beautifuly in every case. When not in use, it is stored in a tool box where it get tossed around alot, and it is still working perfectly.

I love how straight forward the menu is, I only wish it had a remote head as I am now trying to set up a more long term arrangement in my car.

Alot of radio for a little price.

Best Reciever I have ever seen. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This was my first mobile tranciever and now that I have bought other radios I have truly come to realize the superior nature of the FT-2800's reciever. This radio has a much more sensitive reciever on weak signals. I enjoy working simplex on 2meters and can use this in many areas that I am unable with Kenwood radios. The 65 Watt output is excellent for reaching out to distant repeaters and working simplex.

Also this radio is extremely easy to MOD for use on Business bands. Also has simple software mod for modifying TX Output power.

Audio is excellent, can turn this radio up load enough to hear over diesel engines with no problem. NO EXTERNAL SPEAKER NEEDED HERE.
