good solid radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The FT-2800, not to bad a radio has 65 watts, great features, very well constructed, excellent TX, Ease of use OK. The only main complaint I had with this radio is that the receiver was way too wide and let every thing in. I installed an excellent antenna the Diamond 510 2m/70cm which is an excellent antenna but unfortunately it did to good a job; the 2800 just let every thing in like pagers. I couldnt use the radio above 146.00, so had to get rid of the radio. I now use the FT-897 and that seems not to be affected by the pagers at all. I think manufactures should forget the extra receive range and focus on the specific band at hand like 144.000 to 148.000 if people want general receiver out of band buy a scanner. Over all impression of the 2800 great TX, great features, ok ease of use, very well constructed. Only major complaint receiver is wide as a barn door.

no problems Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
works for me, no problems. Yup it gets hot on long key downs, but isn't that what a heat sink is for?
I did the mod, took the little disk out of the mic, it helped the audio but it didn't work wonders. The audio isn't muddy now.
Don't like the mic plug, thought it was a radio and not a telephone and for guy with big hands getting to the coax connector is a pain.
I have read others have had problems with jumping to the WX mode and not being able to get out of it. Its not in the book but the WX mode auto seeks the WX channels, don't scan them that is what locks you in, stop it from scanning and it will come out of WX mode.
The manual could be better.
All in all I find it to be a good radio.

OK for the $$ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just purchased this radio with in the past month. I found the receivers squelch would open even on noise which is a bit of a pain. On transmit on any power level other than HIGH, the radio emits a wide band noise when can be heard on HF radio and FM broadcast Band. I did not have this problem with the FT-2600M.This does not appears to be as bad when in HIGH power setting. Speaking of high power setting, I programmed the memories with LOW1 setting. Transmit audio was reported to be of a nasal quality and low in deviation. I am not sure why this is as compared to the FT-2600M. This radio does not allow the power setting to be changed from what was programmed on the fly so it would be remembered in the channel memory, but rather from the LOW button. Case in point, the FT-2600M did allow this feature. I also found the front end was not as tight as compared to a FT-2600M for intermod. Otherwise a good radio for the $$$.

FT-2800M Buyer beware!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this radio for just over a year. It started acting up about two months ago. When the mike is unkeyed, the radio either changes to the weather channel #1 (Depressing the WX button gets it back to memory), the screen goes bland except for a single number on the left side or if operating out of memory in duplex mode, will go back to simplex mode and get completely out of memory mode. Sorry Yeasu, but this radio sucks!!!!!!

I know of two others that exhibit the same problem and their owners are very displeased with this model. I was told Yeasu is aware of the problem and has a fix for it but no one seems to know what it is. This is beginning to look like a very good case for a class action lawsuit due to Yeasu selling a known bad product.

If you've had these problems or know of a fix, please let us all know what it is, otherwise, mine and a whole lot more are headed for the junk pile. It's not even ebay material!!!!

Beware of this model!!!!

Radio is Terrible Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Well folks, After having all the weather alert problems my radio went bad. The Finals in the radio were fried and had to replaced then all the long the radio had standard swr 1.5 rating had new larsen 2m antenna and meter everything checked out ok. Also i noticed the radio would easy overheat on higher power. So after the finals went I shipped it to Yaesu and it took me 2 months to get it back even after i gotten it back it still did not act right or the receive. So I rated this radio a Zero and would not recommend it to anyone. So I took the radio out of my vechile and put it back in the box and used it as door stop.

Don't buy this Rig Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought this radio 9/25/04 during a local Yaesu days event. I used it the following week for a set, worked fine. The following week I had reports of bad almost unreadable transmit sound. I took it back to the dealer I bought from he kept it for 5 weeks said he couldn't figure it out and gave it back to me. I am now told that it is impossible to understand me when I transmit. Now it is on it's way back to Yaesu and I am again without a radio. Should have stuck with Kenwood. No more Yaesu's and no more buying from this dealer.
