Piece of junk Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This radio has been nothing but trouble. From broken microphones to failure to transmit. I actually was suckered into buying a 2nd of the same type in hopes that I just got a lemon the first time. NOT, an ET friend of mine says that the soldering on the main board of the 2800 is so poor that he was surprised that it worked at all! Never again.

Great radio!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got the radio today. It works fine. Now I am an HF kinda guy but to work simplex with my buddies on a really good vertical it just fine. I guess if you are a serious FM type you might find this radio a little to simple and easy to operate. But for the casual ham I dont think you cant beat it. It will sit on the desk until it dies. And at the price I paid for it. I would just get another one in that price range.
My audio reports have been good. Great little radio..

Good Radio Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
For what it is, I really can't fault it. Works great, price is right, what more can you ask for. If all you need is 2 meter FM you'll be hard pressed to find a better radio then this.

Solid radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought this radio for my shack in the mountains, no issues, loud audio and clear and clean signel. prices and performance was the key in the buying.

great radios Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have 2, 3/05 and 8/05. 4 years and no problems. use one mobile and the other base. The mobile is in a work truck that goes mostly 4 x 4 ground. Super tough radios.

Just doesn't last long enough Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought this 2800 about 2 yrs ago from hamcity.com when it was on sale for 115.00. I have used this unit as both a mobile and base station. Recently I put it in my van so I could talk with my wife on low power simplex. During our trip, I was able to talk with her most of the trip then the radio for no reason just stopped transmitting. After doing some checking, I found the finals were bad. I was going to send it back to Yaesu for repairs but they wanted $90.00 an hour for labor not counting parts. I now own a new Kenwood..

Love it!!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I love this radio, Had it over a year now and really NO complaints at all.
Sound is great, power is great, mic is great..
And CHEAP!

The only complaint I have is that the freq knob is turned WAY too easily!
But I just simply locked out the freq knob and use the mic for moving through mems or freqs.
And if I really plan on doing alot of tuning, then I will just unlock it till I'm done and then relock it...
No big deal at all.

I love this radio, and if I ever need another 2M rig I would buy this one again FOR SURE!

Another Yaesu Bites The Dust Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well I knew better, but I was 'taken in' by the great price. Finding a 65 watt, 2 meter radio for only $129 who could resist? I've been using a FT-2800 on my EchoLink node, KB9TMP-L #7492. For a year everything was fine until………….. it stopped dead in the middle of an ID announcement. When I made it home I found that the final transistor had left the building. I have checked the antenna and feedline and both are OK. This is now the third Yaesu radio that I've owned that has quit transmitting. (FT-8100 & FT-60 before this one) You would think I'd have learned by now. Lucky for me I had another FT-2800 so I could get the link back on the air. (How long is anyone’s guess!) I was considering buying an FT-817nd for QRP work but that sure isn’t going to happen now. I wondered why I keep seeing so many Yaesu radios for auction of 'FeeBay', now I guess I know. There will soon be another 'tech special' for auction! If I ever own another Yaesu radio of any kind I need to have myself committed! I'll never buy another Yaesu!!!!
